Eh 2,000lbs payload is nothing for these trucks. My 2015 ram 2500 megacab says it’s only good for one about 1700 pounds or maybe it was 1650… Anyways I have at least 200 pounds of permanently attached mods to my truck so that’s now only 1500 lbs payload… lol I’ve had at least 2000 to 2300 pounds in the bed so several hundred pounds over my payload capacity and truck is perfectly fine. I have even had at least 3000 pounds combined between tongue weight and weight in the bed of my three-quarter ton Megacab.

The high output Cummins with the ASIN transmission is an option even on the 3500, , you can only get it on the 3500 but as an option , so, on the 2500 you can only get the standard Cummins, with the 3500 you can choose the standard Cummins for roughly $9000 more than Gas models or the high output Cummins for roughly $12,000 more then the gas model,
so, when you are looking to buy a 1 ton ram, it doesn't necessarily mean that it has that high output Cummins in it

#8: Also a bit misleading. See my comment on #10.
#3: CCLB trucks offer an optional 50 gallon fuel tank.
#2: Aux Trailer is an option on any trim level, not included unless the XFQ sales code is used. 2022 changes options up a bit with the addition of a digital tow mode camera that displays in the rearview mirror as well as an available 360° trailer system that will automatically add the wiring for the cameras.

i have the same truck leveled on 35's with the stock wheels and i average 16ish in the city and about 19-20 on the hwy here in south Louisiana. I will say though at 2K miles the check engine light came on and showed something with the trans valve body. it drove fine but brought it in and 2 months later I got it back. Apparently they had a recall and i was one of the lucky ones and naturally with dealers not being able to get parts they just replaced the whole trans that had different part number. The dealer told me they made updates to the one that was installed and changes made to the valve body . Other than that what nobody talks about is the factory HC 19 speaker sound system with the sub , this is the best sound system i have ever owned and i have owned all brands . My biggest comaint is: When not in tow haul, the trans always wants get to 6th gear as fast as possible and keep the RPM as low as possible....I'm assuming for emissions and fuel economy. Decent review. I drive a variety of 1 ton diesel trucks for work towing stock trailers mostly. The big three all make good trucks. My personal truck is a 21 Ram 3500 HO with the Aisan transmission.
Two points that Andre didn’t cover: The Cummins is a slow turning inline diesel that develops its torque early in its power band which makes it good for towing bad for the drag strip. The other point is that the exhaust brake on the Ram is far superior to Ford or GM. I have descended mountain passes with 20,000+ on the gooseneck and there is no pucker factor with the Ram.

The 1000 pound configuration needs a lot more heavy duty components and costs more while being much less user friendly The 3500 rides very rough and unless you are regularly towing loads that exceed the 2500 that is not a great choice.

With regards to whether someone should buy the Cummins or not, I also believe people need to be cognizant of whether their driving patterns will allow them to complete a regen cycle or not. If they are driving little, but their driving pattern allows for this, then that makes a difference. If their driving pattern does not allow for regen completion, they will be miserable, the truck will be miserable, and fuel economy will be horrific.

I owned pickups and crewcabs for decades but they were work vehicles. Always operating close to max GVW. Kept log books so able to track fuel consumption. Calculation I provide here is yearly average and includes warm up times and idling for long periods of time during winter. Gas models averaged 30L/100K with the diesels 19L/100K. At first I did not believe the figures and thought a few fillings had to be missed but the figures continued over the next 3 years. Got rid of the last gas vehicle in 1999 so data is definitely out of date. If you were to compare figures for a highway trip in the summer diesels still turned in better figures but definitely not the difference shown over a year. I have never been concerned what a vehicle can do on a highway run under the best of conditions, what I am interested in what does it cost to run that vehicle for a year.
In addition to the better fuel economy the crew appreciated the performance of the diesels.
So yes at time of trade I did not get the full cost of the motor back but my overall operating cost was cheaper. And when you are in business that is one of your main concerns.

What happens to the truck if you go 1 lb over what the sticker says ? jk, ( kind of.) If anyone around central / southern California went by that magical number, we'd all starve cause nothing would EVER get done on the farm. I'm guessing same way in the midwest. Use common sense when loading, or towing with your truck. It's obvious if it can or can't safely do it. Awesome video as always !

Compare the Chevy 5500 to the ram 5500 in towing and mpg!!

I love these damn trucks. I want the black one or the dark blue. Too far out of my price range though, I’ll stick with my Gladiator for now 😅

Only reason I could afford a 2020 Laramie 2500 was the nearby dealership loved my gladiator so much they offered me over original MSRP which I didn’t pay to begin with. They of course sold it 3 days later and made $10k just from wheels, tires, bumper. Apparently people want to buy things built, not build them

I hear you. I love my 2018 3500. Heaviest thing towed long distance so far was a little over 18k. No lack of power that's for sure.

If I don’t tow would it be pointless to get this? I just want a diesel they look cool and I like them lifted with big tires.

Pointless for sure and creating other problems like parking, turning radius, stiff ride…
