Christians, can you defend our Christmas tradition against claims that it’s pagan?
If you struggle, research the statue of Hippolytus and the dates on the chair of the statue. Early Christians believed that Christ was conceived on the same date as his crucifixion. Not a biblical belief but one that explains why December 25th was chosen for Christmas. Counting 9 months from the early Christian date for Easter(found on the chair of the statue) would bring you to the end of December. The Christian tradition of Christmas is not based on pagan celebrations. The dates on the Hippolytus statue predate the feast of Sol that many claim later became Christmas. It is more likely that the feast of Sol was an attempt by Roman Emperor Aurelian to co-op an emerging Christian celebration to maintain control over disruptive Christians.
Please research and help reclaim Christian traditions from anti-Christian rhetoric.
