    I'm digging on those tractors. There's nothing like an old tractor. And the idea of digging up dirt and burning it is about the coolest thing. I didn't know anything like that existed.

    Grand to see you're still cutting by hand, and on a small scale. Your great grandchildren will be burning peat from this bog, just as your great grandfather's did. It's another bond to the land your family farm, and your own history 👍

    Impressionnant la hauteur et la qualité de la tourbe à cet endroit ! Français et amoureux de l’Irlande et des Irlandais depuis au moins 40 ans, je suis fasciné par cette tache difficile, mais qui permet encore à certains Irlandais de se chauffer à moindre coût et aussi embaumer l’atmosphère par cette fumée bleue de tourbe ! Un pur bonheur de sentir encore ce parfum d’Irlande.

    • @a20dmd
      @a20dmd  Před 6 lety +1

      you are pretty much looking at the full depth in the video. The top 2 or 3 feet is younger, less dense, poorer quality material which will burn, but isn't really worth the effort to get it dried, so it is thrown back down to build up the standing area for the tractors. You can see the step in the bank. Turf/peat is a dirty fuel which produces quite a lot of ash and soot. My parents burn it regularly in their stove and fire. Their chimneys needs cleaned at least once per year. Wood and coal are better fuels, but we just do it to keep the tradition going.

      @justforever96 Před 6 lety

      Yes, clewarly they are ignorant farmers who are too stupid to think of a thing like that, and need you to explain it to them.
      A home fuel tank holds several hundred gallons of fuel, and a tractor like that can work all day off of a 10 gallon tank. It's not exactly hauling a deep plow at full throttle for hours on end. By your logic firewood is completely obsolete as a fuel because you could just spend the money you used on fuel and equipment on heating fuel. Except that people smarter than you have done the math and decided it pays. Even if it didn't there are people who would gladly pay the extra cost to enjoy a wood or peat fire once in a while, so you'd STILL have to go out and cut it. A fuel-oil fire is nothing like as warm and cozy and enjoyable as a woodfire, and I assume a peat fire. Never had occasion to try one around here. Our family does still heat with coal though.
