    For unusual colour fabrics get one large matching reel of tread and wind sewing machine bobbins for use as your needle threads, much cheaper than buying four cones which you may never use again.

    Hi Andrea, I have had my Janome 2000cpx for four years now and, like you, I purchased it sight unseen. This is a fabulous machine and you will love it more and more as you get to know it. One thing I would advise you to do (if you haven't already) is that if you are on Facebook, you join the Janome Coverstitch group. I have found this group invaluable: 'Janome Coverstitch Support with Michelle'sSewbiz'. Good luck with your beautiful Janome Coverpro!!

      That’s super advice , thank you so much . I love the machine a lot , it’s made such a difference to my jersey tops . I’ve never been a fan of the zig zag for the hem , I really love the finish of the coverstitch .. a great buy for sure

      @@Beyondthepinkdoor When you join the FB group, have a look at all the videos that Michelle has posted there in there...ask questions of the group......so many helpful, friendly people from all over the world. I am in Australia and as I read through the comments here on your CZcams video I found someone who I have had a chat with in the Janome FB group (your compatriot, Siobhan Hayes)!! Small world, Andrea. xo

    So glad you are enjoying your new machine ❤️❤️I have the same one purchased from a friend a few months back. Perfect stitches each and every time...... Until one day all I got was bunching, gathering, puckers etc etc. So re threaded, changed needles, cleaned and everything else I could think of!! Still the same!! Then discovered I hadn't snapped the free arm on properly, it was sticking up about an eighth of an inch which stopped the fabric feeding. One in a million chance but worth bearing in mind. Enjoy ❤️❤️

      @Beyondthepinkdoor  Před 4 lety +1

      Oh gosh it's always something simple isn't it !! That's unbelievable. I've recently discovered that my regular sewing machine will sew beautifully with the blind hemmer foot attached, but it skips, puckers etc with the normal utility foot attached . It's head scratching !!

    Had mine a little while now I love it! I haven't used it in a while as I've not sewed many knits lately. I bought the binder and not used it yet, but it does give a professional finish. A handy tip I learned apart from always give your hems a good press,I cut the hem depth I want after pressing then use a large hand tack all around the edge when turned over that tacking line becomes a middle guide ensuring the two end needless sew neatley over raw edge. It just gives a heater finish than trying to clip close to stitching risking catching your garment.. enjoy it ! X

    • @squeezylemon1
      @squeezylemon1 Před 4 lety +1

      The Stitch Sisters course shows you to position the middle needle on the edge of the hem turn up..... this means that the far left needle is outside the hem edge and the looper threads on the inside enclose the entire raw edge - means you don't have to trim the fabric! Even the shop where I bought mine didn't tell me to do that..... it gives a great finish!

    You may want to purchase a clear view foot. This foot helps you to see the stitches where you started. I always sew two or three stitches past the beginning stitches. Glad you are enjoying your new machine! I love the professional look it brings to the garment!

    It’s great isn’t it? You will find loads of uses for it I am certain! I very rarely use cones for my machine, I use regular bobbins most of the time. If you are making garments with multicolour prints you can then mix and match and have three different colours in the needles. Creates a great effect! 😍

    You can put a little strip of masking tape to the right of the needle plate to help to sew in a straight line. That is a tip I picked up. Congratulations on your new machine I am sure you will enjoy it.

  • @LindaRaeSchenk
    @LindaRaeSchenk Před 3 lety +2

    I noticed your threads are not wrapped in the aerial and those threads should wrap into the holes as they add a small amount of added tension to the threads. Also if you encounter skipped stitches you need to use the eLx705 for woven fabrics and the eLx505SUK for knits. If you encounter skipped stitches or while going over seams or difficulty going over seams you need to raise your pressure foot adjustment knob and it will alleviate any such problems. The looper is usually set one number lower than the threads and if you notice tunneling then you move the number down till the tunneling disappears. The only adjustment needed is the pressure foot knob. I basically keep all my settings at factory default and never have an ounce of trouble with using it. I find if you have problems it is usually a user error. Great machine. I bought the genuine binder but it is pricey and you can find the complete generic set on NGO sewing supply for $99 or make an offer. It is identical to the Genuine Binder set. Cutex and Sharp also sell the binders for the machine. Just make certain you get binders that look like genuine ones as some generic ones will not fit even though they claim they do. Avoid the type with the two screw bars and the top one has a center middle metal bar. Join the Janome Coverstitch group on FB.

    I have owned a Janome coverstitch for years. Hope you enjoy using it. Try watching The Last Stitch she goes into using it well and has written books on it. She has a vast knowledge of coverstitch machines all the ins and outs of everything . Her video's can help you when thing go wrong , and also about different feet that can be used on it. She owns the same Machine as yourself. and she is really good to watch and a good you tuber like yourself.

    I have the Janome for a number of years and I find it really easy to use. My Janome came (in Europe) with a bonus of a clear foot and an elastic one. On CZcams there are many tutorials for Janome coverpro as well as for coverstitching in general. Gail Yellen has some tips on using a coverstitch, another brand but the ideas remain, as well as Glenda with Surefit Designs and probably others. Sewing with the free arm is OK for neck and other long seams but not for sleeves unless they are not yet sewn. It is a matter of circumference. I made several polo shirts for my husband copying an older purchased one and sewed along the shoulder seams and the side seams and they look very professional. When my Bernina serger started breaking threads all the time I used the cover stitch to sew the seams. I cut the excess of fabric on the right side of the seam allowance and it worked! I mostly use 2 threads and the looper. I keep hand sewing thread empty bobbins and wind by hand a little of the colour thread I need on each of them instead of buying corresponding colour cones. I keep them stay on the spindles with the bobbin caps.

    Hi Andrea I have had a cover stitch machine for a while now and have had issues with it that’s for sure....skipped stitches seem to be the main problem for me but I have joined a cover stitch group on Facebook and am learning all kinds of things....one is never to “help” the fabric through by pulling on the back like we do in sewing occasionally, this will cause skipped stitches (I can attest to this). The group is Janome coverstitch support with Michelle’s Sewbiz......there are videos and all kinds of help on there from others owners of Janome cover stitch machines....your garments look really great....and I love your channel .

    I bought the superseeded Bernina L220 which is very quiet( 3 yrs ago). It is very complicated to thread the Looper thread from the back around to the side part. I think that is definitely a bonus for the Janome as well as the price being 200 less. But I already had the Expensive Binder for my sewing machine so it was necessary to buy the Bernina one to use on the coverstitch machine but requires an adaptor. I really love your Pink top, which I will get for summer. What thread cones do you buy in Ireland? I also use an iron-on stabiliser in the hem which is very fine and gives great result. It is almost impossible to get from USA but its very long amount and will last for long time. Called “SewKeys Easy” for knits. I also hope to save up for the coverstitch book by Johanna from The Last Stitch too. And get the Jeans book but it’s very pricey for making just one pair for me? .
