A lot of the background scenes in the beginning and in the pirate port were nods to the original PotC ride, before it was reworked to include Jack Sparrow. The guy in the barrelâ the dog with the keys, etc.

Johnny Depp was a HUGE star even before Pirates (even though he was more on "weird" (in a good way) artistic side) but Pirates multiplied his stardom by 100.
Not sure if it was before or after the pirates franchise began but I thought he did really well with his portrayal of an old school American gangster in Public Enemy
Dude was fucking uncatchable after the first pirates came out. Nobody was touching him at the box office except maybe Harry Potter

Scissorhands, Donnie Brasco, Mad Hatter, Sweeney Todd, Icabod Crane, From Hell. Johnny had many super characters before Captain Jack. He'll have many more after. He's starting to film Louie VX, and Robert Downey Jr has invited him to Sherlock 3.
I would say Pirates of the Caribbean made him popular amongst my generation. Johnny Depp is essentially my childhood.

One of my favorite things is that the Commodore recognized Will as the craftsman who made the sword
The reason to let jack go was because he had already made a deal with the commodore to oust Barbosa & his crew ( after Elizabeth is rescued by Dauntlas). When Jack's sentencing was starting, even the governor and commodore agreed with Elizabeth that this betrayal is wrong, but the commodore says he is bound by law.
So when Jack escapes, commodore is being honourable by holding his end of bargain by freeing the informant who gave him crew of black Pearl

At this time, Britain's best solders were fighting Bonny Prince Charlie. So the colonies seem to have gotten the most undertrained and most ill mannered of the lot. Much to the dismay of the officers. If it seems like the British solders don't know what they are doing, it's probably accurate.
Although I will also add that even the worse of the British solders was a thousand times more/better trained than the American militia/army both in the French Indian War and the first two or so years of the American Revolution.

@@OroborusFMA Yeah I remember the day I found out she was played by Zoe Saldana I was like wow I love her cause of Losers and a couple of other films(At the time I didnât realise she was in this til I rewatched it)
I found she was in Avatar and my mind was blown her people donât really give her her flowers she was literally in the 2 highest grossing movies in Cinema history if iâm not mistaken and I never her people mention her name probably the least mentioned actress specially in her gotg cast. Also the fact one sheâs blue and the other is green always brings a smile to my faceđ
Just FYI, every single pirates movie has a hidden Easter egg at the end of the credits that always leads into the next segment - if you feel like checking them out!

You guys definitely need to watch the next one Dead Man's Chest, it's arguably better then this one.
1:03:57 remember the brilliant move of Will and Elizabeth when they were fighting the three guys and they:
1. Stuck them together with a stick while they were skeletons, something the wouldn't have been able to do if they were outside of the moonlight
2. Put a grenade/bomb inside the middle guy while he was a skeleton and then the truly brilliant part: they pushed him out of the moonlight so he won't be able to pull the bomb out of him.
This is why Jack immediately moved to the moonlight after the stabbing and of course the blade wasn't inside him anymore
Whilst Barbosa was shot with a bullet while he was flesh and the bullet created a hole and was lodged inside of him. He was flesh. So when Will broke the curse the bullet was still in the now human and bleeding flesh
oh no honey this did not launch his career.... he was already huge before Pirates.
I think what launched his career was Nightmare on Elm Street back in the 80s.... it was Nicolas Cage who got him hooked up with a movie director

You guys omg all the coins from the chest must be put back with everyoneâs blood that took a coin. The curse would only lift once all the coins were put back the one coin and blood they were missing was Bootstraps. When they learn Will was Bootstraps son thatâs the same blood line so they wanted to use Wills blood and his dadâs coin to lift the curse. WhenJack took a coin he become cursed cause the curse was still active when Jack shot Barbosa Will used his blood on Jacks coin and his dadâs coin that lifted the curse right before Jack shot Barbosa. This is not hard to figure out
