First time watching Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales movie reaction

- Badd Medicine here and its Pirates of the Caribbean reaction time! A fun film from Johnny Depp and crew. Jack Sparrow with his last run (so far) was good. We understand why some didn't enjoy. It had its nitpicks, but overall a solid film for Jack Sparrow. It will be interesting to see if they end up doing Pirate of the Caribbean 6 and if they do will it have Johnny Depp back as Jack Sparrow? If not, the film most likely won't be successful. Would you like to see Johnny Depp back as Jack Sparrow?
Plot:
Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Capt. Jack Sparrow feels the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost sailors led by his old nemesis, the evil Capt. Salazar, escape from the Devil's Triangle. Jack's only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it, he must forge an uneasy alliance with a brilliant and beautiful astronomer and a headstrong young man in the British navy.

Personally, it wouldn’t be Pirates of the Caribbean with out Jack Sparrow
@@ceciliademoss456 yes
The only one who ever refers to Barbossa as Hector throughout the series is Jack, which is always my favorite detail. The two have had such a long history together, that despite all the animosity between them about who is truly Captain, there is a mutual respect and view of each other as equals. It is probably one of Jack’s strongest relationships in the films
I remember he calls him Hector when he first sees him after they arrive in Davy Jones' Locker to rescue him but can't remember if he ever calls him Hector again before this movie. But as you said you can see that mutual respect show through in those moments I love it.
@@shaun4314 Jack calls him Hector at least twice in the 4th movie as well, so all the last 3 movies Jack has been calling him Hector.
@@anthonymcrooster3703 Oh. Well there ya go then!
"Ah Hector!"
Not sure about all that - Hector was Jack's first mate until the mutiny. He still calls him Hector.
The issue is that Davy Jones' being Captain of the Flying Dutchman wasn't a curse. It was a divine calling, bestowed upon him by the goddess of the sea. Will's being the Dutchman's captain *was* a curse. Calypso never named him the Captain; Will's being captain was the result of a technicality of the Dutchman: it always needed a captain. In essence, Jones' created his own curse when he carved out his own heart -- before that, his being the sea's ferryman was a duty.
So, when Poseidon's Trident was destroyed, and all curses were ended, Will was no longer bound to the ship. However: THE DUTCHMAN MUST ALWAYS HAVE A CAPTAIN. That is why it defaulted back to Jones. The Dutchman is an entity of its own, a vessel blessed by a goddess to sail the seas of the living and the dead. And since it had only ever had two captains, when one captain was freed from it, the other was called upon.
I, however, don't think Jones appearing in their bedchamber was foreshadowing him as a returning villain. Sure, he might have shown up with the intent of exacting vengeance, but perhaps seeing the Turners together, something he had never been able to have himself (the chance to live with his love), he begrudgingly let them be. Maybe he'll actually do his duty now, and ferry the dead to their final resting places.
And maybe Calypso's presence/absence won't anger him so much now. Now that he knows he was not abandoned/rejected/scorned; she is just fickle. Maybe he can live with that now. Or not. But I don't think he will come gunning for the Turners or Sparrow.
Possibly the main reason why Jack is the only one who calls Barbossa by his first name is because he (Barbossa) was Jack's first mate on the early days of the black pearl, therefore outranking him. No other characters in the movies outranks Barbossa and thus does not dare address him familiarly.
You can’t say that jack doesn’t care for Elizabeth and will, he checks on them one last time before he sets off on another adventure, they truly have such a complicated, crazy relationship between the three that it truly captivating
But still, Will and Elizabeth didn't think enough of Jack to talk about him to Henry, a detail that really bothered me a lot, especially because Jack saved their lives countless times.
Jack called him Hector in the third film when they've arrived in Davy Jones ocker and met each other again.
I really like the parallel in this between Barbossa and Blackbeard. Both found a long lost daughter, and in many ways Barbossa claimed his power from Blackbeard, taking his sword and ship and the magic connected to it. But unlike Blackbeard, who tried to sacrifice his daughter's life to save himself, Barbossa sacrificed himself to save his daughter. It's just quite poetic I think.
It was rumored a lot that Orlando Bloom was going to be back. But Keira Knightley said after PotC 3 that she would never come back to the franchise and she had that stance back when the rumors of them coming back were floating. So it was truly a surprise to see Keira back in the end, even though it was just for a minute. Wish they were back permanently for the next one.
When Orlando appeared in the beginning I said "I already like this movie" lol. Then at the end with him and Keira I couldn't help but make the happiest smile I could
yah she made 90 million dollars from 3 movies..she just sits at home all day chiliing
The ONLY complaint I had with this movie was that it was already established in Dead Mans Chest that Jack got his compass from Tia Dalma but then in this one he apparently gets it from some guy on his ship when he was younger. That continuity error took me out of it a bit but a very small complaint.
I like to think that he somehow lost it and she found it and in his search to get it back it led him to her and he had to barter with her to get it back.
Giving away the compass is the thing that triggers basically the whole bad-guy part of the story. But retconning its origin is beyond dumb, and irks me everytime I watch this film, because it's something that the writers should've known if they'd bothered to watch the previous films before writing this one..Other than that, this one isn't as bad as people say..
Well, it could be said that she seems to be a collector of items and perhaps he bartered it away to begin with then needed it back. They never actually said she made it but I get it, seems odd.
Only complaint? For me that was one of many 😅
I was also annoyed the “bloody pirates” line in the first 3 movies was changed to “dirty pirates”
I actually prefer this to the fourth one. Even though Jack was a bit more to the side. Barbossa has always been such a fun character to watch so it was nice to have a bit more focus on him. Also the return of Will and Elisabeth adds a fair amount to the story.
Also really good casting with that kid. He reminds me of both Orlando and Keira at times
I know there was quiet a few people who didnt enjoy this movie when it came out, but i enjoy all of. these movies! Jack, Will, and Elizabeth were a lot of my child hood, I was born in '03 so I literally grew up with these. I even had Jacks compass and dressed as a pirate for Halloween one year. There is something truly captivating about the movies in general but experiencing in theaters was some of my favorite moments. I saw this one in theater, the laughs in the bank sequence and the gasps of the daughter reveal and the aw of the ending.
theyre cool classic adventure movies and the first 3 especially were awesome
I watched it in cinemas, I didn't really enjoy it. All spectacle, no heart , weak plot and characterization. It was fine, but looking back on it, it's better than the trash Hollywood is putting out recently.
@@monkfishy6348 I have to agree to a degree. The plot is ok, but characterization is very very bad. We know nothing about Carina and Henry and in all honesty, I felt the reveal of Carina being daughter to Barbossa was so cheap.
I mean, it's not a bad thing per se, but just give the two some alchemy, maybe even before Barbossa realizes their blood relationship. Just make them bond over something small, like star chart / maps (she's an astronomer and we see Barbossa often planning the journey while Jack is doing dumb shit around, so that could actually work well).
How the hell could you like this garbage?
I LOVED seeing Will and Liza together again!
Salazar was the creepiest by far. The black in his mouth and the power and evil he portrayed was excellent. I loved seeing young Jack too. ❤
Shame he had no real depth, like Davy Jones for example.
One of the things I loved about this movie was that it harked back to the original as when barbossa referred to his daughter Carina as treasure it made me think of when Will and Jack first go looking for Elizabeth on the Isle de la Muerta and Jack says to Will how “for someone who claims to hate pirates he is well on his way to becoming one” and then saying because he is “completely obsessed with treasure”, Will then disagrees and argues he “is not obsessed with treasure” just as they discover where Elizabeth is and Jack says “not all treasure is silver and gold mate” as he looks at Will and then at Elizabeth referring to her as the treasure Will seeks to find because of his undying love for her. Whether they meant to tie the first and 5th movie together I’m not sure but that’s one of the little details I noticed when watching the most recent movie and I liked the fact that without Wills love for Elizabeth in the first movie and choosing to set Jack free to go and find her together, without that and all the amazing series of events that happened after it throughout the movies as a result, then like The Oak said Barbossa might never have found his own treasure the same way Will might never have found his if he didn’t go out and search for Elizabeth himself. Maybe I’m reading too much into it but these Pirates movies have a lot of hidden meanings and theories that tie together I’ve discovered over the years, would be interesting for you guys to react to or find out about them in your own time, loved the reaction guys!!x (sorry for the long winded comment)
Don't apologize. That's what this is here for. 😁😁😁😁
@@BaddMedicine jude law Is it going to play Captain Hook in the live action Peter Pan
@@BaddMedicine yeah it was just a dream I believe Captain Hook will be the next villain in Will Turner's new Worthy opponent
@@manuelaguiar8753Yeah and that was trash lol
Fun Fact; the British guys from movie 1 and turned pirate in movie 3 also were the cast on Jake and the Neverland Pirates kids show. Pretty fitting for them to do a kids pirate show and be in the pirates movies. They didn't play animated characters, they played themselves. Sort of like a narrator and would sing pirate shanties here and there.
(I may have nephew that loved that show. I may have watched it with him 🏴☠️ )
This is the perfect ending! There is no way to top this, especially without Jack. No Johnny, no Pirates. But honestly, this might be my favorite after the first!
This movie doesn't get enough credit and it's definitely up there with the first movie for me. Great story, awesome visuals, a fun journey, and lots and lots of laughs. Great reaction and glad you guys liked it so much!
This movie is the one where Johnny Depp himself was going through stuff and drank throughout filming. Through a lot of the movie, idk when he's just playing the character or actually drunk
He is obviously drunk. Worst performance of him imo

I didn't even think of this until watching this reaction but it is interesting that Henry follows the same path as his Dad in the movies. Will was determined to free his dad Bootstrap and Henry did the same thing. I only wonder where is Bootstrap at the end of this movie since the curse was lifted? I don't remember him dying in the series. The boring answer might just be, he wasn't hired or didn't want to come back for this movie.
I love you guys! Badd Medicine is my new comfort channel where I can just chill and watch good movies/series.

Heck yea. Interstellar is truly a masterpiece!
The actor who plays Scarfield is also playing Faramir in LOTR
I thought that was him, I liked him in Van Helsing as well.
David Wenham, he is a lesser known but still great Australian actor.
This was a fun ride, I really enjoyed and appreciated the reactions, it made my rainy September more fun, so thank you for that ^^ Can't wait for the next reaction series!
Very kind of you, Mia. Glad we were able to bring some joy to your world. Maze Runner is next. :)
Javier is just amazing at playing villains, if you've seen Skyfall and No Country For Old Men you'd understand.
He actually decided to do a POTC for 2 reasons, firstly because his wife had been in the previous POTC movie (Penelope Cruz), but mostly he did it for their kids.
This makes me want to watch this film again, as I never rewatched it and didn't remember it being this good!
Great movie and great reaction guys. Allways gets me in a good mood.
and
I dont think it was confirmed that Will and Elisabeth was gonna be in this movie. Maybe it was some rumors, but in that case it was rumors I didnt know about.
I remember that when I saw this at the cinema, I was so surprised and hyped when I saw Will at the beginning, with his kid.
Personally I loved this movie
Before the movie came out I think some of the trailer sort of spoiled their presence, though it's a shame (to me personally) that they ended up as mere cameos, I thought that at least Will could have been more integral to the plot, maybe since he is captain of the Flying Dutchman he could have appeared to save the day, help his son, maybe some cool ship battle (which suprisingly are missing in the fourth and now this last fifth so far movie :)), Will trying to save his son in climax or something :).
Oh man, the fact that I found you guys, started watching from the pirates movies, watched up to 4 and was like, man I wonder when they'll do the 5th one and it comes out the very next day? Amazing.
😁😁😁🤘🤘🤘
Glad to see this movie get some love. I saw it in theaters and thoroughly enjoyed it. I can see how many people didn't like it, specifically the rendition of Jack Sparrow's character being different from the other movies, but I still thought it was a fun movie to watch.
It was a fun one. It's not the first one, but still watchable.
Without Jack Sparrow, never. For me this is a 5 of 5 for all 5 movies. Johnny was a big part in rewrite the story and the joke after the script was done. It is his story and without him it will be like you stolen him.
I'm just happy Will and Elizabeth finally got a happy ending, I would have actually liked a 6th movie with them and Jack 🙂
51:00 you explained it perfectly I agree 100% this was my favorite movie too!

This is such a great movie franchise, love it. It was really funny to see your reactions to them! 👌
Salazar was a cool bad guy, the floating cgi hair is a damn good detail and the "Moses" scene where the sea is split was great.
"The guy with the band aid from 300" 😂 It's Faramir from LotR! 👀😊
Now I will patiently wait for the next movie franchise you guys react to, it will be entertaining whatever it will be. I still hope for the "Underworld" movies, but that probably won't happen, but hey we can all hope. 😁

@@zjjohnson3827 I know! It's awesome! 👌😊
That captain that you recognized is from 300 yes, BUT ALSO lord of the rings! Faramir!
Yes I was looking for this comment! Haha they didn’t recognize him as Faramir!!
this
I actually got excited when they showed the young Jack in this one. I thought (at the time) it was a great way for them to be able to maybe continue the movie series when Johnny Depp decided to not do any more. Little did I know what was going to happen in real life.
We could easily follow the adventures of a young Jack as the age of pirates grew. Would I like to see Johnny back as Jack? Of course!! He’s so much fun in the part. But would I see a movie or series of movies following a young Jack? Yes! Seeing Jack evolve into the character we know and meet done of our favorite supporting characters (Gibes, for one) would be a lot of fun.
It’s the final minutes of this movie that makes it for me. Will and Elizabeth reuniting, with that beautiful musical score going, it was the one time I was invested and emotional. If this is the final Pirates movie we get, with Johnny Depp, I’m at peace with it.
6:40 Yes - David Wenham aka Faramir!
I love this entire series! I remember my family rented out Curse of the Black Pearl on VHS when I was 8 (how the times have changed) and I was absolutely terrified. That 'hello poppet' haunted me until Dead Man's Chest came out. That year, my aunt took me and my brother to Disney World for the first time at Halloween and I went as Captain Jack Sparrow. We did the lunch with the princess thing for my younger cousin and there I was dressed as a pirate. I even kept the beads in my hair as long as I could. On Stranger Tides didn't bother me as much as most, though I understand the disappointment, but for what it is, it's still a good movie. When I found out that they were making this movie I was ecstatic! Though I was 22 ad didn't need to, I got my mom to watch all the movies with me and we went to the theater together. I went into this film thinking it'd be another random story, not really connected, and I was okay with that but when Orlando Bloom entered, the theater went nuts. These movies (and LoTR) were my childhood more than any other and I'm so happy that you guys loved this one! It's pretty high on my list too 💙
My favorite movie me and my sister and mostly my father loved this movie before my Dads passing we would always watch this movie together like we would even make it a tradition to watch it every holidays, So me and my sister still do continue it till this day but it won't be the same.
But love watching your guys react to this movie & of cause others love it amazingly Big fan of Badd Medicine. I'm new though and I'll continue watching more of your guys reaction au revoir.
I felt it when Barbosa said treasure". This is the perfect ending to it all.. Thanx and take care..xx

Jack had called him Hector before, I think in 4. I enjoyed watching you guys watch this series as I just recently watched them all for the first time myself. Great job!
Yeah also in the third movie At World's End he spoke to him by first name :) Hector Barbossa, hehe a great character, and really grew into one of the largest staples of the franchise along with Jack hehe.
Yes I believe that it is in 4
@@mistyb1183 Also 3 when they rescued Jack from the locker he said, "Ah Hector" when he spotted him.
@@tapoemt3995 yes he didn’t think he was there lol
Thanks for the reaction, enjoyed the movie more than I remembered! 🌊 A few thoughts though:
Salazar could feel when Jack gave away the compass (right? don't remember), but didn't Jack already give it away several times throughout the earlier movies? 🧐Also, Tia Dalma gave the compass to him, not this guy 😆
Finally, I'd just like to express how disappointed I am about how Elizabeth went from Pirate King... to fancy stay-at-home-lady. It's like her whole heroine arch was for nothing... 😐
Jack calls Barbossa as Hector when they go to rescue him from Davy Jones' locker in the third one
According to wikipedia: "Johnny Depp proposed the character's first name "Hector" on set of the first film, although it is never mentioned in the film."
The cannon was there, but it didn't make the cut until later :)
Amazing reaction guys. I like how you always give a movie a blank chance, no prejudice or anything. That's why i like your opinions every time going into one of These.
Also i think while the plot of this movie definitely feels rushed in some places, it also gets alot of unfair hate. It has it's moments and as far as i'm concerned: Barbossas redemption is amazing, will and elizabeth finally reunited and of course - Salazar's introduction still gives me chills to this day.
Great reaction, this was fun rewatching with you guys. This is one of my favorites from the whole franchise. I think the ratings were very fitting. This movie was awesome for so many reasons, and I respect they were able to do this with a 5th movie.
Dang, I'm early!!!
Barbosa’s character arc is a legend in itself! Although I still cannot watch this chapter in Pirates of the Caribbean, because of the final scene that Barbosa is in! It makes me cry like a baby and a lot of the reason is because in that moment, it reminded me of a situation between me and my father!
By the finish of this movie, Depp was still under contract to Disney for 2 more Pirate movies, which we all know, they released him from due to the Heard b.s. Though he says he won't come back, he agrees there should be 1 more Captain Jack movie to end it all properly for the fans.
I loved this series!! I was looking forward to them every week thanks for watching these! My partner and I are big fans of the movies! 🍿
man, this movie always makes me emotional:D
I didn't catch this when I watched these before, but did they retcon where Jack got the compass? In the second movie Calypso had a line, something along the lines of "the compass you bartered from me, it cannot lead you to this?" And the this movie shows Jack being given the compass by some dude on the ship when he was a kid.
I didn't expect Kiera & Orlando to be in them. She didn't want to do any more after 3. She agreed to come back, but not for speaking roles. She doesn't say a word in 3 or 4. ... I do love the entire series. Great reaction as always. 👍💛
I can’t wait to see your guys reactions on the maze runner series. I know you guys are going to love it.

It was known that Will and Elizabeth would return, which is why I was disappointed how little they were actually in the movie.
yeah I actually loved this one! such a great ending and getting Will back from the curse! I like to think that Jack's comment about beyond the horizon is about going to world's end to get back Barbosa... but that's just what I'd want. I cried when Barbosa died 😭
Salazar is arguably Jack Sparrow's greatest arch nemesis because he defeated him and his crew when he was young which lead to their transformation.
Definitely my favorite of the series. Love y’all videos ❤
Thank you and thanks for watching. We appreciate it 🤙

I'm so happy you enjoyed it so much, I think it's overhated but it's so good to have it all go back to the source
Great reaction, this one is really cool but my favorites are still the first and second movies, Idk why but they feel like classics, tho all the other ones are great movies too and really fun to watch, I love your reactions, are you guys gonna react to more harry potter fan films? The sisters of the house black is a great one very well done it would be so cool to have a reaction of it 😊
The first movie and this one r my favorite
I love all the pirates movies, but my favorite are the first 3. Somehow this one feels suspiciously too much like the first one, so it's giving me very strong Star Wars Episode 4/6/7 vibes in that all of them had the same plot - destroy the death star. In this case it's destroy the undead crew. I realize 2 and 3 are also about immortal crew members (Davy Jones' crew), but at least in that case it's not a crew that's undead because of a curse, it's a crew that is tasked with ferrying the people who died at sea, so it's not so much a curse as it is their duty, and the immortality comes with it.
Witch: Are you willing to die for a treasure?
Barbossa: I'm a pirate. (Of course)
Carina: Who am I to you?
Barbossa: Treasure.
He dies, and Jack says "It's a pirate life, Hector."
Fun fact, one of the heads in the basket (not being showed in this video) in the gallows scene, is from Rick Grimes (The Walking Dead). Johnny Depp's head was used in season 6, episode 12 of The Walking Dead, as one of the heads to replace Gregory's head. In return, Pirates used Andrew Lincoln's head in the movie.
(Google translate) Did you see that this island they were looting at the beginning has straight, parallel streets with lined up intersections? this is what makes it easier to steal, without many curves and crossed paths, it is easier to get lost and therefore not be able to escape.
In Brazil, there was a commercial port in the city of Santos (São Paulo) which was where sugar, coffee, coal and other minerals like gold taken from the state of Minas Gerais left, this was directed by the royal navy of Portugal.
Next to Santos, there is Paraty (a historic city in Rio de Janeiro) where the streets are still made of rough stone as they used to be, all the curvy streets, many closed, many dead ends, few crossings... it looks like unplanned constructions, but in theory they were thought to be just like that, to cause confusion and make it difficult to reach the port, after all, it is said that that was where the ores and spices were smuggled...
it was like the "gold route" pirate harbor. nowadays souvenirs have this theme, they are miniature ships and t-shirts with Jolly Roger. I love this city.
Can't believe they rated this installment as the best in the franchise.
