As a young boy, l admired Sandy on and off the field . He had an aura of humility that l admired and tried to emulate in all my life endeavors. I thank you Mr. Koufax.

Koufax and Brooks Robinson are why I fell in love with baseball as a little kid

You picked two of the best. I'm friends w/ Sandy & became an instant friend of Brooks when spent 2 weeks working a baseball camp put on for the Yomuri Giants by Don Drysdale.
I was 'talking' w/ some of the young Giants pitchers one day, (they spoke very little English, me? 3-4 words in Japanese). I motioned towards Brooksie, & asked if they knew who he was.
No, was the response from the 5-6 guys. I said, home runs, Sadahara Oh...third base, Brooks Robinson.
Their eyes got like saucers & all I heard was, oh, ah so & yes, yes in a mangled chorus.
I'll admit, I wept when I heard the news of his passing; he was one of the good ones.

I started following baseball at age 9 in 1962. Living in St. Louis, my heroes were Gibson, Brock, Flood, Javier, and Cepeda. But three players I was in awe of were Koufax, Marichal, and Mays.

1963 World Series game one at Yankee Stadium. Mikey Mantle's first at bat against Koufax. Curveball called strike. Fastball outside corner called strike 2. Mikey calls time and steps out of the batter's box. Mikey mutters to (Dodger catcher John Roseboro), "John, how the f*** am I supposed to hit stuff like that?" Mickey steps back in. Fastball inside corner called strike 3.

    1. Trade for Shohei Ohtani.
    2. Extend him to a long-term contract.
    3. Get him into the Hall of Fame.
    4. Put his statue next to Sandy and Jackie.
(Yes, I am daydreaming, let me be.)
