    We just got back from the Philippines last week. Our flight was on a Thursday, at 10pm. We got to the airport exactly 3 hours before our flight and still only barely made it to the gate before boarding. The initial pre-screening took almost an hour, that’s when they scan all your checked baggage. We checked in and that only took minutes. Then, the immigration line took almost an hour. The line to immigration for foreign passport holder was past the glass doors through the check in area of Terminal 1. After that, another shorter line to the x-rays, and then there’s ANOTHER x-ray line right at the gate! All these screenings are ridiculous and take up so much time! And you cannot bring any water more than 100mls through the gate x-ray! For someone traveling with children or seniors, this last x-ray is such an unnecessary process. And I still don’t understand why we cannot bring the water we purchased right outside the gates prior to boarding if we had already gone through two screenings. The Philippine government really needs to clean up this process. This will affect tourists’ decisions to re-visit the country.

      @gracebautista2090 Před rokem +2

      Wow! that sounds terrible. I don't understand why the Philippines still do all this unnecessary process. Not sure if Philippines knows that the whole world is now easing the travel process. Sad..sad..sad..Glad you guys made it home safely.

      @ontheroad5555 Před rokem +1

      I was there in September 2019 just before the pandemic struck. Like you say x-ray at the entrance. They took my aerosol anti-perspirant even though I came with it on the same airline but for some reason could not take it back. Then as we move forward another x-ray. At Philippine Airlines I had to open the luggage where they manually went through my luggage. Then at the gate there is another x-ray and removing shoes. I agree a lot of this is unnecessary and could adversely affect foreign tourism. The only people who got no choice are Filipinos who have to go there. Also after I entered the gate area I realized the toilets are outside of that area so if I needed to go use the restroom I would have to come back through security.
      Another thing about immigration is the offloading of Filipinos who are traveling abroad. Back in 2016 I got a ticket for my friend's sister-in-law to go to Thailand because she did not have a credit card. Nevertheless she was offloaded because immigration told her she needs a letter of invitation from someone in Thailand that had to be notarized at the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok.
      It's really crazy what goes on there. Keep in mind the Philippines is an isolated country surrounded by water. So most Filipinos will be born there and die there. Unlike their Southeast Asian neighbors in countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand who can easily travel overland to their countries or to countries like Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, even onward to China, or even west to Myanmar. It should be the immigration in the country being visited that should be concerned about entry status. We all see how people in the rest of the world travel. No one needs any letter of invitation. If I'm in Laos and I want to visit Thailand I can easily go there without worrying about a letter of invitation. Many of these countries rely on tourism so the last thing they will do is create roadblocks for people to enter.
      I get the impression that if you travel out of the Philippines you better be an OFW who can send home remittances then you're praised. But like the lady I helped she had worked in Kuwait for several years then went home but decided she wanted to visit Thailand. She had $700 US dollars in her hands and hotel already paid for her tour yet she was offloaded and never got any of that money back. Politicians need to be held accountable there and remove that authority from immigration who can arbitrarily disrupt the lives of Filipino travelers.

    Based on my experience last March 3, around 25 minutes at the immigration area. Just returned to the US after three weeks in the Philippines and had no issues with immigration or check in. I'm pretty seasoned when it comes to traveling and therefore knew what to expect. The bigger issue for me is navigating between terminals at NAIA, or trying to figure out what terminal to go to for departure. International flights often leave from terminal one, but some departing passengers may not be aware of this and will head to the wrong terminal. In addition, Philippine Airlines require departing international passengers be subjected to a mandatory bag search upon check in, which can delay the whole check in process. That in mind, I would recommend arriving at the airport at least four hours before departure to avoid missing your flight.

    • @marivicgarlit8298

    • @jnottinghamborn5949
      @jnottinghamborn5949 Před rokem +5

      In my experience of more than 50 visits to Manila since 2017, International Airlines are allocated to specific Terminals at NAIA and only use that Terminal for Arrival & Departures. Sorry, but you are not correct in your statement regarding international flights departing from T1. Your Terminal departure should be on your ticket or you can double check when you check-in online, either way, whatever Terminal you arrived at, assuming you have a return ticket with the same airline, you will depart from the same Terminal. PAL always use T2, Cebu Pacific/Singapore Airlines/Emirates/Qatar always T3, Thai Airways always T1, as for the US airlines, I won't comment as I haven't flown to the US from Manila, however, 100% the protocol of Airlines being allocated to specific Terminals will be in place.

      @@johnclark7973 my (limited) understanding of check in online, when you have hold baggage, is that this may allow you to pick free seats. That's about it (I think). Otherwise you need to bring your bags to a check in desk etc. (I've never been sure what a 'bag drop' area actually is).

    • @jnottinghamborn5949
      @jnottinghamborn5949 Před rokem +3

      @@johnclark7973 Online check in is available via the website of the airline you use, in my case as a frequent flyer that books directly with Singapore Airlines and others, I of course have a login and the App on my mobile phone. After the pandemic, airlines have been slow to restore this option, as mentioned in my case, I could check in online and confirm my seat with Singapore Airlines, but only in February 2023 receive my e-boarding pass, as the requirements to ensure passengers are following the protocols for Covid at the destination country, is the responsibility of the airline.
      After online check in and now receiving e- boarding passes again, If I was travelling with carry on bag only, I can just proceed to immigration on arrival at airport, however, if you have bags to check in, you must still go to the airline check in desks.
      Most airlines have an online check in desk for bag drop only for those passengers that have completed online check in, so the process is a little bit quicker as the queues are smaller and fast moving. Hope this helps, happy to clarify further if needed.

The airport is just not set up to handle the amount of people flying in and out. Example terminal 3 Has Way too many airlines Flying in/out. As for people, they don’t seem to understand how to properly Q in line, they don’t seem to understand how to follow simple rules and before you get to the counter have your documentation in your hands instead of going through your five bags looking for your passport

There we’re 5 counters open, 1 for business class,1 for online check in ,1 for economy and 2 for wheelchair pwd. We spent 2 hours on economy not moving because they prioritized the PWDS. I felt sorry at first for the pwd until it turned into contempt. Economy line was so long , it wasn’t funny anymore. My suggestion is, stagger the check in bet regular and pwd line. Work on the majority line before the pwd line. Put more staff at the beginning and open early. 😔

    Online checked-in still has to queue in order to get your boarding pass and bag drop. There's no difference between online check-in and lining up for check-in. They should have a kiosk to be able to print your boarding pass and print your luggage tags if you already checked-in then go to the bag drop. That's it. NAIA should learn airlines from other countries.

We bought coffee and bottles of water. Then we proceeded to the boarding gate. We were asked to toss out our unfinished coffee also our bottled water were asked to be turned in. We were told to put our names on the bottles for identity if we need to drink just ask and drink it by their area. This was so ridiculous. I usually buy additional bottled water to fill my own water flask to bring for the flight. Thus i was a very thirsty senior along with my other senior friends. On arrival at terminal one my airline had not open check-in so I had to wait little over one hour. Like you said in the video why go to the airport five hours before your aeroplane departs when the check-in opens up three hours before. My airline opened up the check in three hours before our departure because I have grey hair they pushed me to the front of the queue which was great. But I still waited 90 minutes to get to the check in after arrival at the airport because I arrived very early because of what you said in the last video plus pending roadworks on the Skyway. Anyway I checked in went to immigration took no longer than 10 minutes so summarising I arrived at terminal one at 5:15 pm yesterday Wednesday the eighth waited 90 minutes because of my check-in counter not open then just a short quick trip through the lines at immigration. pays to arrive early anyway. I just came thru immigration arriving in manilla end of January. The line was very long but what happened is they pulled all Philippines out of the line and processed them pretty quickly then everyone else arriving went pretty fast after that. It did seem like a long time but it only took about forty minutes total. It would've been easier if we all knew exactly what lines to get in to start but the airport staff were working pretty hard. I have to say most airports were similar because there's not really clear signage and instructions exactly where to be regardless of country. I found the American airports less helpful. It could've just been that I arrived in the US late Sunday night. Leaving Manila would've been a lot harder for me as you're not in the same place as arrivals but my wife and her cousins were there which made it so easy. We had time to get a bite to eat and spend another hour together before I left. I really didn't want to leave tho. It's very hard to leave your wife anywhere but at least she is with her family there. Well my family as well. Can't wait to go back or get her here. Whichever comes first. Let me just say again because I had to go to four airports to get to manilla and four to get home. The immigration lines were all fully staffed and working hard yet they were all really friendly even in the US 😊.

    This was unfortunately also the case in sweden. Only months before i traveled to the philippines last year the swedish arlanda was suffering from the same issue, not with immigration, but security check. Some passengers waited 3 hours and still missed the flight. The authorities then said you must come extra early to the airport. That backfired like a nuclear bomb. Now of a sudden there were cues stretching five or even seven hours because after all you were told to come "early to the airport". It went so bad there were even traffic jams on northern side of stockholm due to the long queues to the airport. Eventually they put in a rule that if you came more than 3 hours before your scheduled flight you had to wait outside of the airport. I am lucky this did not happen to me, because ny train to stockholm got delayed by 10 hours, so i literally came the last hour before the flight and just barely got onboard. The philippines may be lacking infrastructure but in sweden we have malfunctioning infrastructure.
    Also, the time to get a new passport in sweden exploded to several months. Therefore i had to go with my current passport which was going to expire in 2024 autumn. So yeah, sweden is poor. In the philippines everything is maybe slower but what can you expect? They seem to still do stuff with pen and paper anyway.
