- Oier Lazanko of team Movistar produced some staggering power during the Clásica Jaén Paraíso, averaging 360 watts...for 4 HOURS! Do these numbers alone point towards an emerging Classics megastar? In other news, Evenepoel is back and even(epoel) better than ever, pro cyclists are turning into elite runners, and Jonas Vingegaard has changed his name.

Will Oier Lazkano be the next king of the Classics? 🚴🏻♂
Misspelled on the video description. Thought it was a new rider! ‘Lazanko’ 😅
The king (Mathieu) isn't dead yet. So no new king in the foreseeable future
Gosh you guys, it's becoming a running joke to call Evenpoel -> Van der Poel. :)
Big time misspelled and mispronounced indeed! Fun fact: the surname Lazkano comes from the town of Lazkao, birthplace of Joseba Beloki @@emersonVZLA
“You can breathe a Si of relief…”. Nice one, Si!!
I would be so lost without the weekly recap. Thank you so much.
Steven Porter
Perfect recap as always. TY (:
Thanks Si and crew...
No way he could do that avg or even ftp... That's MVP kind of numbers, this was pure malfunctioning power meter
Indeed. Like an optimistic, Belgian amateur on Zwift....
@@winstoncat6785 on zwift he couldn't even do a top 10 in a race :P
What are you talking about ? At 74kg, his ftp is surely anywhere between 410 and 440w.
4K nice! subbed!
A case of power meter misscalibration? 😂
@@theeverlastingspiral9617his weight is 74 kg so around 4,8 and not 5,5.. not so smart eh
Loved it last year 🔥
It should be mentioned that naming conventions in Denmark are different to the English speaking world and it has changed even more in the last 150 years. Two surnames is very common. One from the father and another from either the mother or the wife. The surname ending in -sen (patronymic) will typically come last. It doesn’t raise eyebrows in Denmark the same way it would if an English family did that.
top pronunciation action from si. at first i thought he was aving-a-pool of my leg but he stuck to his guns
Si, good gob mate. I like your news version better than Mr. Loyd better pauses more impression more relatable. 👍🏻
@cillian I also came off my fixie and broke a bone (shoulder blade). Short story, stopped pedalling. Long story, I was concentrating on putting the top back on a water bottle 😂
Got Roglic but wouldn’t have thought Quintana!
Rare si episode
After watching the concussion incident with Adam Yates at the UAE Tour today there must be a better protocol. I understand the difficulty determining concussion in the heat of a race and the adrenaline rush of a rider trying to get sorted and back to the racing. I suggest that the UCI require accelerometers in pro racer helmets accessible via a cell phone app that would be installed on staff and med support phones. If post crash any rider’s accelerometer reports a g-force moment in excess of a pre-determined level then that rider should be pulled from competition on the spot. Not perfect but far better than the risks associated with the lack of a consistently applicable standard today. What if Adam had crashed a second time and incurred another blow to the head?
We learn also, and you don`t mention it, that Soudal teamwork can crack Wout van Aert on the mountains, which is in fact, a logical thing, consider the size of the belgium rider.
For all goons in these comments: No his power meter is not misreading. Yes his weight is closer to 80kg then pcs’s claimed 74kg. These numbers are about the same as mvdp’s strade in 2021 except that mvdp was 4kg lighter then lazkano. Still impressive though
1:20 wot ru talking about, cuh? The "arrive" sign was on the finish line gantry, the gantry he raced to in his head had a "25" meter mark on it. Phake news, fellas.
Dull Men’s Club style observation: why do organisers, given a long straight, decide to put the finish line on the one bit of bend? Take st2 of the Volta a Algarve. Surely the finish line should be perpendicular, not to the edge of the road, but to a straight line from the last apex? This would give a straight sprint with no advantage. Otherwise, on a curve the advantage is to the rider on the inside. In an extreme example, imagine finishing on a roundabout where the finish li e was at right angles to the edge.
Roglic and I don‘t know eventually Thomas or Quintana, both some time ago 😂
0:27 ahahahahaha
Those numbers are Shimano powermeter numbers
van der Poel or Evenepoel or Vennopoel ? 🤣🤣
I was so confused xD.
Same here ?
Is it my hearing or his talking? Sure sounded like vanderpoel to me.
Evenepoel
Del Toro's position on the bike is so compact he looks like a hedgehog
Nice. I can do 360w as well for 15 seconds. lol
Faster than Ronnie O'Sullivan! That alone is impressive.
Rocket Ronnie!
The local dignitary too embarassed to clap hands at the Andalusía podium ceremony...
360 is really good! I can only do 300, hoping to push it to 320 this year.
Mark Cavendish ?
How the hell do you feel justified selling a jersey for $244. That is INSANE
Lazkano..
Right, not Lozanko, geesh.
stage race wins... surely Cav?
Overall GC wins. Dan
Is there anyway to watch cycling in Rest of World (Asia) after GCN+ folded? Apart from using VPN.
405np cannot achieve that with zone 2 training 😂
When you are a kid you always push at 200% which builds a strong foundation which can be maintained by structured training incorporating zone 2 training
I bet some of these pros are upward sloping their power numbers to try and trick opponents into thinking they are stronger compared to what they are. Everything is a psy-op these days lol
Who is Vennopool? 😂
He is in Deadpool, we think? 🎬

I'm losing another batch of faith in humanity, reading this comment section. How are 25% of comments about how much of a "tit" Vingegaard supposedly is for taking his wife's name? Like, how does a man loving his wife rile up so many people so much that they feel the need to pick that as the one thing they took from this news round-up and rant about it?
Maybe a lot of the comments have been deleted, but I spotted only one such comment. Don't let one sad man ruin your faith in humanity.
@@beckobertI wrote this shortly after the video was posted and it was 3 out of 12 comments then. I'm glad some have been deleted
Somehow Vingegaard's name change does not surprise me...
Probably didn't fancy being known as Jonas Rasmussen, that's why we call him Vingegaard and now with Hansen as the surname....it'd be nice just knowing him as Jonas Hansen to be honest.
Hell there’s a 70 yr old BMTR Zwifter that endlessly turns out 350watts so a pro doing it ,yawn😆
Dear Si, please don’t say “Van Der Poel”when you mean “Evenepoel”! You said it like 20 times wrong!!
Some practice please…😵
Expect lots of climate and farmer protests during the classics
Beta energy Vingegaard
Hmm 360w for four hours = some amazing pharmacological assistance. Viva Pharma!
Not impossible if the FTP is over well 400 and you fuel enough.
Proove it or shut up.
@@chrisridesbicycles If it plays to your strength and you've trained properly for it, holding 85% of your FTP for 3 hours is not so bad. I'ven done 311W for 3 hours while my FTP was only around 355. Sweetsport and FTP work to extend TTE helps tremendously with those efforts.
@@robertskochinstitut6653 Respect, that‘s a lot. Time trialists are different. I calculated how much that would be for me (assuming at least 400W FTP for Lazkano) and it sounded horrible but doable. I think it comes down to how many carbs you need which depends on how much fat you can still use (very individual) and how much you can still digest at that power. All things that can be trained.
@@simonlovescycling7977 keep your head in the sand and everything will be ok.
He took his wife's name?????????? I guess it's easier to pronounce.
Well I’m officially rooting from Tadej now….
Top ironman do 4hrs at 340w and then run 2hr36 marathons.... these boys need to try harder
Source?
@letsgetbusychild Sam ladlow shared his data on the how they train podcast
@@cbandyxxx his NP was 332. Big difference from 405. Still impressive, tho
@letsgetbusychild easy mistake too make, he did do a 3.8k swim before though. Probably more than the cyclist did?
Remco is overrated
He seems to avoid the big guns. We have not seen him against Pogi in LBL or Jonas in the mountains or in a TT. The tour will be super interesting.
@@chrisridesbicycleswell it’s not his fault if pogacar crashes out in LBL. His previous TT performances speak for themselves but he will likely crack in the mountains.
@@elliottd323 Of course it‘s not his fault, I‘m just saying we have not seen him against the most capable rival (IMHO) for that race.
@@chrisridesbicycles explain me please, how does Evenepoel avoid Pogacar at Liége when they both started it?
It's not his fault both Roglic and Vingegaard "avoided" him at LBL. I guess Pogacar and Vingegaard didn't go to Catalunya and the Giro to avoid him as well?
The 4 best stage race riders don't compete against each other much, but how can you decide it's only 1 guy's fault?
Haha that confirms what I thought about Jonas Vingegaard. Absolute tit.
Get mad over something that doesn't effect you? Kk
oooooh you're such a macho macho man
All it confirms is that he's a Dane and there are different naming conventions, not just the one you know about.
triathletes can do 360w for 4 hours...
No they can't, top pros do 290 to 310
@@benbwaite9858Yes, Jan Frodeno told that in an interview and he is the goat.
@@benbwaite9858 Nope. Magnus DItlev
@@israel_started_it_ALL_in_1948 Ohh really! Jan Frodeno , Sam Laidlow and Matt Burton all in the top 5 course records for bikes with an average power between 305 and 311 watts, I can't find Ditlevs power can you link me the article where it says he did 360 for 4hrs.
@@benbwaite9858 Let us know when Paris roubaix riders swim 49 min 4k first and 2:40 marathon after. What classics riders are doing is not difficult when RIDING ONLY. Laidlow and Ditlev no probs. Many other tri geeks too. Most top IM could ride classics and beat cyclists only who are on world tour teams. See Cam Wurf of Eneos.
