When you first broke out the green marker my first thought was "no. how do you know it was assembled correctly?" Thankfully you did not use the marker for reassembly! Later cars are 99% the same, I think the big difference being the washer is not a separate piece on later cars.
The one thing you missed, didn't mention, was clocking the two cv joints against each other for maximum articulation. On the cases align narrow with wide.
Ha! So true about not using the re-assembly marks. I guess at this point I shouldn't be surprised that something on this car wasn't assembled correctly.
I don't remember reading about aligning the narrow with the wide in the workshop manual but that makes sense. Great tip, thanks!
