    The Highway of Life
When I first met your eyes, you seemed to me to be a rainbow
Your smile like sunshine arching through the rain of my dreams,
At first sight it seemed like I'd known you forever,
But chasing you is like chasing a rainbow it seems,
Well the highway of Life is wide and everyone's on it,
The Dragonfly, the moon, and the old hollow tree,
As my dusty old boots are walking and walking upon it,
I was hoping that someday, you would walk it with me.
If we were two trees by a lonely fountain,
With a great wide and wild river flowing between,
Our roots would find each other and throw up a mountain,
And our branches would twine together in the stars as they gleam.
Well the highway of Life is wide and everyone's on it,
And it stretches on out along the great roaring Sea,
The town of our Love is just one stop upon it,
But I'm building a house there just for you and for me.
In a clearing somewhere, where the wild birds chorus,
A great ancient stag is striding right out of the trees,
Come with me, I will teach you my Forest,
For that great ancient stag striding out of the Forest is me.
Well the highway of Love is wide and everyone's on it,
The butterfly, the bat, and the bumblee bee,
As my dusty old boots are walking and walking upon it,
I was hoping and dreaming that someday you'd walk it with me.
Written on scraps of paper at the dawn of some roseate day, full of flamingo light and the ancient migration
