  • dartsreviewchannel.com/ A HONEST review of the new Winmau Blade 6 Triple Core Carbon dartboard. For the Winmau 2022 launch they have brought out three version of the Blade 6 dartboard, standard Blade 6, Blade 6 Dual Core and the one I am review which is the Blade 6 Triple Core Carbon, so called because it has a layer of carbon on the baseboard sticking to the sisal and providing more durability. But is it a gimmick or does it actually provide some useful purpose? May be too early to say yet but check the video for all the info.

    I got the Blade 6 TC for about one week now and i am pretty happy with it. The number ring is not as round as it supposed to be and there are like some black dots under the paint of a few white sections but its ok. The shop i bought it had a special offer that day: you have one dart to throw on a board and the number u hit u get that percantage discount on your stuff u want to buy. I said to mysel "f... it, i will go for Triple 20". So i aimed for Triple 20, threw the dart, the dart dropped a little bit and hit bullseye 😂 so i paid 45€ for a board thats worth 90€ 😂 man that was a great day

      @@DartsReviewChannel That's why I've never bought the dual core 5, I personally couldn't justify the price diff with the Blade 5 , I play about an hour a day and turn my board weekly and take care of it and they last. And tbh I may try the Blade5 dual core next ,not sure yet.

    • @DartsReviewChannel
      @DartsReviewChannel  Před 2 lety +1

      yeah I think for most that is the perfect reason not to spend the extra, not entirely sure its need but people get into that frame of mind of wanting what ever the next latest thing is and even if the Triple Core was crap it would still be flying off the shelves as Winmau and their Blades have captured the market. Blade 5's will be no longer made though so they may drop in price and if they do then definitely get one :)

    Darren, loved the review. I just switched my blade 5 with a Unicorn HD2. As far as your comments about how deep the dart penetrates the board is true. I can bury a 26mm point into the Winmau Blade 5. My Winmau board was getting a little rough so I decided to try the Unicorn. The Ultra was not available through any online retailer at the time. I totally agree about the sound. The wheels do transmit the sound. The Unicorn is much quieter. Their system is does not transmit the sound as much. Also the dart does not penetrate the board as much. I loved my Winmau board and still have it as a backup if needed, but the feel is better with the Unicorn. As far as mounting the board, Winmau is so much better. I even used the center screw from my Winmau board on the Unicorn. It located the board exactly the same and worked perfectly. One side note, The Unicorn is slightly larger than the Winmau. I had trouble mounting a large surround to protect the wall and the Winmau always had a gap. It is ¼” smaller than the Unicorn which fit perfectly on the board. Yes, someone actually hit the gap a few times!

      @DartsReviewChannel  Před 2 lety +3

    I had said that in my previous comment on the Eclipse Ultra video that price would be a factor in what board people will go for. The B6TC is €85 vs Eclipse Ultra for €90. The fact that Winmau have 3 boards in the collection gives people that choice. I’d still go for the B6TC over the Unicorn. Will be interesting to see after 6-12 months which one is more durable. Great review as always Darren.

      Yeah and I was right when I said things were increasing, some of the darts that were already out have increased in price too. But I think when all the stock of the boards considered good value are gone we may be in for a shock on the next batches, if they dont sort out the shipping and other issues its going to keep getting worse. Thanks David, so are you getting a B6TC for definite, I think its also a question of whether its actually any better than the slightly cheaper dual core version too :)

    My B4DC from 6 years ago had the more Orange tinted sections and I never liked that. My previous staple/blade NODOR had better colors a few years before. I’m about to hang a new one, and think I’ll just go with a B5 std. I came from round wire boards, and I honestly think there is much ado about very little since the blade boards got really good after they lost all the staples. I mentioned below, we just hung a new B5 Std at a friends house, and I don’t see how anyone can complain about it at all. As you said here, these changes are marginal at most. There just isn’t much left to improve upon at this point IMO.

    Hi buddy you need to read the press release and box .
    1/ the new numbers are laser cut from one sheet of steel, reason is to make it 25% thinner so less chance of a dart hitting the wire a great idea !
    2/As for the carbon there’s a excellent reason why that’s also been used again you need to read why !
    3/ using a digital micrometer on the letters is pointless as they’ve been engineered to have less area
    4/ Please base your review after you have used this new board it’s amazing .
    5/ as for cardboard packing I’m glad it has less as it makes less carbon footprint excellent that the company are forward thinking .
    6/ if you haven’t tried the blade 5 how can you give a honest review on the blade 6 ?
    7/ The colour slightly less red means a better vision focus and less distraction on the eye
    Please” use “ the board and then give a “honest “ review . Cheers 🧐

    • @DartsReviewChannel
      @DartsReviewChannel  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks again for your feedback Dave, its always good that people give feedback whether its right, wrong or indifferent its good to have a discussion about it either way.
      Its also good that people point out if I say something thats wrong or forget to mention something important, although I have been doing this reviewing thing for over 9 years now I certainly dont pretend to be an expert at all things darts, also I am no engineer nor do I have any kind of capacity in engineering.
      I do ask the brands questions when I can get a chance to and am always happy to learn about the process involved in making darts and darts equipment as I mention in many videos and especially when I mentioned about the guy from One80 who explained a lot of how a board was made.
      My video was made and edited and uploaded before I got to see any of the launch videos or hear any of the discussions and tweets etc about it. All I had was the info on the box and brochure which was the same.
      I purposely did not open it as I wanted to give my very first HONEST impression on video, and as I said in my Winmau gift box video by the time my video goes live you the viewer will know more about the board than I did at that point.
      I did have some questions about the board specifically the carbon layer as mentioned in the video and I got a reply, I also sent other questions where I did not get a reply, presumably because they were busy with the launch.
      So looking at your numbered points I will try to answer as best I can.
      1. I read the number ring was laser cut and that it said it was steel and I also showed the features in the video and told the viewer if they wanted to pause it they could read it in detail. But the number ring has nothing to do with the wires like you say. The number ring clips on and off and has no affect on the spider. Its only the bull and 25 ring that have been made 25% thinner as people complained the older version was too thick. Even though I knew the number ring was said to be metal, as you saw my first reaction in the video was that it looked like plastic. I was not the only one to say that too on first seeing it, others have said the same thing.
      2. You cant know at this early stage if the addition of the carbon layer is an excellent idea or not, could just be a gimmick and what was said on the box was kind of vague, just saying it improved durability, again that is the question I asked Winmau about and I talked about the reply in the video. If it has been written about more in depth elsewhere I have not seen it.
      3. I never used a micrometer on the letters? I did measure the scoring segments as I have done with every board and many many people always want to know the size of those segments, if you have followed darts on social media in any capacity for the last ten years you would know its often a highly discussed topic.
      4. I said in video I will be updating in time like I do with every board I review.
      5. less carboard packaging is a moot point, if its from sustainable sources and its recyclable I would rather it be there than to have a board that is damaged and needs sending back and a new one getting re-sent, that would increase carbon footprint even more. Same applies to the silica which helps prevent moisture, boards are often affected by humidity so if its stored badly again would rather it be there than not.
      6. Who said I have not tried the Blade 5? I have tried every Blade board and reviewed them since Blade 4 Dual Core.
      7. Speaking from memory I think the Blade reds have always been a bit lighter and slightly orangey but it seems a lot more orange on this new Blade 6. Could be because I have been using boards that are a deeper red recently and the orange looked worse than I remember or could be I got one that was lighter coloured.
      As to whether it makes for a better focus that is debatable. We all see things differently. I have not so great vision and my right eye is my worse eye and it sees things around 30% darker but even to my right eye the colour looked too orange.
      Bottomline is I found it more distracting than helpful. Again I have heard others mention the same.
      You say use the board for longer before reviewing, well once again its my first HONEST impression and I never really said the board was bad if anything I said lots of good things about it, whether or not it will wear well and perform well obviously takes time to determine.
      Also I mentioned the last two dual core boards I had went all lumpy after around 6 months, so I am hoping the addition of the carbon layer sorts that issue. The box makes no mention of the carbon that is stuck on the back of the board though.
      Cheers.

    Can anyone help me out with some info please? I got this board for Christmas. I use quite long points which vary between 36 and 41mm and they're burying themselves quite deep into the board already, considering its a new board I find it quite odd as this wasn't the case with my blade 5 dual core or most recently I had a mission samurai 2 which was extremely firm at first and I'd say after a year I'd still consider the samurai 2 more firm than this brand new triple core board I got for Christmas. Is this normal due too the triple core and winmau just having a softer sisal or have I just managed to end up with a board from a bad batch. If I use 41mm re grooved points for example they are going into the board almost too the grooves not quite but almost which is very deep for a 41mm point as these grooves are far back on these points made by red dragon and winmau which is the exact reason I use them but I fear in a month or so if the board becomes softer they will go even deeper past the grooves which is pretty crazy on such a long point and would damage the sisal if it gets to that point. Is anyone else's board soft like this and is it just the norm for the triple core. Any advice would be really helpful. Its also a lot noisier than my brand new blade 5 dual core and samurai 2 were when I first got them. Got no receipt and my local argos's are sold out anyway so if it really is a problem I'd probably just try find a normal blade 6 and put the triple core ring on that which is such a disappointing situation to end up in for a £75 board.

    • @DartsReviewChannel
      @DartsReviewChannel  Před 2 lety

      dual core, triple core are generally softer boards, top layer is deliberately softer to allow the darts to penetrate and stick into lower layer. My B6TC is pretty soft too but no two boards will ever be totally the same, natural fibres are never 100% consistent and the conditions/environment will affect them in different ways too. Chances are the standard Blade 6 may be a better bet for you or stick with a Samurai 2 or try a One80 G3+.

    • @jaydoyle7380
      @jaydoyle7380 Před 2 lety

      Thanks for the reply, that makes a a lot of sense then if the top layer is specifically softer for that reason. I'm happy too stick with this blade 6 triple core as it was a Christmas present lol i was just worried I'd got a dud. I've put 2 surrounds around the board too dampen the sound of it as like you say in the review the rota locks do make the noise louder on the wall. My target corona light is helping keep the 2 surrounds on otherwise the 2nd would just fall off lol. When this board wares in maybe a year or so I'll probably switch to the standard blade 6 or most likely the blade 6 dual core as I don't really like the veins on the standard blades. Definitely keeping this metal ring for any future boards though as it does add a nice touch of class lol.

Sometimes I've had to use a sharpee after a 6 month period lol. Didn't happen at all on the samurai 2.

Not sure about the smudges, could be something to do with the ink not drying right or maybe the way the spider is pressed in and some marks are left on the sisal?

From that reason I kept also my old one as a backup because it's still in good shape regardless of a signs of lumps . Just opened my blade 6 tc and was really disappointed to be honest hence why I found your video for the price you pay I expected it to be better built. The number ring is a key point for me. If the can’t be bothered getting that correct then why trust the build on the rest of the board. sent back and gone back to a blade 5

    • @DartsReviewChannel
      @DartsReviewChannel  Před 2 lety +1

    • @markknowles3177
      @markknowles3177 Před 2 lety

      Ye and the top left bracket for the ring was off the edge so as soon as I went to lift into position the ring just slid down. I know it sounds like a small problem and could easily remove and adjust the bracket but as a tradesman myself pride in the finished product is paramount and it just feels thrown together as opposed to trying to really innovate new boards and as I said originally if your paying more you expect better.

      @@DartsReviewChannel what i know from reviews is, that the unicorn boards look nearly perfect out of the box, never seen a broken spider or something like "holes/crater" in the sisal (dont know how to explain); my own blade5 has a really shitty OG 20 field :(
      but for my taste the blade 6 is much easier on the eyes in comparison with the unicorn ultra.

      Nah, but the Gladiator3+ surely ranges in the top 3. I play most of my sets with Firestorm Onyx points from Target and the Samurai II wears off way slower than the G3+. While the Samurai does take my two hours of daily practice quite well even after more than half a year , the G3+ became softer and louder (!) only after two and a half months. The G3+ indeed is a good board, especially when you can fetch it in a sale, it is pleasant to play on and has colours superior to the Samurai, but if you play a lot, then durability is what you´re interested in the most.

    The old problems with the blade 5 have all been addressed with some very clever engineering to make the new boards last longer and using some very clever carbon and laser cutting from one piece of steel on the new metal numbers
    But better than all that is the way the darts don’t bounce out … like other cheaper boards that I won’t mention .
    I feel as though a further review and more study into the engineering that has gone into this board and time will show how it is better and worth the little extra for our passion of darts 🎯
    Thanks for sharing and I look forward to a follow up . 👍😎

      Thanks Dave, I dont know but sounds like you may be involved in the making of this board, is that so? Or are you just repeating what they are saying is going to make it last longer as we cant know untill we have tried it for a great length of time? As mentioned in the video though I will be doing an update as I always do. It certainly looks like the new features should make it perform and last better and for many that will definitely make it money well spent if its so :)
