A very small part of this scene that always gets me choked up: Dio says, "So you've figured out how The World works? Fine, I'll give you props for that." Then Joseph, *immediately* without even missing a beat, clenches his fist and grits his teeth, angrily responding, "It was Kakyoin who did, not me!" Obviously Kakyoin is dead at this point, so it really wouldn't have mattered if Joseph has just taken that and rolled with it But his respect for his fallen friend/comrade is so high that he *absolutely refuses* to let Dio think that it was him
I love the dio's world arc so so much and this is a reason why. Calling back Erina and Hamon really ties the last parts together, makes it really feel like a trilogy
Sheer hear attack isn't really indestructable, and part 3 Jotaro would try to kill that rat with something else then "i'll just walk towards it and you throw pebbles". Also, they took out his free actions, which means that his 3 seconds of stopped time contain only 5 seconds, while in part 3 Dio's 5 seconds in the stopoed time, when he killed Kakyoin was like several minutes
Y Liang Jonathan quickly grew out of his sheltered youth. Just look at his fight in Ogre Street. He can throw down with the best of them. He's headstrong and fervent, and he has a greater degree of willpower than Joseph does (although Joseph has it). Jonathan fights against crushed bones and blistered skin, and he keeps on.
Joseph- "Now I will show you my Hamon Clacker Volley!" Proceeds to detach a wrecking ball from a crane, pick it up with Hermit Purple and hit Dio with it.

Joseph literally saved both his and Jotaro’s lives here. If he hadn’t shielded himself with Hamon, the World would have punched into his body, killing him just like Kakyoin, and he would have drank Joseph’s blood, giving him a massive power boost and allowing him to kill Jotaro immediately. This way, Dio incapacitating Joseph is delayed enough that Jotaro turns up before his hamon fails, preventing him from sucking his blood immediately and giving Jotaro time to learn how to stop time before he eventually does. My theory is that Jotaro couldn’t stop time while DIO was doing it as soon as given the opportunity, either that or he decided to wait for the perfect moment to turn the tides, along with this fact, moving within stopped time required practice aside from the affinity of being a time-stopper. Like how DIO technically moved for a few seconds during Jotaro’s time stop, his practice with The World was greater than Jotaro’s Star Platinum, allowing him to have a few more initial moments of “invading” Jotaro’s stopped time, albeit unconsciously, since DIO was too distracted about gloating in his supposed “victory” he didn’t even realize it, although taking Joseph’s blood did affect DIO’s mental state, which by no chance Jotaro could’ve foresaw, but it was what allowed him to deal the finishing blow, ironically DIO’s “escape route” had consequences and led to his downfall. Although I’m not sure if DIO himself would be aware of his mental state change, but knowing DIO he’d probably still try to siphon Joseph’s blood anyways just to have a fighting chance, but possibly more “carefully” he could’ve taken the blood of bystanders if he knew that’d happen, so that implies DIO didn’t know what would happen to his mind. Although I’m curious about something, say if DIO somehow survived beyond that and returned to talk with Pucci about the “Heaven Plan”, how would Pucci react, would he be disgusted at his true colors being revealed? Yeah but you need to take in account how Hamon is conducted, essentially given what Stands are you could argue that they might be very good for conducting Hamon, enough at least for Dio to know that if The World touches him it might potentially be worse than if Dio himself touched it
if this was young joseph with hermit purple he may have been able to beat dio here. Mostly due to his cunning when he was young and how good he was a setting attacks up. (he'd likely predict where dio would likely go in a time stop, throw clackers prior to him doing so, dio moves as predicted, clackers fly back and smash dios skull with hamon killing him)
TheDiamondBladeHD 2.0 Predicting, sure, but that doesn't make sense. Joseph needs a read on his opponents to trap him. Since he cannot see Dio inside stopped time he cannot see how Dio attacks, meaning that he cannot possibly predict how Dio would attack him. Him using Hermit Purple as body armor was his only plan since Kakyoin deduced that his The World wasn't a ranged Stand
One thing he could potentially do is predict where Dio will be when time resumes and use the same string trick he used against Esidisi. All he has to do is get Hamon into DIO and he's as good as dead. The only trouble is actually doing that since DIO stops time and has a stand that rivals Star Platinum in terms of raw strength.
It’s really what makes dio so threatening as an antagonist. All throughout this series, it’s been about figuring out how the enemy power works, and the destroying it easily from there. With dio, you figure out how it works, and you’re still like “well whoop de doo!”
You know the one thing I hate about JoJo? The bystanders. "Oh an old man just fell off the roof and is very clearly injured let's laugh our asses off at him." "Oh look an elementary schooler covered in severe open and bleeding wounds but let's leave him alone because he's 'gross'" Like, are they all mentally deficient? Is every non-character-of-focus a sadistic sociopath?
"What good does understanding my Stand's power do for you?" *Spends majority of the anime sending assassins to kill the gang before they figure out Dio's abilities*
DIO said that he wasn’t ready to fight yet. Which presumably is because A: he doesn’t have enough blood to have his full powered vampiric regeneration. B: he thinks that he hasn’t been able to stop time long enough to his satisfaction. (The more he stops time, the long he can stop it.) C: his assassins actually did a decent job, they almost died, a lot.
Well Joseph did inherit some of his tendencies of wits and fighting from his grandfather. Since Dio was a manipulative and schemer that contended with 1st Joe's hamon and stubborn intelligence (since it was he that saw through Dio's schemes even when they weren't as obvious). I think Dio's memory of hamon users like Joe and his natural observance of the families tenacity in battle would make for one difference in Dio's observance of these opponents as opposed to someone as much a stranger as the Pillar men or later seasons' enemies.
This Dio is very cautious, and for good reason. He's had experience fighting a Joestar so he knows how clever they can be, even in the face of certain death. He had a cop shoot at Jotaro, then listened for his breathing and heart beat, and even then wanted to decapitate him just to make ABSOLUTELY sure that he's dead.
Joseph for one second: I don’t know the meaning of the word panic Joseph for literally his entire life up to that one second: AHHHHH OH NO! OH MY GOD! HOLY SHIT! NIGERUNDAYO!
Joseph should have teached hamon to all the crusaders. I mean, they all have stands, ok, but if you gonna figth a vampire, would't you like to use everything in your hands to get a addtional advantage? If hermit purple can conduct hamon, just imagine what Star Platinum or even Hierophant Green woudn't do to Dio.
I mean they had 50 days and Hamon takes weeks of training to use effectively they found and fought Dio on the last possible day teaching them Hamon would just not be beneficial and if they stopped to learn Hamon Holly would die before they found Dio
Also Hermit Purple is a Hamon stand even if Jotaro found out Hamon they wouldnt be able to infuse it with their stands as their stands dont work with hamon
Would have been funny if Joseph was the one who ended DIO like the narrator from part 2 suddenly reappears, "Looks like our old friend as met his match but wait Joseph doesnt look even a bit scared" Josephs covered in blood and has his arms crossed giving DIO a similar speech he did to Esidsi DIO gets cocky and thinks he can easily beat Joseph since he has lost alot of blood and cant use hamon. DIO punches him but sike it wasnt blood but red blood like oil and its infused with hamon the dio dies
It was sometimes really hard to think that SC Joseph was the same dude being an absolute badass blasting the Ultimate Lifeform into space while he was also getting launched out of a volcano, while STILL being making smartass remarks to a fucking god
Throughout the Part 3, DIO paid attention only to Joseph. Joseph was the only one he cared about in the group. He respected Joseph, saw only him as a danger because Joseph was hamon user (and maybe he even had found out about the Pillar Men and their defeat at the hands of Joseph). Even fighting Joseph, he was being cautious and respectful. It wasn't until he had succeeded in killing Joseph that he started to pay attention to Jotaro and even then, he didn't respect or fear Jotaro until Jotaro proved to be far stronger than DIO had thought.
Something I noticed was Joseph was running away while thinking of kakyoin's message, and still managed to almost asspulled Dio with the vine barriers protecting him. He also thought of Kakyoin's message while running, pretty impressive for an old man.
"I don't know the meaning of the word panic!" (Except that one time when Kars became the ultimate lifeform and Hamon didn't do shit anymore. That had me freaking out, but DIO doesn't need to know that!)
Though Kars' existence would probably send DIO into a frenzy, because he doesn't accept anyone as even equal to him except the man who beat him 4.5 times.
A lot of people are theorizing as to how young Joseph could have won or how he's worse now, but being honest that hamon/hermit purple trick was pretty good and 100% would have worked if it wasn't for DIO's plot armour saving him up to be killed by the MC later

Yeah but you need to take in account how Hamon is conducted, essentially given what Stands are you could argue that they might be very good for conducting Hamon, enough at least for Dio to know that if The World touches him it might potentially be worse than if Dio himself touched it
we all clown on hermit purple but be honest just being able to jump building like spider man is badass

if this was young joseph with hermit purple he may have been able to beat dio here. Mostly due to his cunning when he was young and how good he was a setting attacks up. (he'd likely predict where dio would likely go in a time stop, throw clackers prior to him doing so, dio moves as predicted, clackers fly back and smash dios skull with hamon killing him)
niceu niceu, verrry niceu idea
Anadroll 50, or throw his ass to space, someone needs to keep Kars company.
Diego Medina lmao, just hermit purple spider man his way to the nearest active ocean volcano
1:52 Damn. That's one of my favorite DIO lines. It's just so intense and badass.
It’s really what makes dio so threatening as an antagonist. All throughout this series, it’s been about figuring out how the enemy power works, and the destroying it easily from there. With dio, you figure out how it works, and you’re still like “well whoop de doo!”
When Dio went to attack Joseph, he didn’t stop because he realized he was using hamon, Jospeh just used his second ability HERMIT PURPLE THE WORLD

*Spends majority of the anime sending assassins to kill the gang before they figure out Dio's abilities*
DIO said that he wasn’t ready to fight yet. Which presumably is because
A: he doesn’t have enough blood to have his full powered vampiric regeneration.
B: he thinks that he hasn’t been able to stop time long enough to his satisfaction. (The more he stops time, the long he can stop it.)
C: his assassins actually did a decent job, they almost died, a lot.
Dio is also shit scared of JoJos, he would have much rather not faced them himself.

*Alternate Universe*
THE WORLD: *punches Joseph*
DIO: Hahahaha
Joseph: And your next line is..
Damn, to think DIO quickly learned just how dastardly Joseph is known to be in terms of his Hamon Improvisation.
DIO is both super cautious and dishonorable, which are really bad matchups for Joseph to try to manipulate
0:34 That thing is a lot bigger than i thought it was
Star Platinum it's like 3 times bigger than Jotaro, I think The World is 3 times bigger than Dio too and Dio have a tank body

Joseph for literally his entire life up to that one second: AHHHHH OH NO!
OH MY GOD! HOLY SHIT! NIGERUNDAYO!
I kind of wished that Joseph would say "And your next line is.." to Dio lol
I wish Joseph’s Hamon trick would have worked at least a little. Like, I’d settle for DIO getting a few burns on his hand, that’s all I ask.

Would have been funny if Joseph was the one who ended DIO like the narrator from part 2 suddenly reappears,
"Looks like our old friend as met his match but wait Joseph doesnt look even a bit scared"
Josephs covered in blood and has his arms crossed giving DIO a similar speech he did to Esidsi DIO gets cocky and thinks he can easily beat Joseph since he has lost alot of blood and cant use hamon. DIO punches him but sike it wasnt blood but red blood like oil and its infused with hamon the dio dies
Joseph was not nerfed at all. In stardust crusaders he is 68 (!) so the mere fact that he is able to keep up with the rest of the team is incredible.
