The line from Trent, “You actually mean that, don’t you?” is such a special one for me, because I learned a while ago that some people think I’m being being inauthentic when I say I’m having a great day, or “I’m amazing” when they ask how I am (mostly at work). Because they themselves are always being sarcastic, they assumed I was, and because I’m never lying when I talk about how I feel, I assume others don’t. I make a choice every single day to enjoy what I have while I have it, I choose to have a good day - even if some parts of it aren’t great, it’s just a few moments. I don’t take running water for granted. The world is absolute shit, but human connection is part of what makes life worth living.
💯 I do the same. Don’t have time for those who ‘woke up on the wrong side’ and now it’s everyone’s problem. I’m just a happy person (96% of the time) I think be positive and it’s infectious.

The writing really is spectacular. They took a fish out of water skit meant to publicize NBC's contract to air the Premier League in America and created a brilliant show about relationships. All it needed was a reason for Rebecca to hire Ted and a reason for Ted to move to England.
I didn't even know that was the origins of it. That's awesome. it works so well.

The world would be a truly amazing place if we were all a little more like Ted. I'm glad watching this also inspired you to try and come at things with curiosity more and judgement less. A lesson we could all use a reminder on from time to time.
Yes indeed. That's just speaks to how relatable this this show and the characters are. Worthy lessons
One additional observation. Some of the humor is rooted in Ted's constant use of American pop culture references. Some of these are bound to fly over the head of some viewers. For example, who noticed that when Jamie Tart said "Cheers" in the parking lot (sorry, "car park"), Ted responded by saying "Night Court." (Night Court was the sit com that followed "Cheers" in the Thursday evening TV lineup in the 80s). But the brilliant thing is, even of some of those references are missed by the viewers, it doesn't detract from the humor --- because some of those references fly over the characters heads too. That's part of Ted's character. It works either way!
I love that you mentioned that. In essence we are part of the scene because of how much we understand or don't understand his jokes.

One of my favorite little moments is early on, right before Ted’s first press conference, when he sees the photo of Rupert with all the girls. After Rebecca tells his that’s her ex, Ted turns to her and asks if she’s doing all right. That obviously sincere concern from a man she’d met just minutes earlier puts the first tiny crack in her facade. It’s also the first time we really get to see Ted’s overall philosophy of life, and it’s beautiful!

It strikes the delicate balance of reaching both fans and nonfans of the sport. In fact the soccerfooty part of it is almost on the back burner sometimes, and it gives these excellent layered, complex a lot of room to shine

The Wire is a TV show that I 1000% want to watch. Every time I look up any list of the best TV shows of all time, the wire is always up there. But those are some looong episodes. I’m an American who has lived abroad (including in different parts of the UK) and I fell in love with football. My America friends kept hounding me to watch this show. I was really hesitant because I thought it would be cliches viewed through an American perspective. While the humor is pretty American, they did a great job of exploring British and football culture. I see a lot of who I used to be in Ted when he first arrives in England. Great show and I’m excited to see your reaction.

Kindness is so often mistaken for weakness, but in order to remain kind over time you have to have strong boundaries. (Which is part of why it's so damned difficult to stay kind!)
I love football. It's truly the world's sport. There's something magical about it, in that you can drop any roughly-spherical object somewhere near a child on any populated continent--even if you're hundreds of miles from the nearest paved road--and football is the first thing they do with it. And somehow, Ted adds to that magic. Wonderful series, and I'm so glad you watched it.

This was a big surprise, a very pleasant one ofc. Ted Lasso is a favorite show of mine, as a big fan of footy. Not gonna give you any spoilers but I know you will love it. Look forward you reacting to the whole show. So many great character, lot of drama and many special moments.
Oh and I enjoy a good amount of shows/series so I might suggest a couple from time to time n hopefully you'll get to experience them down the road, gonna be drama, comedy, thriller, a variety but the most important is that they're pretty darn good

-Masters of the air' is a based on true events, related to the WWII, produced by Tom Hanks I believe and Steven Spielberg was involved as well so you can only imagine.
I love this show so much. It's so good it even made me give a shit about football, at least in the context of the show lol. The writing is just precious. I understand it's more hassle to edit TV, but I hope you react to all of it :)

You are going to enjoy a future reference (don't worry - I'm not giving much away in terms of spoilers) to the 1994 Nigerian World Cup squad.
For the record, that side was an absolute holy terror. Frighteningly good. I remember watching them in the group stage, mouth literally agape.
I had the same feeling about 1986 Denmark. In the group stage, they were a machine - beautiful football. I have no clue what happened to them against Spain.
Trust me, I wish I caught all that but I was born in 95' and I did not start watching football until I was probably 12. :(

I'm a football OG, as far as Americans go. I fell in love with the game in the mid 70s when Pelé came to play for the old NY Cosmos. To this day, I refuse to accept that there has ever been a more brilliant footballer, Messi included. Twenty year career, three World Cups, best player on the best team in history (1970 Brazil), and so influential that Presidents, prime ministers, popes, and emperors literally cleared their schedules and waited in line just to shake his hand.
He did all that without modern medical treatment or training methods, 24 hour satellite sports coverage, or social media. With apologies to the Messi maniacs, great as he may be, he simply doesn't compare.
I support Celtic FC, and have done for forty years.

Great reaction! Like you, I heard great things about this show but didn't really expect to love it as much as I did. While you're watching you find yourself saying --- this show SHOULD be corny, sentimental and formulaic. But, like Ted himself, it just wins you over with its character development, quirkiness and heart. It's also a great reminder that the best sports movies and shows are never REALLY about sports. Enjoy the journey!

One little detail you might have missed. When Keely comes into the locker room and Ted is futzing around in the locker he's actually taking tape and covering up her nipples on her picture that was up in Jamie locker. It just shows another sweet side of him you know.

This show is GREAT. Rebecca is a total C and B word combined at the start, as she is willing to destroy Lasso just to get her way, we still cannot help but like her. Fantastic character development. That kind of development is pretty much the norm in this show, and sometimes very much not how you would expect (for better, and for worse). So no spoilers. I just wanted to share that I appreciate a show that respects the art of writing and their audience enough to have proper development that actually makes sense.
Also, I love your content. I have been away from it for a while, but I still remember how kind and thoughtful you are. We share the perspective on people being outright dicks. I put massive importance on curtesy and manners. Yeah, you might not like that person, but do not abandon your self respect aka curtesy and manners. But also, at certain rare occasions, you might just want to let a bit of that beast out. Not violently, of course. Much love and much gratitude!
