    Some people pay money for CrossFit training. I think having a pivot irrigation system provides all the CrossFit training that one needs without having to pay directly for it.

    Can you not get solid tires or at least foam filled tires for your pivots? Maybe even some sort of track system (like a skid steer) that gives you a bigger footprint to better support the weight of the pivot?

    I wish we had that kind of space out here in the Netherlands,but every piece of nature is closed for driving through. I know the Netherlands isn't that big but all those nature-freeks have a strong voice out here so as soon as it looks like a string of grass is touched they protest and make sure it is closed for traffic. I had a Landrover once but since there is no fun in driving around anymore I switched to an old Goldwing motorbike to sense some freedom on my travels. For as long as it takes.....🤞. They log down here in the south, kinda like you farm. Weyerhauser, potlatch, JP Morgan, are some of the main land owners that own hundreds of thousands of acres, they contract logging companies. Logging is really really expensive. It also tears the body up believe it or not, I know two men in their 50s who can't walk anymore, because they rode in heavy equipment in the woods all their life.

  • @user-es4wq7dp9d
    @user-es4wq7dp9d Před 2 lety

    What's with all the trees? When I farmed with my dad in 1958 (age 6) there were trees within the city of Marquette, Aurora, and Grand Island..... but on the plains the only trees were on the boundaries between farms in a very narrow row. There were also some trees along the Platte (along with small Crawdads and some Sandhill Cranes) and a great deal more water than you apparently have today. I would say 1-2 feet deep, but still with sand patches.
    PS: I have been doing some online research on tornadoes in Nebraska. On average (and if my Edge searches are accurate) Marquette seems to have had more tornadoes than anywhere else in Nebraska. Interestingly, "Tornado Alley" has been moving easterly in the last decade or so. The Alley used to run from Texas, north right smack through Oklahoma, and then, continuing northerly, into Kansas and Nebraska. Nowadays, with the easterly shift, there are an increasing amount of tornadoes in Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Missouri (like the real bad one in Springfield). Has your family encountered plains tornadoes before?
    PSS: I mentioned earlier that I was driving tractors at age 6. My dad was very careful about this, as when he was in public school in Hampton (in Hamilton County) there were kids in his class with amputated limbs from when they accidentally got drug into Harvesters and Pickers. So please watch out for that long hair. I don't know how often this happened to young children.
    PSSS: Your video skills are top-notch. Keep going. I like the nostalgia.
    Question: You are Swedish and my family was Danish. Back in the first part of the 20th century, how did Nebraska Swedes and Nebraska Danes get along? I know there was tension, back then, between Danes and Germans (which I hope has by now totally evaporated). Do you know what Ebelskivers are? My great-grandfather built the Danish Lutheran Church on display at the Stuhr museum in Grand Island.

    Equipment breakdowns approximately the same. Terrain way easier to farm on flat land then to log up and down a mountain.

    .... Empty gets stuck ..... back in the day when every pick-me-up was two wheel drive, in the winter we would put weight in the back to get more traction .. with the big o'l army truck you have lots of rubber on the ground reducing the downwards psi and the only wheels that have traction in soft ground is the steer axel ..... think of PSI on those back tires, they are just about floating when empty ..... do you have a scale on the farm, weigh the steer axel and figure out the PSI and then weigh the rear of the truck and do the same calculation .... the way it is now is good for doing brake stands .... I know nothing on the matter of running in sand and river beds but this is the first thing that came to mind when you were talking about it ..... why are pivot tires air and rubber, would steel wheels like they they had on tractors back in the day. Just seems there has to be a better way .... Hell ya to the outdoors and that beautiful country side you were exploring .... burnt wood has to be havested and to the mill within a year otherwise it is destined for the chipper ..... thx for the share .. as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .... have fun be safe, save our oceans ....

    It's the PP store. I never knew they had a store for that.
    I suppose as a farmer you'd need that. But I make more than enough for my needs on my own.

    Can’t you foam fill the pivot tires? I know they do it for back hoes and skid steers. Seem like a better deal than changing them all the time. You guys are great, keep it up.👍👏

    My dad did a brief logging job in Wyoming near the Idaho border way back in '73.
    It's nice to see that the same equipment type I used to operate is still being used today.

    Maybe a little maintenance on those pivot tires before the season starts? Check air pressures? Never-seize the studs.
