    Love to keep my Futur clean as well. I use Ballistol in the inner works of mine. For the old Futur where the stopper piece that stops it from turning past the 6 has long since broke, I have to line up the setting indicator and put the "Made in Germany" side of the blade tray to the left of the indicator notch. This will align it up as other wise it will be off kilter. For the hole in handle where it is brass, a q-tip fits nicely into it and removes any gunk or water that may be in there from cleaning. The q-tip is also good for getting into crevasses in the base plate. I always brush away from the mounts on the blade tray to not bend or mess up the wires. I then apply the Ballistol to the q-tip and then put it down the brass hole. I also apply it to the top and bottom of the base plate holes and cover the spring as well as the threads on the stem of the blade tray. I can only think about this in detail now as I cleaned both the new and old Futurs.

    Thanks Paul for this extra content, it is down to you entirely that I now have a working Merkur Futur.
    You mentioned in an earlier video that you were going to clean yours and that it broke down into five parts, my one wouldn’t adjust past a setting of 1.5. I disassembled it put the parts in a sonic cleaner to begin with then scrubbed and oiled them and once reassembled it runs as if on bearings. Thanks mate!!😀😀😀😀

      Sean Arter, Check online and you will be able to get a new one for about $55. $7-10 more for the gold one. You will really like the Futur. It was my daily driver for years until my family bought me a Feather ASD2. THAT’S my fave now. But that Merkur is a great choice. Just make sure to clean it once in awhile. Just rinsing it carefully is not enough. Cheers!

    Thank you sir for this informative video. I had my Qshave clone cleaned with ultrasonic cleaner, without knowing how to disassemble it. I found that the "hidden" parts were retaining a lot of gunk. Next time I will have it completely disassembled. Instead of mineral oil, I used silicon grease, which acts as water repellent.

    • @doobotz

      Never tried scrubbing bubbles. I do know that for my Gillette adjusables or like razors it does remove a lot of the internal gunk without disassembly. Also takes care of all external dirt, scum and grime spectacularly. I do use compressed air to completely dry all inside and outside areas.

  • @profesam8457
    @profesam8457 Před 4 lety

    Excellent and useful video. What has always surprised me is thar Merkur does NOT include disassembly or cleaning instructions with their Future razors. Some other options for you to try.... I’m told that Merkur even recommends giving the disassembled parts a brief soak in vinegar. That mildly acidic bath will cut the soap build up quite well. I have also had some luck using mouthwash. I prefer Listerine. With either one you will still want to use your wife or mother-in-law’s tooth brush to cleanse the parts and then lube ‘em. (Ha-ha!). Additionally, I recommend always turning the adjustment to the highest setting (six) after shaving as the razor can seize up when it dries if it is a bit dirty. And if you have left the setting on a mild (one) setting you won’t be able to compress the head sufficiently to unscrew the handle. Trust me. I learned this lesson the hard way! STORE IT ON SIX!

      robert broes, The handle rotates and the bottom plate moves up and down to adjust the blade gap. Those are the movements of primary importance. The spring just maintains internal tension. Very little actual movement once compressed when assembled. Until you attempt to disassemble.
