Very often our reactions come from subconscious mind. Which is also not in our control. Therefore just intellectually telling yourself to be ok never works. You have to heal your subconscious. To do so meditation and devotion to a guru are essential. And the more dharmic you are the more peaceful your subconscious becomes. But of course there might be previous life sins that need to burnt and one must endure knowing that the burning of the bad karma gives you real inner peace rather than avoiding it
