VISIT THE VATICAN'S NEWEST SITE! - the Necropolis of Via Triumphalis

- There is an amazing new archeological site in Vatican City - the Vatican Necropolis at the Via Triumphalis. This is a real City of the Dead - over 1,000 square meters of incredibly intact tombs from Ancient Rome.
These tombs date from the time of Emperor Augustus through to Emperor Constantine and are mostly of ordinary Romans - laborers, artisans, slaves, and freedmen. The site yields incredible insight into the lives of everyday Rome and its people.

Glad it was helpful! Thanks a lot for watching!
Thanks, Elyssa. I saw the video Darius Arya did a few weeks ago. I'm due back in Rome in April. This is definitely on my to do list.
Thanks so much for sharing that, my wife and I are in Rome in mid June and it has given me one more place to try and see when we are there!

Another fantastic video. Thanks Elyssa!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for your comments!
Great scoop, looks very well preserved, best gelato in Roma?
Ha ha! Thanks as always! :)
Nice!
NICE VIDEO
So nice of you!
As usual, Elyssa, an amazing and informative video! As a tour guide myself, I very much appreciate you providing the practical information visitors really need to know.
Based on your advice, I went on the Vatican Museums website, and was able to book tickets for Friday, 19 April. The only time available was 3:30 pm. Am I guessing that's the time that the one tour is held every day? What would you say the max size group they are allowing?
The only thing that was confusing about my booking was that I had to figure out that the tour listing was under 'Archeological Sites' (well, duh) rather than the ticket section for Museums. I'm glad that you told us tickets are only available on Fridays and Saturdays, because that's not mentioned anywhere on the site description (that I could see).
Thanks so much, Nina, for all your kind support! I'm glad you were able to book it! Yeah, I tried to show how to book on the Vatican Museums website, and I selected Archeological areas, but I think even if you choose "Museums", you'd see the Necropolis as available to book when you looked on a Friday or Saturday.
Our group was about 20 people. They only let in one group at a time...I tried to convey that in my video, that we were the only group inside. So it's calm and relaxing. I am sure you're going to love it!
Great.
Excellent new video. Thank you very much for all your advice. I’m trying to find the tickets on the Musei Vaticani web site but it is not performing as shown in your video and does not offer them. Perhaps the tours are not currently on sale?
Actually, searching from a different browser (Safari) I can now see a few slots available, but they are rare.
Thank you so much! First of all, they are not selling tickets to this until mid-March. Second of all, the tour only goes on Fridays and Saturdays. Third, if you are looking more than 60 days out, you will not find it available. I hope that helps!
Yes, there are only 20 spots on each tour and they only go once or twice a day and only Fridays and Saturdays.
Wow amazing video. Not quite relates to this video. But how do you get tickets to visit st peters tomb? I see the option with get your guide, but is there a way to get it directly in the vatican site?
Thanks for your kind comments. For information about how to visit Saint Peter's tomb:
° Watch to the end of the video, I have a link to my video all about that
° Click to expand the description and you will see a playlist, among which you can find my video about this.
° Also in the description, you will find a link to the page on my website where I explain how to get tickets and how to visit
hi! i am wondering that if the Vatican museum stopped doing the prime experience tour that start at 7:30am? i don't see it anymore. Any options that i can do the vatican museum early? thank you!

@@Romewise thank you so much! ❤️
Hello! is there a place to park strollers etc before entry? what age do you think this would be appropriate for as we have a 1 to 13 years old with us.
Hmmm, I don't remember there being any place to store a stroller before entry. Check these vatican museums official pages for more details:
www.museivaticani.va/content/museivaticani/en/organizza-visita/consigli-utili.html
www.museivaticani.va/content/museivaticani/en/organizza-visita/servizi-per-i-visitatori/mv-family-friendly.html
The official site also states this when you go to book your ticket of the Via Triumphalis:
"N.B.: This tour is not recommended for people with walking difficulties and strollers. All children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Visitors are advised to wear appropriate shoes."
Sorry I don't have more specific info. I think your 13-year old will love it, but if you have a 1-year old (did I understand correctly), you may have to carry him/her.
I couldn’t find the ticket on the vatican museum site. Is it still available there? Thanks!
Yes, the tour only runs on Fridays and Saturdays.
Just looked and date in October not bookable. Is this similar to other tickets which aren’t available until 30 days out?
Also….is this tour not included in the St Peter’s tomb tour though the Scavi office?
Have another watch of Elyssa's video: she says the tickets are booked through the Vatican Museums website. So not the Scavi office. I presume, like all other tickets on the Vatican Museums site, they are available 60 days in advance. I just purchased a 3:30 pm ticket for Friday, 19 April.
Yes. That’s where I checked. 60 days ahead? I’ll look then. Thank you.
So this IS different to St Peter’s tomb tour.
Correct
Nina is correct - as I mentioned in the video, this visit is different from the visit to Saint Peter's tomb in almost every way, including where you book it and including the fact that it's not connected to other parts of the Vatican you can visit. And like many Vatican tours, you can't book more than 60 days in advance.
Thanks so much, Nina!
Love your videos. Can’t stop watching them. As a man, can I wear shorts ? I see men wearing shorts inside the basilica. I’ll visit in August.
Thanks for your kind comments! When you see men inside the basilica wearing shorts, those shorts come to their knees. Even then, it's always a risk because you never know if an overly conservative guard will stop you from entering if your knees are not covered. If you want to err on the side of caution, I suggest lightweight linen pants or hiking trousers that have a removable bottom leg.
Is this handicap accessible for wheelchair users?
Unfortunately, no. According to the Vatican website: The archaeological site is not currently accessible for strollers, wheelchair users or visitors with limited mobility.
@Romewise thank you so much for replying and all your videos. Watching them have been so helpful in planning a vacation to Rome, especially to the Vatican, for my wife.
