      Agreed. After so long, sometimes the death of one can take the wind out of your sails.
      Not just because he was an excellent guitarist, but because of what they shared. Team effort, comradery,
      friendship, brotherhood, second family, love and success. Sometimes people cant see beyond that with a
      loss of a friend and for good reason. It hurts.

      Not defending King at all but that's not true. While the best songs were written by Jeff if you go over writing credits it's more like 60/40 and King wrote a lot of good stuff as well. It's not Kerry's fault that Jeff drank himself to death. And if you listen to some recordings of Seasons in the Abyss 10th anniversary tour Jeff was not playing well at all. And I am not talking about mistakes here and there, the entire performance was very bad.

    • @reverendg5937
      @reverendg5937 Před 5 měsíci +4

      @Albee213 I think you are way off on writing credits. Jeff could play, Kerry goes through the motions. Slayer died with Jeff. If Kerry was such a contributor, then why did Slayer come to an immediate end when he died? Because there was no way Kerry was going to step-up and fill those shoes. FACT

    • @joshpelton8068
      @joshpelton8068 Před 4 měsíci +4

      Everything you said is objectively false. Sure Jeff was a stronger songwriter.however Kerry was a more solid rhythm player and he played every single note other than Jeff's solos from the mid 90s on. He wrote WAY more lyrics than anyone else in the band and he was a trooper all the way to the end. Jeff is one of my favorite guitarists and songwriters but his drinking had already started to affect his playing before the spider bite .the arthritis in his body, according to his wife was a direct result of excessive drinking. It's funny how most of the so called fans of slayer have turned against the guy who has tried to keep the band going. But then again, the metal community has been full of followers for as long as I can remember.

Jeff would be disappointed in himself if he messed up.2. people would remember that performance which would be his last as extremely flawed. As someone who has sort of come back from a wrist injury that initially rendered me unable to play for years, I can say that in the 2 months that I've been playing ( after a 6 year forced hiatus) I have noticed several severe deficiencies in my picking.my right wrist and thumb have severe nerve damage .my thumb is bent inward which affects my picking. Also I'm now forced to pick from the elbow ..it's crazy to have a part of your body not respond to what your brain is telling it to do. While I'm glad to play again it still sucks to be so limited.

    Whatever you think of Kerry King as a person or a player is largely irrelevant. The point is, he's been doing this a LONG time.. He knows what it takes to play these songs live. And sometimes when you're immersed in it yourself, you can't make an accurate assessment.. By that I mean you need external assessment to save yourself from yourself (if that makes sense.) For example.. Every athlete at one point thinks he can do it as well as he always could. But often the coach has to bring him down to earth. KK is a little prick but he has the best right hand, along with Hetfield. Jeff wrote 90% of what makes us love Slayer, but he's had problems with his right hand since the 90s. Kerry recorded all the rhythm guitars after the "Seasons In The Abyss" album, and Jeff recorded only his solo.

      Sorry, but no... Jeff was not a gifted guitar player and he even mentionned that K.K was the better guitarist.
      Kerry record all the guitars parts in studio... the picking hand of JH was his weakness. Both are great in their own and they are Slayer

    Makes you wonder. Kerry King is known as an ass and people rightfully criticize him but what about a case like Judas Priest and Glenn Tipton? Halford and the band come off as very nice and heartfelt but how do we know they aren’t the ones who prevent Tipton from doing more? I know he’s not going to be playing Painkiller anymore but maybe there’s something easier he could still play?

    Fuck all of this HATE. That was the VERY thing us young metal heads were AGAINST back in the day. I went to the Sundance Club in Bayshore, NY in 1992 to see the band Death.
    The place could probably hold 300 people safely, but there were always over 400. At that show, there was ONE black dude that showed up to mosh and kick down with the music.
    Every single person in that club cheered him when he got up on the stage to stage dive, and anyone within 2 feet of him hugged him like there was no tomorrow when he landed.
    We were PROUD that "our" music was reaching out.
    My point is...... That music brought people together. No place for finger pointing or hate!!
    Slayer changed my life as a teen in 1984, and I never looked back.
    Slayer has to be considered one of the best Thrash/Death Metal bands of all time.

    The slayer dynamic was a strange one.
    Once they achieved success they splintered.
    It became about buisness.
    And egos….except Tom who was always kind and polite
    Slayer practiced in Anaheim.
    They kept to themselves as slayer fans can be a bit over the top.
    They were nicer to the people at the bar across the street from their rehearsal space then to most people.
    I toured w slayer and barely ever spoke to them .
    If you weren’t part of their core group of people.

    King is a dick but I think he was right here, not for how it would appear to fans if things went badly doing four songs, but about how Jeff would feel about himself if things went badly... I think fans wouldn't care if he just fucking stood there headbanging and throwing picks for four songs, mf is the goat regardless but personal disappointment for someone already going through a rough patch in life would hit harder IMO.
