      Insomniac not equipped for that. They have only really ever done single player games, you would be saying the one studio that would be best is the one who has shown neither the capability or engine to do it? Not likely.

      @@iraford5788 it was great but it is said that behind the scenes, square had to change the game because of The Avengers reception. That already says something about their strategies. It’s the same with Star Wars and EA. The only reason Fallen Order got approved was because people were fed up with how EA was handling micro transactions that they had no choice but to give Respawn a shot at a Single-player only game. Not to mention that that game was also full of bugs and after playing it a lot you can get tired of the gameplay loop. So in that sense Guardians was great but also not that well received either. The story and the writing was great because they do understand the source material but again, the gameplay left a lot to be desired.

    I don’t think a marvel gaming universe needs to be done. Just do AAA marvel games that are high quality and feel different from each other. If the studios stick to that, then it will never get old and they can keep going with the IP’s

    If all the Marvel games were under one developer I could possibly seeing it work (yes Marvel Games is in charge but they're on the publishing side) but no way this can work with how many different hands involved.
    Even if it was happening, I wouldn't want to. This desire to have everything be like the MCU is just exhausting, some things should be what they are and not connect.

  • @joshuacameron5333
    @joshuacameron5333 Před 2 lety +3

    I don’t think there is any way to do a full MCU style game-verse. But you could do some smaller versions of that. And both of these ideas center around Insomniac.
    Idea 1: work up towards a spider-verse game. You already have Peter and Miles as Spider-Men in the same universe. We know Venom is coming. And you could easily tease the Multiverse opening up in Spider-Man 2. With Spider-Gwen or Spider-Man 2099 coming through. Then, just like you had a Miles Morales spin-off, you do a Venom and Spider-Gwen spin-off leading to Spider-Man 3, which is a full blown Spider-Verse game. Leading to potentially more spin-offs.
    Idea 2: you already have Spider-Man and you have Wolverine coming, you are halfway to a Defenders game. Defenders are sort of a non-team team, a group of individuals with their own agendas who come together for a short time to fight a bigger threat. There is already precedence for Spider-Man and wolverine being part of the secret defenders in the comic world. You can easily introduce daredevil in a Spider-Man game, then do a spin off daredevil game and him being a lawyer easily connects to She-Hulk who is also a lawyer (and potentially Hulk). Now you have two more pretty traditional “Defenders” and 4 total characters leading to a Defenders game. And then afterwards all 4 characters can continue on in their own worlds until one day you bring them back together.
    So no I don’t think you can re-create the MCU in video games I do think you could do some fun things with comic book worlds. In both of these ideas insomniac would be making both of these worlds and he would only need Sony to invest for them to build out another team or two because they already have three teams and it wouldn’t take that long to build up to either a spider-verse game or a defenders game. 5-10 years, all under 1 studio and 1 publisher.

    To Greg’s point, seeing as how the DCEU was such a let down for a lot of fans and has mostly been critically panned save for a few films like Shazam, Wonderwoman, and Aquaman, I think an interconnected game universe would be a good route for DC to go. We already have the MCU, I don’t think we really need a large scale interwoven Marvel Games universe whereas DC could really benefit from it. That being said, seeing Insomniac play around with other characters like Daredevil, The Human Torch, and Wolverine would be awesome and those games could definitely fall under the same universal umbrella without feeling like too much of a burden for Marvel Games to handle and without feeling like we’re rehashing the MCU in another medium

    As a black man myself, I disagree with Blessing's point that there HAS to be black writers in order for the BP game to be great. Great writing and ability has little to do with race. I don't care what race the writers are, as long as the quality is top notch and they do their proper research and due diligence. Doing a great job is not dependent on race -_-

    • @BarrettCourtney
      @BarrettCourtney Před 2 lety +3

      But didn’t the movie benefit from having black writers and a black director because they understand more of what the experience of black people are and were able to use that to insert great commentary into the film that definitely wouldn’t have been the same with white writers/director?
      As a white dude I would be uncomfortable with white people leading the writing and directing of this game because if they try to make any sort of commentary on a black person’s experience it’s gonna come off as disingenuous. Killmonger is a top tier MCU antagonist because the writers actually knew the experience, frustrations, and dreams of a black kid from Oakland. If the game wants to have the same level of commentary, I personally think having another white dude write it would be a weird choice.
      (Also not to mention the lack of diversity and voices in the industry already. It’s not just for goofs when Blessing shares a character creator that has terrible a limited options for making a black character)

    • @Gailardia_Galan
      @Gailardia_Galan Před 2 lety +3

      @@BarrettCourtney Great writing is not dependent on race. Just because someone is black, white, Asian, etc, does NOT mean they are a great writer.
      A great writer uses their resources, speaks to different people/races to get different perspectives, learns about different cultures, etc. The main reason I do not agree with this is because this will eventually become "Only this race can write about this race". So only black people can write about black people? If I was a black writer, I would like to try and write many different types of characters, not just my race. How am I supposed to grow? Learn different techniques?
      I simply do not like this box being put on creativity. Yes, BP is a great movie but the way I see it....it is a great movie because the people involved were incredibly talented and also happened to be black, not because they were black and happened to be talented. And I would love to see them use their creative talents that goes outside of just making "black works", if that is what they choose to do.
      To your point about it coming across as disingenuous, that does not make sense to me. So it comes across as disingenuous when female actors write and voice male parts? How about vice versa? That is a extremely dangerous way of thinking in my opinion.

    I think an MCU within games could be good, however I kind of like the Marvel games being individual. What If..? showed me that I like individual story telling a lot more than I thought I did, and there's a lot of comics out there that are impossible to explore within the MCU at this point, I don't need it all to be tied together to enjoy it when we could instead get a separate story that may or may not feature characters from other games that aren't actually from those games.

    You can absolutely have all Marvel (or any IP) games take place in the same universe. The complication is getting them all to build up to something big like the first MCU movies did to Avengers, then to Infinity War, etc. -- and you don't have to do that. Just treat it like the comics -- all of these unique adventures are happening independently of one another. If they happen to cross over at some point, great.
    As for breaking canon, do be cognizant of stepping on things that have been said in other games, but don't let that get in your way of telling a good story and doing what's best for your game, unless it's an earth-shattering moment everyone will notice. 99% of players won't notice, and of that 1% who do, 99% won't care. There are countless such moments in Marvel comics continuity, not to mention Fox's X-Men films.

    I think Blessing overrates Shadows of Mordor/War. I think those games are decent. Mordor gets overrated because it came out in a huge next-gen drought year of 2014, the same year that Dragon Age Inquisition won GOTY which is also not that great but that year was barren so we overrate good games as great. Or decent/okay games as good.

      @GuyInCLE one “interesting” and not fully realized system does not a great game make. They are decent games, they aren’t great.

    To answer the thumbnail, yes...but it should be mutiplatform, multi-publisher, multi-genre with a team from marvel overseeing the creation of each to ensure there are overarching threads being adhered to

      @@ghostofneworleans4511 so because sony has done a good job with spiderman they get all of marvel? Kind of narrows all marvel games down to third person action adventure. If I want that I'll go to the movies.

      @@NM-sb9co I'm not denying they make great games in the third person action adventure genre. I'm saying I don't think a one size fits all works for all marvel games. Also, having all of them tied to Sony is so limiting in potentially reaching a larger audience and could limit the types of games you could get. Wanting exclusive licensed games is a very fanboy approach to take. It's one of the reasons I'm hoping Indian Jones is multiplatform instead of xbox exclusive. I don't want to need to spend over 1000 dollars to be able to play games that should be available everywhere. You might have that money, not everyone does.

    The dream scenario for me would be Sony continuing to make great Marvel games now and into the future and Xbox gets a deal to make great DC games, and the third party game companies (EA,Ubisoft,ex) make DC and Marvel games for the lesser known heroes.

    no cuz they probably will F it up. what are we using as an example? the spiderman and upcoming wolverine games? first u need to figure out what kind of game ur making cuz if ur gonna do a team up a single player action adventure game isnt gonna work out unless u do something like guardians of the galaxy and even then u need to balance around all those different characters and abilities. do u change it into a rpg? turn based rpg? real time rpg? do u let it he multiplayer? it would be a nightmare to do as a game developer. marvel avengers was ass and guardians was okay story wise but combat was dull especially when u controlled on 1 character and spammed "abilities". not to mention how long it takes to make one great game. are u gonna have a bunch of different studios? cuz no way in hell a single dev team can do it. even the size of Bethesda and all their studios i dont think they can assure quality with a consistent pace. u gonna have a bunch of mid games. some janky crappy ones. maybe 1 amazing gem. Lile the mcu movies. not all of the content of the mcu are top quality. u still get a thor, hulk, hawkeye, avengers 2, antman 2, etc

    WB and DC seem to not really care about their legacy when it comes to games. Absolutely no support for Batman Arkham since those games were released. No new gen upgrades, no remasters, etc. Gotham knights looks like a 7 at best and suicide squad still looks pretty far off. What are they doing over there?

    It could work if so sony had 1st party studios working on it but looking at how avengers turned out and then having no hope on the EA BP open world because its EA and they might want the micro the shit out of it.
