The tremendous ingenuity of the human race never ceases to amaze me. Never thought I would hear an acapella version of Toto's Africa. Amazing piece of art. Thanks for the reaction.

My mom was a choir director at church and I was around a lot when they practiced for Christmas cantatas. The finished product was always amazing.
Whoever put this arrangement together is terrific.

I wish I had a sliver of the imagination that it takes to put an arrangement, like this, together. So awesome.

Hi, Sam and Phil! Glad you've found Perpetuum Jazzile (or PJ to their fans), an acapella group from the tiny Eastern European country of Slovenia, and who are quite well known throughout southern and Eastern Europe. This particular video comes from their huge annual show they call Vokal Xtravaganzza. This particular show was in 2008. Their most recent Vokal Xtravaganzza, to which they performed four sold-out shows, marked their 40th anniversary as a group. Being a 40-year old group, they have quite a catalog, featuring a mix of live performances and music videos in many different genres of music. They have also released CD's and DVD's, as well. As for suggestions as to what else to react to of theirs, I suggest their cover of Michael Jackson's "Will You Be There," a tribute to Michael shortly after his death. This performance also hearkens back to their roots as a chamber choir. They also covered another Toto hit, "Rosanna." (Fun fact: During a concert in Italy, Toto was aware that PJ was in attendance at that concert and invited the members of PJ up on stage to perform "Africa" with them). For a music video, I would consider their video featuring a medley of Abba hits or, if you're really adventurous, their cover of the Slovenian song, "Cudna Noc" (pronounced Choodna Noch; English translation: "Strange Night"). Whatever you choose, enjoy!

I love this version of "Africa"... I've loved it for years ever since I heard it and heard of Perpetuum Jazzile. There's a similar choir I'd like you to check out, it's also a cappella choir called Viva Vox and they do some great covers, like "Ameno" by Era or even The Prodigy medley. I think you might find them equally satisfying.

This group does a great rendition of Toto's "Rosanna" and they also did a great ABBA mashup. It's also my understanding that mostly everyone in this group isn't English speaking but mostly Eastern European. But you wouldn't know it though.

    • @iris67si

PJ is an a capella choir from SLOVENIA. English language is their second language. And Slovenia is NOT an Eastern European country btw. You lack of knowledge in geography and history is eminent.

Never heard of them Wiki says up to 50 members. So we can pay the band $2,000. so $40 each? Makes for a tough gig some nights I bet! I still like the original more but this was great any way's. Cheers.

No they weren't. This is ORIGINAL a capella version PJ sung more than 15 years ago, on America's got a Talent show were some imposters copied them and presented the version as their own.
