  • Free Libraries are popping up everywhere. These decorative boxes are in front yards all over offering books to borrow and share.
    Because these libraries will be exposed to the elements, the wood has got to be protected, especially if plywood is used like this one. I used several coats of good quality exterior paint, beveled the bottom edges to keep water from collecting on the bottom edges, and I made sure the box is water tight.

    You have so much more patience than I do! I totally would’ve just routed those line for the bricks, hit em with that white spray paint, and used a roller to get the red on real light so it didn’t drip down. The end result of using the tape and individually painting each brick with the tape looks so good though!

    Wonderful project Rob.
    I can see making one of these to put next to our community mailbox in our subdivision.
    Thanks for taking the time to record and upload :)
    Cheers from Nova Scotia

    Rob, you have always been multi talented. Love the music and the library! I'm sending this to hubs because I need shingles on mine. What kind of wood did you use? Of course, he's going to be way jealous of your shop. Please post a video of her surprise reaction and your installation and grand opening. And welcome to the wonderful world of Little Free Libraries!

      Carole Gentry Thank you, Carole. I used a piece of 2 x 3/4 cedar from Home Depot, but if I could do it over, I would use 3 x 3/4 cedar instead and make the shingles bigger. I will definitely follow up with an installation video. Don't let hub be jealous, go buy him some tools!

    Great build! Do you have the plans in a pdf?

    • @FranklinWoodWorks2016
      @FranklinWoodWorks2016  Před 6 lety +2

      Nope. I never do plans because, to be honest, I don't think too much about things before I start to build them. Sometimes they turn out good, like this one, sometimes disaster. But I think I showed enough of HOW I built it, that you should be able to come up with your own dimensions and you own flare to make a great project. I'd love to see the final results!

    Do you have plans for this one ?

    • @FranklinWoodWorks2016
      @FranklinWoodWorks2016  Před 3 lety +2

      Apologies, but I do not. I built it on the fly, with no real idea of how it would turn out. I got lucky. I can't even give you dimensions. It is about 60 miles away in someone's front yard.
