"There's nothing magic in the blood of Christ..." | Pastor Reacts to John MacArthur

  • John MacArthur makes a fundamental error in trying to draw a hard line between the importance of the blood of Christ and the death of Christ. Is this line of thinking correct according to the scriptures? * We do not desire to degrade the man, but we seek to point out the error in the things he teaches contrary to scripture. *

      From John Macarthur
For some strange reason people have accused me of denying the blood of Christ, which is not so. I affirm that a literal Jesus Christ who was man in every respect, one hundred percent man yet God incarnate, died on the cross, shed His literal blood as a sacrifice for sin. And I believe that, and I believe that it was that sacrificial death of Christ on the cross that atoned for the sins of man, and those who believe appropriate that atonement and receive eternal life through His death and resurrection, and that's historic Christian theology.

@@Sherlock245 You speak for John MacArthur? I watched the video and am not happy with the way he addressed this subject. He should have said, "Jesus had to die, not just spill a little blood. It was His death on the cross that gave His split blood the power to cleanse us from all sin." Had he said that, there wouldn't have been an issue. Sometimes our words fail us, but God never fails us and His words are Spirit and Life. John 6:63

P.S. I like MacArthur and follow him, but don't agree with everything he says. He is only a man, and man is not perfect, only God is. We are only supposed to put our trust in God alone, and test every spirit.

Jesus Christ of Nazareth was born at : MICAH 4:8 ,,,,, " TOWER OF THE FLOCK " = MIGDOL EDER.
      Micah 4:8
      8. And thou, O tower of the flock, the strong hold of the daughter of Zion, unto thee shall it come, even the first dominion; the kingdom shall come to the daughter of Jerusalem.
MIGDOL EDER was where the Temple Lambs were birthed for temple sacrifices.
The whole traditional Nativity narrative is wrong.
The term " NO ROOM AT THE INN " was not because there was no vacancy at the inn.
Joseph's relatives and the town's inn did not have any proper , Kosher " CLEAN ROOM " for a proper Hebrew Jewish culture birth.
People forget that this is Israel and there were strict laws about being Kosher and Moses laws about the issue of blood and fluids coming from the birthing process.
Joseph and Mary didn't just show up at his relatives house unannounced.
He must have given prior notice being respectful towards his older relatives.
The BIBLE says " AFTER THOSE DAYS WERE ACCOMPLISHED, SHE GAVE BIRTH " ,,,,, Mary did not give give birth showing up unannounced as soon as they got into Bethlehem according to the traditional Nativity narrative.
They at least been there 3 days before she gave birth to Jesus Christ.
Their family was NOT some poor peasents as we are told.
Both sides of Jesus Christ's family came from a Priestly Royal family.
At best they were upper middle class line of a very educated priestly family with Joseph being the building management mantaince guy for the temple.
The only " CLEAN ROOM " proper for birthing that was : KOSHER and cerimonlal clean according to Moses's Laws was a place called : MIGDOL EDER : MICAH 4:8 - GENESIS 35 : 16-21
Rachel gives birth to Benjamin and dies.
      16. And they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour.
      17. And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.
      18. And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.
      19. And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.
      20. And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel's grave unto this day.
      21. And Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar.
There was before the Law of Moses and the Tabernacle and the Temple Periods.
MIGDOL EDER ( or EDAR )
In the temple periods was where the newborn infent lambs where birthed at for temple sacrifices.
After they were born these lambs were wrapped in torn up strips old priestly inner white garments ( the very same strips that Mary saved for Jesus's burial strips around the shroud ) and these newborn infant lambs were placed in the hewnout stone MANGER to keep them from kicking and thrashing to prevent them from injuries.
When the angels told the ( HIGHLY TRAINED TEMPLE LEVITICAL PRIESTLY SHEPARDS ) Shepards in the field about Jesus Christ being born in Bethlehem wrapped in SWADDLING STRIPS ? ,,,,, They knew exactly where to go and what it meant " BEHOLD THE LAMB OF GOD WHO TAKES AWAY THE SINS OF THE WORLD "

He preaches a perverted message of works salvation. Not the free gift by a one time faith alone apart from any works for the Gift of God. Romans 6:23. John 3:16. Faith alone. John 6:47. God said. Blood represents a figurative cleansing (washing), from a perfect or unspotted sacrifice. But animal sacrifices point to the human sacrifice of Christ, because it had to be a sinless human to take away sins from the rest of sinful humanity. Christ shed His literal blood and we receive the benefits - forgiveness of sins. We are not literally being washed by His literal blood, but due to the literal shedding of His blood, we receive the benefits upon accessing His grace through faith.

It is Jesus who saves. That is why He is called the Savior. Cleansing of His blood for our sin is one of the consequences of believing in and on Jesus as God and Savior for everlasting life. Other consequences are: we become new creatures in Christ, God becomes our Father, we become God's children, we receive the gift of everlasting life, all sins are forgiven, we receive Jesus' Righteousness, and we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

There are s many scriptures that point to the shedding of his blood and yes, Jesus paid our wage of sin which was death but the life was in his blood , his perfect sacrifice that superseded the temporary payment of the blood of animals because he was 💯 holy.

Brother, you said it so perfectly. The shedding of blood is what causes the death, and Jesus was the final sacrifice. I'm not trying to get into a Calvinist discussion, but it has been rearing it's ugly head where I am. When I try to point them to verses like 1 John 2:2 when they say that Jesus didn't die for the world (also see John 3:16, and Revelation 3 "Behold...I stand at the door and knock, if ANYONE hears my voice"). I have read through the New Testament, and I cannot understand how people get stuck on and elevate the writings of Paul as supreme to everything else.
I recently felt led to read each book written by the Apostle John - The one whom Jesus loved (Gospel of John, 1-3 John, and The Revelation of Jesus Christ). In 1st John, it tells us exactly how to live as Christians. We are to believe in the command of the Father, which is to love the one He sent (i.e. Jesus Christ), and Jesus Christ's command for us is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, and strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself. We are to be feeding, clothing, equipping the poor and less fortunate, as well as the orphans and widows. We are to be helping everyone, not building larger church buildings, but I digress.
The thing I've noticed lately is that so many established Christian churches and their pastors are falling into error. They seem to want to cause controversy, enrich themselves, and beat their chests to say "I'm right, you're wrong" and to confuse the masses as the profound simplicity of belief/faith in Jesus Christ's finished work (1 Cor. 15:1-4, John 3, Romans 10, 1 John). The arguments these pastors, and pastor, I'm not saying this to you, are divisive, and the love of Christ is not in them. I cannot fathom how a pastor could not say that the blood of Jesus has nothing to do with salvation. The legalism some portray is mindblowing.

If Jesus was under so much stress in Gethsemane He literally sweat blood because of the task set before Him praying fervently like no other prayer ever offered up to God "If it be thy will let this cup pass from Me, nevertheless not My will but Thine be done. DO you for one moment believe there was another way for Jesus Christ to buy us back? Yet if the spilling of blood without the intense suffering for our sins and death were the issue then James Harrison czcams.com/video/DIJ8H202QFw/video.html is the world record blood donor @ ~ 495 gallons of blood and he really did not suffer in any real painful manner to donate all that blood. If the spilling of blood alone was the issue then Jesus could have simply filled up bottles and bottles of His blood over time then spilled it on the ground. However then exactly what meaning would that have? The blood on the doorposts in the Exodus was evidence that an animal was slain for the firstborn and it stopped dead the destroyer from coming in. Yet without the sacrifice and pain of death what good would the blood be though it would be the blood of God incarnated into a sinless human. The suffering was the propitiation and the expiation without which I really do not believe the blood had that much meaning.

    @richardmanning7601 Před 2 dny +1

The phrase “blood of Christ” is used several times in the New Testament and is the expression of the sacrificial death and full atoning work of Jesus on our behalf. References to the Savior’s blood include the reality that He literally bled on the cross, but more significantly that He bled and died for sinners. The blood of Christ has the power to atone for an infinite number of sins committed by an infinite number of people throughout the ages, and all whose faith rests in that blood will be saved.
The reality of the blood of Christ as the means of atonement for sin has its origin in the Mosaic Law. Once a year, the priest was to make an offering of the blood of animals on the altar of the temple for the sins of the people. “In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness” (Hebrews 9:22). But this was a blood offering that was limited in its effectiveness, which is why it had to be offered again and again. This was a foreshadowing of the “once for all” sacrifice which Jesus offered on the cross (Hebrews 7:27). Once that sacrifice was made, there was no longer a need for the blood of bulls and goats.
The blood of Christ is the basis of the New Covenant. On the night before He went to the cross, Jesus offered the cup of wine to His disciples and said, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you” (Luke 22:20). The pouring of the wine in the cup symbolized the blood of Christ which would be poured out for all who would ever believe in Him. When He shed His blood on the cross, He did away with the Old Covenant requirement for the continual sacrifices of animals. Their blood was not sufficient to cover the sins of the people, except on a temporary basis, because sin against a holy and infinite God requires a holy and infinite sacrifice. “But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins” (Hebrews 10:3). While the blood of bulls and goats were a “reminder” of sin, “the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect” (1 Peter 1:19) paid in full the debt of sin we owe to God, and we need no further sacrifices for sin. Jesus said, “It is finished” as He was dying, and He meant just that-the entire work of redemption was completed forever, “having obtained eternal redemption” for us (Hebrews 9:12).
Not only does the blood of Christ redeem believers from sin and eternal punishment, but “His blood will make our consciences pure from useless acts so we may serve the living God” (Hebrews 9:14 NCV). This means that not only are we now free from having to offer sacrifices which are “useless” to obtain salvation, but we are free from having to rely on worthless and unproductive works of the flesh to please God. Because the blood of Christ has redeemed us, we are now new creations in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), and by His blood we are freed from sin to serve the living God, to glorify Him, and to enjoy Him forever. .gotquestions.org

Much more then, having now been justified aby His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him" (Rom 5:8-9).

"The innocent blood of Messiah unto death is the cost exacted by lawlessness," Gregg. The shedding of blood means killing someone. If someone says you have blood on your hands, it means you are responsible for their death not that you have the actual blood on your hands. So it's an equivalency. I think this is where McArthur is coming from.

JM opinion on the matter obviously got twisted.
    1. He's right about the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ: it's not magical. Not a dna extra or less. It's not supernatural. Why?
He's human. That's why. He had to be, if He's to assume the role of a Kinsman Redeemer! He's no kinsman if his blood isn't as ours.
    2. What sets his human blood apart (again, not in the sense extra supernatural) is this: innocence. It is untainted by human sin.
His blood is innocent enough to pay for the guilty.
    3. Quoting "Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sin" to mean the blood that trickles down is enough to save has failed to acknowledge the demand of the Law: death.
Nowhere in the OT did the priests plug the wound of the animal since enough blood was shed - the animal is then released. No, the shedding drains the animals dry.
"Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man his blood will be shed; for in His own image God has made mankind." Gen 9:6
    4. Life is in the blood. Indeed.
    So life for life.
