As a Laker fan of 21 years they’re run different and not in good ways either. Still been back to being a playoff team but outside of 2020 haven’t really put together championship caliber teams. You are very wrong about LBJ not having playmaking around him. D’lo and Reaves are 2ndary playmakers due to LBJ choosing to dominate the ball. Every time LBJ is out, D’lo or Reaves put up 10+ assists, and all the Lakers players admitted that the ball moves better when he was out, but LBJ has become a better teammate since the all star break, and is moving the ball and playing well off ball. Most Lakers fans are aware of all of this. Lakers without LBJ have about the same win percentage as with him, so this LBJ needs help narrative is silly. Your stats have little context. LBJ off the floor when he started the game is very different from LBJ off the floor when he didn’t even dress for the game.

    • @Eastra3
      @Eastra3 Před měsícem

@@postiebikeracer Spurs also have room for Trae's skill-set, where Lakers just want extra star power, whether the fit is janky or not. I was thinking that if the Spurs could get an elite point guard or elite bigman in the draft, they would be 1 step closer to returning to form under Pops. I say this, because I think that although the league has gone to smaller stretch forwards, they are usually smaller, not because smaller and faster is inherently better in the trend of the NBA, but because they are playing larger SFs at the 4 spot. Whenever you get a legit PF that can shoot and rebound, its the best of both worlds. I think, like AD, Wemby is going to be better suited at the PF. If Spurs were to get a Robinson type center, if there is even a prospect like him at the top of this upcoming draft, they could resurrect the Duncan / Robinson 'Twin Towers', and with Trae being similar to Tony Parker in quickness, Spurs would really have something. The league is starting to size up a bit at the PF spot, because you have teams like the Nuggets and T-Wolves, who have big front courts. If Wemby could add 25 lbs, he could probably match-up against any center, but if he's like AD, that added weight may mess up his health and game. I also look at how AD gets shoved under the rim by Jokic, and Spurs might not want to build a team that is inherently at a disadvantage to Jokic and the Nuggets, because they aren't going away anytime soon.

I think Trae Young would actually fit in with Wemby pretty well. Also, going to the Lakers for 1 season with LeBron, maybe with hopes of being the face of the franchise after LBJ, it's as good as it sounds. He's already the face of a franchise and that's not enough, no 1 player can carry a team alone. Sure, that 1 season with LeBron might be enough to get a ring but there's no guarantee.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Bron and Oscar Robertson are not the only players to ever average 27/7/7 between the ages of 24-29. Jokic did that 2 seasons ago at the age of 27 and Luka has done that every single season of his career except as a rookie. This is his 5th season in a row doing that and his second season between 24-29. Russel Westbrook also did that at 26 and 28. Unless you mean the whole 6 year span of ages 24-29 in which case fair enough. For now, Luka is still doing that although we’ll see if that holds for another 4 seasons.

The Lakers already learned the hard way that a 3rd superstar + no depth isn't going to get it done. The current record they have this year is due to the damage Ham did to the team during their December run. That and if the Lakers had the same record they currently have this year, last year, they'd be a Top4-5 team in the West currently. And if Darvin Ham didn't lose his mind for 3 weeks and playing people like Cam Reddish and Taurean Prince extended minutes and keeping DLO, Reaves, etc on the bench with extremely short leashes.. the Lakers would currently have 5 more wins at minimum and would be a top 4-5 team currently.
The Lakers problem was Darvin Ham not going to what everyone knew worked from last year and wasting a portion of the season trying to do everything except what we knew worked. Now that he's finally going to what worked, the Lakers have gone on a run and if not for the mid December to mid January run of bad ideas from Ham, the Lakers wouldn't even be in the play-in.
The Lakers don't need to put their future and their 3 first round picks for Trae and one year of LeBron and then absolutely no future after that for another 4-5 seasons where they'll barely even have a draft pick. Thanks but no thanks to that. The team already struggled defensively and you want to take away more depth and now ask Trae to be a defender? No thanks. The Lakers currently since Darvin Ham put out the lineup of
    DLO
    Reaves
    Hachimura
    LeBron
    AD
Have been the #1 Offense in the League. They don't need "more offense" they need better defensive strategy and they need Vando to come back. Adding Trae 'fixes' a problem the Lakers don't have and would just add more offense to whats already been the #1 ranked Offense with that lineup, and even less defense, and no depth whatsoever. That'd be a HUGE mistake. The Lakers need to spend money on getting more wing defenders that can defend from 2-4 and hit the three consistently, NOT "third stars" that kill depth and play no defense.
We can stop with the "LeBron needs more help" narrative. Since we went with that new starting lineup across that 25 game stretch the starters numbers are as follows.
    D'Angelo Russell

That's PLENTY of help in the starting lineup. Their bench has been whom has underperformed as of late, sometimes even needing the starters to carry them through entire games whilst the bench puts up single digits. So it's VERY CLEAR that LeBron has enough help from the starters, you can't even say "LeBron needs more playmakers" when he has two guys averaging 6.4 assists beside him, and AD averaging 3.1. Their bench is where the step-up needs to happen, and their bench has an injured Gabe Vincent just coming back, Christian Wood out for the year, and Vando awaiting to return from injury. So that kind of stuff factors into it. Of course this doesn't fit the 'narrative' that LeBron needs more from the starters, but it's what's actually going on. It'd be nice to see that actually reflected in the analysis that actually looks at trajectory instead of going with a narrative that can be debunked with 5-10 minutes of research.

Trae is a much better fit with LeBron and AD than Mitchell... Mitchell is a volume scorer/gunner (but an impactful one like Kobe, Westbrook, Rose, Iverson, Pierce, Vince Carter, and TMac) whereas Trae is a great shooter and pure point guard (a hybrid of Nash and Curry), which makes him fit well with both of their play styles (AD is great for lobs and running P&R and LeBron creates open looks for shooters and made the weak supporting casts of his first Cavs run look GOOD, like Gibson, Hickson, Anthony Parker, Jamario Moon, etc., he even helped Mo Williams become an All Star, albeit as an injury reserve, despite his true ceiling being a 6th man off the bench on a good team, like he was on the Clippers and Blazers. LeBron was just THAT good to make him and Jamison work as #2 options for a while). Both of their defense is bad, but Mitchell just gives me vibes of Westbrook and Melo with them, only in his prime. Mitchell's best fit is probably staying in Cleveland (Garland is a REAL PG and Allen and Mobley are great rim protection for the lack of D of him and Garland, as well as P&R/lob threats), unless Brunson doesn't mind being the #2 option again. I know LeBron played with JR Smith and Clarkson in his second Cavs run, but they knew their roles as 6th man gunners, similar to Jamal Crawford and Lou Williams (none of those four would take you to the playoffs as your best player, which is why I lumped Mitchell with the likes of Kobe and Iverson and not JR Smith), so they mainly ran the 2nd unit while LeBron rested most of the time.

Just the opposite. The Lakers have a ton of playmaking ability in the backcourt in D-lo and Reaves, but LeBron is known to have such high usage that he lowers the stats of playmaking guards on his team. This has been the case through his entire career. Vogel actually moved him to point guard for this very reason, and that resulted in a championship. This season's Lakers are lacking on defense more than offense, and adding an offense only player like Trae won't make that any better. LeBron in many ways is playing much like a higher usage Dejounte Murray, which we see playing with Trae didn't work out well. Yes, LeBron adds the post-up element, so maybe that changes things a lot. But the analogy holds, as Trae was supposed to turn into this off-ball Curry clone, and he didn't. Kyrie plays well off-ball, so he fit with LeBron, even if Kyrie wasn't happy about it. Trae doesn't fit well at all.

MJ won 6 rings with barely 1 all-star on the team. Kobe won 2 rings with Pau who is not even in TOP75 all-time.
But LeBron had multiple all-stars, TOP5 players at the time and future hall of famers on the teams and still failed consistently - often disappearing during the minutes when it mattered the most. And then he calls himself the greatest of all time. Clown
