The photographer who took her pictures for free is amazing to have given her that opportunity. How proud would it to feel to know that your kind actions gave a girl of poverty such a rare opportunity because she saw her potential
The real question is, did she actually got paid from them for using her photos in their ads? That’s not clear.
This bbc story is misleading. The guy who took her pictures, not just took pictures and videos but also set up her Instagram account. He is a popular Hollywood actor named Robert Hoffman. He discovered her to her pictures and videos and created her Instagram account and approached several people for her photo shoots and promoted her. He is still managing her. He is the one who got her this brand deal and this campaign is at least six months old. She doesn’t live in slums anymore, Robert is managing her still and helping her come out. Robert Hoffman is known for his movies She is the man and a step up 2 if you have seen these movies. It is incredible that guy is still helping her and no story mentions him. I don’t know why they do not give credit to him. It is to create a narrative that a person living in a slum could make decisions to come out of poverty which is far from reality. She was living in slums 12 years old had no idea what she can do in the world to take her out of the situation, if it was not for that Hollywood actor who helped her she would have never had the opportunity. It is taking away the struggle that these people face on daily basis and people like her it is doing the service to them.. it enrages me how media portrays and twists things to set narratives. She did nothing, she could not unless she had help. And he should be mentioned to inspire people to help these people.

But the plus point is she will stay relevant and viral if her pictures are used by other modelling agencies. And just cause she is from slums, doesn’t mean she is ignorant. My guess is this is just a shoot for a local brand. It's not like she's got a contract with Este Lauder or something like that. With that said, I don't like the way the dad was talking. He said, "I want them to see us, understand us. Know who we are." Us??? Bro, nobody cares about you. He should have replaced "us" with "you".
Here's the reality; the family probably doesn't know anything about how to negotiate a contract and unless a real pro quickly steps in to represent them, they'll probably be taken advantage of by some unscrupulous person. And a pro won't step in unless this girl gets a big enough contract for it to be worth it.
My guess is nothing much will come of her career. She clearly doesn't have the height to be a runway model, but I wish her nothing but the best. With the number of followers she has, she could parlay that into money. Again, someone who knows what they're doing could negotiate on her behalf. Let's say she does indeed get 1 million followers. Someone could go to a larger brand and ask them to give her $5K every time she posts with their brand in it. Again, I wish her nothing but the best.

There are products that do this, but buying one on your own and using it is your own fault, you should be consulting a professional. That person should either advise products that do not do this or if you are in need of a product like this is should be used in serious moderation and exactly as told. The big issue is people after often sold the wrong thing by sales people to make money or don't do any research themselves.

Yes I am concerned of the same thing, it actually breaks my heart into pieces. She has signed into deals and if we all new about this earlier we could have boosted her socials and made her a multi millionaire and she would never have to step into that evil industry, watched some of her vids that are 2yrs later and she said she finally has a room which makes no sense at all? She can definitely be a model and has an amazing energy and personality but the modeling industry is very exploitative and dark. Omg, seeing her on an ad in India actually made me tear up. I'm a similar skin tone as her and let me tell you, it's no surprise that she got discovered by a Western photographer because only the lightest Indian models are used in India. They're historically more likely to use a white person on their ads than a medium skinned Indian person, particularly if it's a woman. That's amazing that everyone there can see a girl on ads who actually looks like them

It's always good to be safe and aware, but this photographer got just normal general headshots which maleesha uses.
