  • Step 1: Rotate Engine so No.1 cylinder is on TDC
Step 2: Remove Distributor and rotate rotor so it is pointing at the No.1 Cylinder
Step 3: With the point gap set at 0.20 rotate the distributor base clockwise until the points begin to open. Then lock the distributor down with the (2) 9/16 bolts
Step 4: Install plug wires 1-2-4-3 starting with No.1 directly under where the rotor is pointing and work your way around clock wise.
Hopefully this video can help anyone who is confused. If you have any questions drop them in the comments. Thanks

Good video but your advice won’t work on my sons WD he has a magneto and it does not have a vertical one everything is horizontal

I don’t have a tractor with a magneto to show you, so my advice is to buy a IT Manual and follow the instructions.

Totally wrong. Top dead is found with plug out, finger over plug hole. Align timing marks. Turn key on but do not crank over. Pull coil wire out of distributor cap and hold close to ground. Rotate distributor back a little then turn slowly till you have a spark at the coil wire. Perfectly timed, tighten distributor and you're done. It's that easy.

Thanks for your input! but since your way is just so much better than mine go ahead and make a video on it so everyone knows how your way is Totally Right.

@EvanHeady 60+ years as a journeyman mechanic, lol. I have a professional video lady that's ready. Want to do starters, generators, alternators, motors, carburetors, transmissions, differentials, and front end alignment. I'm 76 now so I kinda doubt if I'll get it all done.

What's the best way to turn engine over? My Massey 444 has no hand crank.
