If you build a solar collector, but orient it to the NORTH. You use an antifreeze/water mix and run it at night, you can run a freezer down to -40F. Next to that you can have a refrigerator and cold/dry storage.
Try planting the THREE SISTERS, (CORN, BEANS, SQUASH), as growing them together helps one with the other.

Just a thought. When you go to any of those food stores, that dry bean aisle, is also a seed aisle. Compare the cost of a 2lb bag of dry beans vs a packet of bean seed. Now you won't know if they are pole or bush, or the exact cultivar, but, they are beans, which means they are seed. Eat or can some, and plant the rest. Whether in actual rows, to as a covercrop. I can easily plant like an acre or two, from a typical grocery store, without going to the "garden center". There is seed or plantable stuff, all over the place. Pet aisle (sunflowers, corn, bird seed mix etc), Dry beans, Fresh produce (tomatoes etc), spices (jars of whole seed such as fennel etc). Just need to walk around with a different set of mental glasses.

When preparing shelving for canned goods in jars, remember you should never stack the jars. You can lose so much food from broken seals if you stack them.

Two things you may want to think about. 1 - Propane powered refrigerators/freezers are actually much more efficient than electrically powered versions. 2 - It may not be financially viable, but have you thought about a freeze dryer? Great for storing eggs and anything that is not fatty, and while they require power to run initially you can store for a LONG time without power.

Just wondering if that shed is going to get hot. Because if it is that food isn't going to last long.
Canned food should ideally be stored in a cool and dry environment, with steady temperatures between 50 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit (10-43 degrees Celsius). Temperatures above 75 degrees Fahrenheit (24 degrees Celsius) can cause a significant decrease in storage time and may lead to loss of color, flavor, and nutrition. Storing canned goods in temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) is considered harmful to the food.

My mom's family homestead lived in a very old 2 story house with a small underhouse storage space.
I remember, as a child, they hand dug out the entire underhouse (extending supports where needed) and created a "root cellar" that stayed about 60° year round.
They had canning events around harvest time so that cellar looked like a grocery store with shelves, hanging meat, and barrels of things. The picking was our job, the "women folk" did the canning on the big screened in outdoor kitchen. I remember the men rolling wheel barrows of freshly dug dirt up a ramp out of the cellar, every year expanding it more each year.
I spent a month-plus ,every year, living there and enjoyed that part of my childhood the most.

Your clothesline brought back a long ago memory of my paternal Grandmother...she had a clothesline strung on their property. You could do like she did to get rid of that deep sag if you wanted to. My Grandfather cut a long straight sapling, as a pole with a slot cut into one end. The clothesline went into the slot and he used the pole positioned at the center to prop up the sag

The term "Walmarted" originally referred to the kind of censorship that Walmart forced upon the music industry.
Music albums had to be altered, to appease Walmart's content approval committee, usually by either changing the lyrics, dubbing them over, blanking out some vocals, and sometimes even removing/replacing entire songs, to remove the "objectionable" content. If a label or artist refused to comply with Walmart's demands, their albums would not be sold in any Walmart stores.
And it wasn't just Walmart that sold these altered versions of albums. Other stores ended up getting them too, by purchasing them from the same distributors that were servicing Walmart. There was often a surplus stock that Walmart didn't want, that were then sold at bargain prices to smaller discount stores.
And if you ended up with one of these altered albums, you'd say it was "Walmarted, for your listening displeasure," regardless of what store it was purchased from, because ultimately, it was Walmart's fault that they had been altered, in the first place.

My sister in law cans everything, from beans and potatoes to cooked hamburger and the usual jams and jellies. She had my brother build her many shelves in the garage to house all these jars. You can also dry store grains and beans with good airtight containers.

Dried beans are super stockable, lightweight and, if you order organic/non-GMO, you can use the beans as seeds for your garden. I’ve done this for severable varieties and it’s super satisfying to know I’m now growing them in my own garden.

When I canned, I can stew tomatoes, then I'd add different spices, to make into spaghetti, chili, salsa and can up. We pickked alot too. Kosher dill, kosher dill green beans, cauliflower, carrots garlic, onions, pepper mix. Cinnamon sweet pickles, bread and butter pickles. I blanched green beans, corn, peas, we'd make sourkraut and freeze it too. But we'd also harvest 4 or 5 deer, 100 meat chickens, 5 turkey we'd smoke 3, fishing & 1 pig too every year. It was our lifestyle not called homesteading like everyone says now. We grew everything, I only bought butter and milk, condiments, flour, sugars. I'm 60 April 30 a widow for 11 years now.

When planning on what tomato products you jar, don't forget the herbs that you will need. We jar Salsa , so I have Cilantro and Jalapeno Peppers growing. We also jar Marinara sauce, so we have Basil plants getting ready to go into the garden. It is just the 2 of us now (Empty Nesters) so 1 quart jar of marinara sauce is too much. Salsa goes in pint jars and marinara sauce in pint and half jars!
    Love your channel!

You're in Tennessee. You'll be surprised at how many eggs your girls will lay in the winter. I live in the Ozarks ( SW Missouri) & I get about 5 a day, from 10 ( 2 years old) Easter Eggers .

I was thinking the same thing. We are in the foothills of the Ozarks, and our girls slow down laying in the winter, but never stop. I actually see them slowing down more during molting. There are also breeds that are known to be good winter layers. We have a few of those. It's rare for us to not get any eggs at all.

Tomato products and a lot of fruits are water bath canned. Vegetables are canned using a pressure canner. It's all about the acidity.. You might also look at fermenting as a way of food preservation. Look at Azure Standard and see if there is a drop location near you. That might save you a trip to the big city for a lot of things.

Another good thing about having your beer in a chest freezer is that if a bottle blows, it is contained and much easier to clean than a closet... It would be nice to see a drone shot of your property if you can see it all from 400 ft. It looks like there may be a strean running in the valley behind your solar panels. The good thing about freezers and storage space is that you can stock the "crap you don't need" so there is no need to get more. We don't have a clue what is in the back of our garage freezer or even our pantry. We try to keep an inventory of what we have and check off what we use, but it is never correct. By keeping case lots, you can see what is getting low. We love red meat sauce from our tomatoes, so I make it a gallon or two at a time, which as you say, takes some time, but we freeze it in quart and pint container for quick and easy pasta meals. We can take a pint, add more meat and taco seasoning for Mexican too with rice and refried beans.

If you’re looking for good meat. There is a place in Clinton called “Clinch River Meat Company”. Ther me is all locally grown by local farmers. They have grass fed and finished or grain finished available. It’s a USDA inspected facility so you can by steaks and ground beef. They have only been open a few months. The quality is excellent and they will ship if you need them to. The nice thing is you don’t have to buy a whole/ half or quarter cow to buy from them. There Hamberger meat is hands down the best I have ever had. They way even be willing to do a marketing deal with you. Beef for talking about them on your channel. I happen to live next door to them where I am starting a farm and homestead.
