  • So, this is the VW Golf Mk6, and Ive had this car for a few days so though it would be good to make a video on 5 things I love about this hatchback. It is a pleasant surprise and caught me off guard.

  • @MrS9b

    The gas (diesel!) at low rpm is just the idle governor. All cars have an idle governor, but not all cars are capable of idling while going up a hill. That's a diesel thing. The MK6 TDI also has a low idle when in neutral that would normally be too low to prevent severe lugging, but reduces fuel consumption when stationary. It will go to high idle when you start to bring up the clutch in gear, and also when it's doing a regen.
    Didn't mention the sound proofing! Can barely tell it's a diesel sometimes!

    VW had invested lots in minimizing road and wind noise by having an extra windscreen installed. This was applied to the Golf and GTI. I use to drive a MK5 and it was super quiet inside. These are very well built cars. Great video!

    I have a 2012 Golf with a 2.5-liter inline five and an automatic transmission. There's nothing about it that I don't like - except for the stall that took my dealer seventeen tires to fix. Oh yeah, and U.S.-spec Mark 6 Golfs have English-only (no metric) speedometers.

    • @GeoStreber
      @GeoStreber Před 6 lety +2

      I drive a 1.4 TSI Golf Mk6, and I've test-driven a lot of MK7s. If you're going for a new one, pick either the 1.2 TSI or the 1.5 TSI if you're looking for a gas machine, or if you want anything with more grunt, go for the 2.0 TDI Diesel. That one is a beast. If you're going for a used one, try to avoid the 1.4 TSI on the Mk6. It's a great machine, but it can get issues with the timing chain. Instead, go for the 1.2 TSI. Avoid any non-turbocharge engines. Not because of the engine itself, but because of the gearbox. The non-turbo machines only get a 5-speed manual, while the others get a 6-speed. Trust me, you want 6 gears ^^

    • @M17_Max
      @M17_Max Před 6 lety

      GeoStreber it's been a while mate, I ended up getting a more practical option and have a Mini instead which is pretty nice, 1.6 with 98bhp so some decent speed for a first car- also physically nicer size being smaller than a golf. Got a spoiler, some nice tyres, black wheels,black roof and planning on dechroming so it's working out well! Thanks Anyway!

    • @GeoStreber
      @GeoStreber Před 6 lety +3

      Max2k I wouldn'T consider a Mini more practical than a Golf. And you'll definately pay more in maintenance because Mini belongs to BMW, so there's practically no way to do even minor repairs yourself. VW are way more tolerating in that sense. Does the 1.6 have 3 or 4 cylinders? I'm pretty sure the current ones start with 1.5L three-cylinders, which are basically BMW 3.0 straight-six engines sawed in half.

    • @M17_Max
      @M17_Max Před 6 lety +1

      GeoStreber when I said more practical, I meant for my uses in that i don't need a 5d, boot space isn't important and for a first car I want something smaller to be easier to park and manoeuvre (my opinion). Mine is a 2011 1.6 with 4 cylinders so it's not like the new f56's that have the 1.5l engines.

    • @GeoStreber
      @GeoStreber Před 6 lety
