Recent reports from New York Knicks insiders seem to indicate that Julius Randle will NOT be singing a contract extension with the team this summer which means he could become a free agent next season. Randle never took a pay cut. There is no market for him. Nobody else is going to pay him 30+ million to pretend to be a go to scorer. The extension signed for was the most money he could possibly get.
Brunson, if he signs the extension, would be taking a pay cut because he would command a max deal on the open market.

@@knicksdigest that's not a pay cut. He's not a max player. He bet against himself and bet right. He hasn't entered any offseason looking like a max player. His 2 All NBA seasons he ended with atrocious playoff performances. His third All Star year ended with the team having it's best seaon in years...with him in street clothes for last half of the season.
IF he is anywhere near a max player, the Knicks, or somebody else, will extend him for the max 4/180+. He'sll likely get MUCH less than that. We'll see...eventually.

He switched away from CAA so he could find another team that wanted him...either to drive up the price of the extension or to get traded to a team that would extend him. He found out nobody else wants him, so he went back to CAA hoping they will take care of him out of loyalty.
