Difference between ECG and echo (ultrasound of the heart)

  • Cardiologists and doctors use different tools to look at the heart. ECG’s are surface electrical interpretations of what’s going on beneath the surface. Echocardiography, or ultrasounds of the heart, help us rule in or rule out the clues from an ECG. They show us active damage or prior damage to the heart. For anything else in between we require stress testing (see other full video on stress tests separate in the cardiology basics playlist)

Currently have burning in my chest ...I had an EKG it showed good same with my blood.... Last week I had numbness in my left arm and then my body... I later had intense tightness in my chest followed by dizziness and extreme weakness...
Did a CT currently waiting for the results and I've got an echo tomorrow... I'm very scared because I showed all symptoms of a heart attack....

I was looking at 'Echo's' on CZcams with my pre school aged Grandchild. We enjoyed mountains, tunnels and some funny sesame street ones. When a heart echo came up. Healthy and HA hearts. They started laughing and pointed to the healthy heart stating it was smiling at them.. I pointed to the damaged heart and asked about that one. 'Oh no', they said 'That one isn't smiling'. I asked why and they stated, 'because it is sad'.

@@YouHaveACoolUserName ah congrats! Honestly, just learn as much as you can during medical school, work hard on rotations, find a good mentor, and foster lasting connections The medical community is smaller than you might think and can help matching into residency/fellowship or even help you find a job in the future. Oh and enjoy your summer before med school starts if you can!

Does an echo and an ecg detect a hole in your heart as I’ve had a few

I'm in A-Fib rt now, getting echo cardio tomorrow. I'll let you know. I go in and out, mostly I work too much, lift too much. Most times it's gone in 3-5 days, I'm on 8 days now, on beta blockers and blood thinners.
