Fantastic - thank you so much. I thought the CD drive in my 8 year old Wave III was terminally gone, but this fix did the job. I was getting the message 'Not readable' for every CD but this has fixed it! Very well presented and explained. Cheers!

Thank you! I recently acquired a used Wave Music System III, and it would only play certain CD's. Your quick and easy fix restored it to perfect function. I can't thank you enough!
Very well done video instructions. I recently picked up a Bose AWRCC1 at Goodwill for $8.65 in practically brand new condition. Took a chance as I figured something was probably wrong with it. That's usually why people donate (get rid of stuff) because it stops working and they don't want to screw with it or are not mech/elect. inclined. Radio played fine, but the CD would "freeze" for a moment (no music) every so often (counter wouldn't move but then would start again). Then it started where it would not play at all, just "DISC NOT READABLE". Followed your instructions to a tee. Tested it still open and it started to play again like it did when I first got it. Bought one of those CD/DVD cleaner disc and ran it multiple times. It's running better now (the best so far) but still sometimes "freezes" momentarily. Seems like it has gotten progressive better each time I run that cleaner disc through it. Another CZcams video posting talked about adjusting a small pot on the board for optical alignment. Haven't tried that yet, any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks again for your well done and very helpful video and I especially like your petroleum jelly idea to lubricate the screws.
Thank you for watching my channel, I know your issue which can be resolved by replacing the laser. Do not mess with the laser screw it is set by the factory calibrated for each laser. If its not working just replace the laser.
@@thespecialist786 Just to follow-up as it maybe useful to your audience. Craziest thing happened. I ran the disc cleaner a couple more times. Then placed Boston's first CD in the unit. It first started to do the same freeze and skip thing, but this time I let the entire CD play through. It started playing perfectly! I then put another CD in their and again it played perfectly. I recently purchased a AWRCC2 for $5.00 at a local garage sale, with the multi-disc changer. Had the same issue with it not playing a disc properly. Took 15-20 to clean out everything and put it back together, but it still had the same issue when I finished the job. Thank you for your kind comments Nancy, the issue you are describing does not relate to lense cleaning. The problem with your wave is that it needs a service by replacing caps. This can be done by any confident diy soldering expert.

Excellent Advice that work! My cds weren’t playing either. Now, it’s All & Clear!🤙 One bit of advice for you to let folks know: DO NOT USE A DRILL! Taking the case out were no issue BUT when I reattached the case, I over torqued the 2 front screws and broke the anchors. No biggie, Case is still secured with the 3 back and side screws. Thanks for your video help.👍
Any equipment that people open,’TV Radio, game console, DvD player, always use hand screw driver. Never use Auto driver as it will damage the product. Thanks for mentioning. I never user power drills.

Hi. Thanks for the excellent video. Very clear and easy to follow. My issue is disk Not Playable. I went through the cleaning process twice and I used CRC QD Contact Clearer each time (is that OK?). I'm still getting the same message and I've tried multiple CDs. Any other suggestions? Thank you for your help.
Same problem here: "not playable" is the message. When I view the cd component with the unit open and a cd put in, nothing seems to be moving inside the cd unit at all. Any suggestions? Lots of people seem to have this problem with the bose wave!
I have a Wave Music System. The CD player always made a tapping sound when I first put the CD in. It might skip but once it started playing it would eventually stop skipping or tapping. Once in a while the CD wouldn’t eject either. I followed your process. The CDs will eject now but I still hear that tapping sound in the beginning when the CD is first inserted. Any suggestions?
Looka pretty simple thanks! Hope it works when I try it, my unit skips. As the saying goes they don't make things like they used to. I just gave a 25 year old unit that loaded CD's on top after opening a lid that has worked perfectly and still does. I have had this unit, oh maybe ten years or so and it is now skipping.
HI, thank you for this wonderful video. We followed every step very carefully, but we are not able to get a power-up after putting it together. We checked the ribbon connection, it seems fine. Can you offer a suggestion that may be successful? Thank you!
@Barbara S Glanz - Thank you for watching my channel. I understand things sonetimes can go wrong way but please do not worry. Fix should be easy as 🥧 pie. How many ribbon cables did you disconnect. If it was the one for the clock just take it out again and turn it around and insert it back in. It most likely you have got the ribbon cable inserted the wrong way round. That should bring life back into your system. Also press the ribbon cables gently to make sure they are seated correctly. Hope all goes well! Please subscribe to my channel and I’ll keep you posted with excited information that can be used around the house.
Thanks much for this. I came across my old unit recently while going through a room that hadn't been cleaned out for quite a while. The CDs would skip a lot and I would get a message of disc error, so I was trying this fix.I can't figure out which way the ribbon goes back in. More importantly, it will not stay in either way. Note also the blue tab just fell off while I was manipulating the ribbon. I have photos I could send if that helps. Can you advise which way the ribbon goes in and how to get it to stay in? Appreciate any help you can offer.
Whenever my player starts having trouble reading some CDs or skipping tracks I turn it off, disconnect it from power and let it off for a while. Can't say how long, just leave it off and cool off for an hour (could be a temperature issue or some temp memory that needs clearing). Then, it works as usual, time is not cleared though. Try this before opening the unit and using liquids on the lens or scrubbing it. Edit: I own a newer version of this same Bose unit.
Thank you for your comments, Please kindly subscribe to me channel. The issue is all these Wave units are based on the same design so the faults are very similar across most models. You have not said which model you own III or IV? You can try reseting the Wave system from the remote. This can be done by holding the Alarm Time / Menu button from the remote for a few seconds while the system is in ON postion. Then scroll through to reset, press 2 to perform system reset. The system will reboot and all settings will reset. Hope this helps.
@@thespecialist786 Thanks for your quick reply. I have the Wave system IV. Also, thanks for the instructions on how to reset the unit. If the above doesn't work next time the system starts having trouble reading CDs, I'll try that too before opening it.

Found this video very helpful as I had no cds that would play, now they play but skip? Any other ideas what I could try? Thank you Strike that, tried it this morning and it’s working perfectly, I wonder if the alcohol hadn’t 100% dried. So a big thanks for video it’s been a if help
I'm hoping that the alcohol still being wet is the problem with mine...I just followed the directions to a T -- put the unit back together -- and it still won't read an inserted disc -- so maybe trying tomorrow will be the successful solution!!
Thanks so much! It worked.. hardest part was taking those wires off those tiny pins..and then getting them back in those little pins.. Did I do that part right?
Thank you for making this video. I have a Bose Radio / CD player like the one in your video. The AWRCC1. The radio part is working fine. When I select CD mode and insert a disk, it displays the track and starts playing but it is skipping a lot. It sounds like it can play for 1/2 a second then pause, then another 1/2 second of music then pause... I was able to take the CD unit apart thanks to your video and I cleaned the lens with 70% isopropyl alcohol. I also cleaned the pinch roller. The cd player still does the same skipping. I tried several different CD's all with the same behavior. Skipping is worse on the first tracks, then plays a little better at the higher tracks. Does this sound like a bad laser unit? I'm not getting any error codes. Thanks again.
@george terbush - Laser is perfect, I can tell you the parts to replace on the Main audio controller board. Kindly email me and please subscribe for more videos.
Hi Specialist. I replaced a good number of the surface mount electrolytic capacitors on the Main Amp board as well as the MPU / CD controller board. The radio and CD player are now playing great! I documented my work just in case it would help someone else with a similar problem. Thank you again for putting me on the right path to fixing my Bose radio. Here is my CZcams link on repairing the skipping CD problem... czcams.com/video/snuJdw60ueg/video.html All the best, George TerBush
@@thespecialist786 Greetings! Model AWRCC1 started rapid skipping last week. Followed your video which was great, however when I took the case off, it was full of debris which was coming from the foam covering speaker wires. It was very dry and just disintegrated everywhere. Thought this was the problem thinking some got near the laser. Opened up the top and cleaned the laser, cleaned all the debris out of the whole Bose box, but still has a problem. If you would be so kind, please forward me the parts to replace. Looked at all the caps, none were bulged that I could see. Tx Mike
I have followed your cleaning instructions. Radio works .. however, when I switch to CD the is a "static noise" and the system turns OFF for a second and in CD mode. Putting in the CD, it goes in and reading disc and the "not playable" appears. I have used the CD before for hours. Hope, you can help with this issue. Thanks for your time
@h smith - Thank you for your comments it seems the issue with your system is not the CD but the system board that is connected to your CD assembly because you say its turning off. Hope this helps. Please do not attempt to clean your lens.
Celia Rushin Thanks so much, I have just followed all your excellent Tutorial. My goodness the 16 years worth of dirt was really impressive. Unfortunately it's still not working properly. I noticed the roller had a ridge right in the middle like it was going to split in half. Is this normal, and if not, is it possible to buy a replacement roller?. It is accepting the disc, but not reading it at all. The dust was really thick over the circuit board so I tried very gently cleaning it with the alcohol and a cotton bud. The radio is not working now either. Please help if you can. Many thanks
Let it dry, it should be fine. The ridge in the roller is normal. The disc is held from the edges of the roller. You may have put alchol on the wrong chip. Use a soft toothbrush and clean it again and let it dry before turning it on. Please susbcribe to my channel. Thank you so much.
Well it's taken me nearly 6 months to get back to giving it another go. As I felt I had nothing to loose as nothing was working. The CDs were going in, but not been read just ejected again. I have done all the procedure as before and cleaned everything very carefully with a soft toothbrush. When putting the ribbon back in at the end, the harder blue piece of plastic attached to the ribbon, have become separate. Is that essential? I can't tell whether the blue bit just aids the ribbon going in or not. I can't work out whether when you put the ribbon back in whether the writing should be facing the front or the back. Will it be possible to put the ribbon in without the blue bit? Sorry this makes me sound really incompetent, but I'm normally quite good at mending stuff. Would love to hear from you if you think you can help. Or if it's now a lost cause. Many thanks Celia Rushin
I got a used Wave Acoustic CD-3000. The radio works great. The CD player spins the CD and the display shows it started but does not begin to play. There is a soft clicking sound and will not play. I have tried different discs. What is the likely cause? If it is not an easy fix, I wiill be selling it on eBay for parts within the next week but I would rather fix it!
I have old Bose wave system that doesn't work no sound and can't accept cd also. Can you please help me to work on. thank you you got a good video tutorial.
Hi! I did the procedure. The player now accepts & ejects discs without hesitation. It also started to play Track 1, but then it stopped. The display now reads “NOT PLAYABLE” for every CD I attempted to play. I’m assuming the laser reader might be kaput?
Hi, Thank you for your comment, no I don’t believe its the laser. What did you use to clean the laser? You need to use something like this. Tape Head Cleaner www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000KHDZJ6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_NChQFbVCVZBX8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Thank you for showing me how to get into the guts of the machine. Unfortunately, it still just clicks and skips, even after the cleaning. Any other suggestions? Thanks.
Definitely going to try this on our Bose, is there an alternative to the cleaning fluid you used? APC1 , as I’d have to buy this specially and I have numerous cleaning fluids at home? Thanks in advance .
@@shirleyhanson8052 just to be on the safe side, don’t remove the ribbon cables from the clock just unscrew the clock from the front. I have had a few people breaking the cable while removing it.
I cleaned my wave player, but it didn’t fix my issue. I can a song start and then after a few seconds it skips to the next track, and so on repeatedly. Any ideas what would cause this type of issue?
Hi, thankyou for your comments, that a easy fix. All you need is thick kitchen tissue and some alchol purfume. Spray purfume on the tissue, then wrap it on CD and insert it in the system but only insert it half way and hold it do not let go and pull the CD with the tissue in amd out a few times. Thats should cure it without openning the system.
Hi, thank you for the instructions. CD player played but wasn’t forwarding to next track etc, followed everything you said but now when I put the CD in it rattles inside and then says CD player says not playable. Do you know what I might have done wrong? Thanks! Subscribed! 👍🏽
The Specialist thank you for your super quick reply!!! it’s all okay now, I realised when I opened it again that I didn’t put the first plate in properly and that when you lift the second plate to open up the CD holder that the round black thing had come out so I managed to put that back in and now it’s all working great (The round black thing that is on the second plate pressing the CD down I guess. Thanks for your help, much appreciated! Your a star!
Hi, I realise 2/3 screws are messed up & think what they go into are broken. I used the Vasoline and did take my time but unfortunately it still happened. Could you advise me on what I could do about it? Thanks.
@HiggyB61 - I believe you reffering to the Lid, So the only way I would advise is to buy a Glue Gun if you don’t have one and put the lid on flip the system upside down and use the glue gun to cement the edges all the way round the system to give it a tight seal. That will work perfect for you. As its underneth you will not see the seal and the system will hold safe.
You mention if there's no clicking follow this. So I have some clicking then the cd will start playing. Sometimes the entire cd. Other times it will start clicking, no sound, then start playing again. Can I still use this method? Thanks. Great video.
Karen, thank you 🙏 for watching my channel. No if there is clicking this method will not work. The clicking means you secondary audio board needs parts but the good news is that it means the laser is ok.
For those who DON'T KNOW you should NEVER USE one of those CD/DVD lense cleaners ... think about something you WOULDN'T USE two or more brooms spinning 200 revolutions per minute (RPM) to wash your car would you? That's what those cleaning discs have on them ... a NORMAL audio CD player spins the disk 500 RPM at the beginning and slows to 200 RPM at the end of a full 74 minute length disc .. if it isn't full it will be spinning faster than the slowest speed it can ... remember these CD machines are optical and most laser assemblies are not sealed completely so another thing that happens is the dust and debris the brush(es) knock off are now flying all over the place and gets everywhere ... once that happens 1. The unit will not readily place ANY disc 2. Won't play any at all .... the best way is to take it to a qualified technician and he or she will take it apart and properly clean the linse ... the lense is a precision lense made from highly polished plastic and it is easily scratched even soft bristled brushes can scratch because of dirt and dust
After I removed the entire CD assembly , I removed the 2 ribbons to cleasn the laser lense and the laser rail , I get NOT PLAYABLE on any disc . The disc it does spin.
I have two Bose media centers that needs to be repaired. One unit, the power is not turning off and the CD/DVD does not work. The other unit has problems with the TV output and FM stations not working. Can you fix the problem?
There is a wide 3/4 inch plastic strip with teeny claws on the end that is attached at right hand side of metal cd unit on right hand side and the other end (with the little claws) pulled off I do not know where it attaches to. Anyone?
Sometimes it says "Not Playable" on a CD I know is good and plays fine in my other players. So, I put it back in the Bose and let it blink about 15 times and it eventually accepted the CD and played it. Possible dirty lens causing this delay? These Bose machines get weak after many years of use and become somewhat temperamental.
THANK YOU for making this video. Followed your directions, and It worked like a charm! Amazing how dirt and dust can build up inside of a device like this!

Thank you for your kind comments Nancy, the issue you are describing does not relate to lense cleaning. The problem with your wave is that it needs a service by replacing caps. This can be done by any confident diy soldering expert.
Who would that specialist be?

No. Washington state on West Coast of US. Lovely accent by the way.
@@nancyb2623 ☺️ Aww, Thank you Nancy for the compliments. Well, your a little far for me to help you. Do you know any one who is good with Soldering? Thats the only way to cure the issue. As you will need to order parts may be from Radio Shack.
Thanks your instructions worked for me
Thank you --- this worked on my Bose. Like new.
Thank you, excellent instruction.
Worked like a charm. Thanks
Thank you very much for this tutorial.

@drsyn67 - Thank you so much for your kind words. Please subscribe and keep my channel, I have some very interesting videos coming about Bose Wave upgrades.
Thank you much for your excellent video instructions! I can play my music CDs again 🎉
Many thanks for your video. That was very helpful.
Thank you sir. My Soundwave Touch works like a charm once again! 🎉
I have will try this info! Thank you for posting. Must try.

Lots of people seem to have this problem with the bose wave!
excellent video !
Skipping or Clicking?
@@thespecialist786 Skipping, totally unplayable.
@@tomlapham5532 You have two options, 1) clean the pickup lens as per my video. 2) Repleace the laser if the problem does not cure after cleaning.

I want to thank you for this video. I used it to clean the lens on my system, and now it works perfectly. Thank you so much.
Mine just keeps saying every CD is not playable, tried the lens cleaning cd and it says the same thing
Sure, just email me the photos and I will send you the one with correct position.
Very helpful!

Thank you
Strike that, tried it this morning and it’s working perfectly, I wonder if the alcohol hadn’t 100% dried. So a big thanks for video it’s been a if help
I'm hoping that the alcohol still being wet is the problem with mine...I just followed the directions to a T -- put the unit back together -- and it still won't read an inserted disc -- so maybe trying tomorrow will be the successful solution!!
Thank you.
Thank you!!!
Thanks for this, great!
Thanks so much! It worked.. hardest part was taking those wires off those tiny pins..and then getting them back in those little pins.. Did I do that part right?
Thank you for your comments, if everything is working then all is well.
This is great and I am almost there but I am having issues getting the cd to go back in...could in not line up after screws tight or not so tight.
Removed the screws you have used the screw in the wrong place. One screw is on the right and one on the left. Check carefully
I'm having this trouble, too. Screws are correctly placed back in.
thank you. very informative
Glad it helped you, thank you for your kind words

Tx Mike
Thank you
great video, thanks, we need to get you a work bench, to hard on the knees!!!!! :)

Would this be the same approach to fix disk errors on the multi-CD changer?
Nope, multi changer has multiple issues.

Thanks so much, I have just followed all your excellent Tutorial.
Thanks for getting back to me, 8 will give it a go over the next week. Cheers
What is the cleaner solvent used to cleaan the len and rubber rolling part Sir?
APC1
I got a used Wave Acoustic CD-3000. The radio works great. The CD player spins the CD and the display shows it started but does not begin to play. There is a soft clicking sound and will not play. I have tried different discs. What is the likely cause? If it is not an easy fix, I wiill be selling it on eBay for parts within the next week but I would rather fix it!
Easy fix, just clean the Lens with Alcohol using an Ear bud very gently.
Good job keep it up 👍👍👍👍👍
I have old Bose wave system that doesn't work no sound and can't accept cd also. Can you please help me to work on. thank you you got a good video tutorial.
Thank you for watching my channel and for your comments. Sure I’ll get you system back to life. So does your system plays radio?
Thanks!
I used generic Isopropyl Alcohol, 70%....from the drug store (chemist). I’ll try the Servisol Video 40. BTW....do you think I’ve caused any damage?
@@casualobserver3145 No, Just need the correct cleaner, use a ear bud with a very light hand gently clean it. Do not blow it.

@Joe Fazio - Clicking means the secondary Audio board has an issue. How are you solidering skills?
@@thespecialist786 Shaky at best, LOL! But I'll give it a shot.

Would one of those CD lens cleaner discs work as well? If not, why not?
The lens cleaner CD are hit and miss but manual cleaning is the best.
I cleaned my wave player, but it didn’t fix my issue. I can a song start and then after a few seconds it skips to the next track, and so on repeatedly. Any ideas what would cause this type of issue?
Thank you for watching my channel. What did you use to clean the lens?
I’m having an issue with my Bose of pulling the CD into the system, with this help with that?😢
Hi, thankyou for your comments, that a easy fix.

@HiggyB61 - 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Excellent video! Thank you!
Hope you have one for the CD changer also
Thank you, I have a really good video in the pipe line for the CD changer. Watch this space😷
Thank you, but when I plugged it back in the clock just flashed and did not play any music, any help?
Please check the ribbon cables and make sure you have plugged them in correctly. What did you use to clean the laser?
Won't play any at all .... the best way is to take it to a qualified technician and he or she will take it apart and properly clean the linse ... the lense is a precision lense made from highly polished plastic and it is easily scratched even soft bristled brushes can scratch because of dirt and dust
what about when the CD keeps stopping and skipping is it a cleaning issue this can be resolved by a CD cleaner
First try cleaning the lens if that does not resolve the issue then your secondary board caps have gone.
thanks man ~ i saved 100$ ^^
My Bose II has a CD stuck inside. Any suggestions? Will your instructions work? Thank you!
Ofcourse, Not sure if you have pushed 2 CD’s inside. CD do not get stuck that easily. You will need to open the system first.
After I removed the entire CD assembly , I removed the 2 ribbons to cleasn the laser lense and the laser rail , I get NOT PLAYABLE on any disc . The disc it does spin.
What did you use to clean the laser??
I have two Bose media centers that needs to be repaired. One unit, the power is not turning off and the CD/DVD does not work. The other unit has problems with the TV output and FM stations not working. Can you fix the problem?

There is a wide 3/4 inch plastic strip with teeny claws on the end that is attached at right hand side of metal cd unit on right hand side and the other end (with the little claws) pulled off I do not know where it attaches to.
Anyone?
Please share a photo of the part.
What happens of you ignore the part. Does the system work?
I could not get the ribbon to go back in? What am I doing wrong?
Thank you for your comment, do you have the blue secure on the ribbon? Check the pins on the ribbon they should not be bent.
Thank you for watching my channel, yes as a first point of action Please clean the lens as advised in the video. This should cure the issue.
Could also be weak or weakening capacitors in this 16 year old unit. @@thespecialist786
