- US State Department Spokesperson Vedant Patel refused to answer a question posed by journalist Sam Husseini around whether or not the Geneva Conventions apply in Gaza.
Israeli forces have been accused by human rights organisations of repeatedly and vastly breaking international humanitarian law. Israel itself is also facing accusations of genocide in the UN's top court, the International Court of Justice, via a case brought forward by South Africa.
Israel’s relentless military campaign on the Gaza Strip since October 7 has claimed the lives of over 34,000 people - of which around 13,900 were children.

Seems like it fits the description of what's happening in Gaza.
But is the IDF inflicting those conditions on Palestinians or is Hamas?
Objectively who is responsible? the ones who provoked the wrath of a much more powerful military entity or the much more powerful military entity itself dictating the living conditions of Gaza in their pursuit against those who harmed their people.
If palestine wasn’t under israeli occupation, I’d blame hamas. But it is and has been for 76 years.
Say I lock you in my basement for months with limited food and water, only allowed to leave when I say so. If you break out, and hurt me in the process, do I have the right to “self-defense” ? I think not, and international law would agree with me.
We’re all more similar than we like to believe, and I don’t think evil/chaos is born in a vacuum (especially not in todays world). The conditions didn’t excuse Hamas’ actions, but it’s important to know as we need to look at *why* both sides are doing what they’re doing, and listening only to western media will prevent you from seeing the “why” of the palestinian people.
For People who don't think yes. For the rest of us, it's also obvious, but with the real Reason.
Interesting they are asking this stupid kind of question in behalf of Israel's response. Totally forgetting about what caused the whole situation. Maybe try to ask this question about what the Palastinian Arabs did on Oct 7th..
