  • My good friend Brian from Southern Relic Adventures shared these custom ferrous limits for the Minelab Manticore and I think they are really awesome. I'm pretty sure he got them from Sid in England (Shout to SID!) but I could be wrong. I'm going to show you how to set them up for your Manticore step-by-step. I'll provide you the instructions you need to put these awesome settings on your machine.

    I used these settings (not that I understand them, lol) and did a quick hunt after work. New park for me.
    First target was a 1932 silver quarter. Dug some junk. Then, I found an 1887 IHP just as I got rained out.
    IHP was my first. Saw it laying on the ground after kicking leaves away. Going back to this spot in the morning. Stretch of creek that had several mills along it.
    Will be running these settings!

    Hey, so I’m pretty sure I watched one of your videos probably more than once lol you’re an amazing teacher for this. I started with the legend and now I have the. manticore. My significant other has the equinox 900 and honestly he’s always finding more than me. That’s why I bought the manticore. Ha. I have found that sometimes even though I can get somewhat of a repeatable beep sometimes it’s very scratchy if that makes sense and I get so frustrated. I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind giving me some of your professional settings what I should do for my main, I live in Minnesota And hunting both , lotta deep stuff here as well. I was just using AT general 4 recovery speed. Stabilizer on the preset Ferris limit and I’m still missing stuff. He’ll go over a spot that I didn’t even hear the beep for something. I’m hoping you can help this as my main settings. 🙏 I find lots of clad by the way, and some relics. I’m not new to metal detecting just this manticore.

      Thanks for the vote of confidence I appreciate that. For starters, I do like these ferrous limits I reference in the video but I tend to run the machine more now in all metal mode. If you are running in all metal mode, make sure you turn on the Red Ferrous numbers (only matters if you are running all metal mode). If you are in heavy iron we like to hunt with the stabilizer at 2 or 3 (no higher) and we turn on the Iron filter. If you don't have those conditions turn off the filter. You can still run a stabilizer but if you don't need it, turn it off. If you want some more depth, lower your recovery speed down to 2 or 3. As far as sensitivity goes, don't run it too high. We hunt with it at around 20-22. When over a target, turn 90 degrees on it. If the numbers significant change or go away it probably junk, if you turn and you still hear a repeatable target pay attention to the 2D map. You might see a co-mingled target with iron. The manticore overall is a deeper machine than the 900 but it takes some time to understand what its tell you. I've had many members in my Patreon group almost give up on it, but now the majority of them won't put it down. Hope that helps.

      @@MentalMetal awesome thank you! I think what confused me too was the ferrous number changes in a couple videos. I think a couple even had a negative number. There’s where I got lost lol.

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  Před měsícem +1

      This setup if you turn down your sensitivity to somewhere between 18-20 should eliminate a lot of iron falsing. This set up is good for any type of hunting really except beach.

    So I’m a tad bit confused Scott will it automatically save after you put it in and shut the machine off and turn it back on or is there a way to save it? I didn’t catch that of the video.

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  Před měsícem

      Yes when set this up in one of the additional banks/slots (I think you have 4) it will remember until you overwrite it.

    Should I expect to able to run m8 coil at higher sensitivity than the m11 with this custom program?

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  Před měsícem

      You should actually run a lower sensitivity down to about 16-18. You can run the 11 a little higher to about 20-22.

    • @joshualicciardello7517
      @joshualicciardello7517 Před měsícem

      @MentalMetal My m8 coil will be quite at a sensitivity of 30 where with the m11 I max out around 25. I'm wondering if there is a problem with the coil.

    Scott, good video, however… 100% beach hunter here, I’ve seen so many videos advising against notching, or adjusting Ferrous limits for fear of missing gold targets. I understand that gold is nonferrous, so that doesn’t seem to make sense to me anyway. What are your thoughts on this?

    • @huntinquincy4238
      @huntinquincy4238 Před měsícem

      I hear ya, I use the manticore and have since it was first shipped. I will not notch anything out and yes I dig nails sometimes but I also dig great stuff that sound like iron including small gold. It’s rare but it does happen. Dug 6 gold in one night recently and most sounded like iron with a slight low bump so keep it wide open 👍🏼
