Jordan Peterson wrestles for 3 years with the Resurrection of Jesus

  • These videos are clips taken 3 years apart from two separate interviews. In the first interview, Jordan says he needs about 3 more years to ponder and look into the resurrection claims before he can make a determination or even comment. in the second interview (three years later) Jordan says that he probably believes that Jesus did rise from the dead. He says it seems oddly plausible. Pray for Jordan Peterson as the holy Spirit is working in his life to lead him to the truth!

In 1985 I was 13 at the shrine of the blessed virgin at Mount Mellary Ireland, the statue of our lady became brighter than white and shone, it moved out from the rocks and the image of Jesus Christ began to appear in its place, he was in a bright white robe, a black sash around hs waist, his hair was dark shoulder length, his heart was outside his chest,he appeared white, his hands were by his sides palms facing forward with the wounds of crucifixion visable, tears rolled from my eyes, not because I was weeping, it just was like my body was doing its own thing, I was taken to a little hut that had windows cut out, no glass, I blinked as in a situation like ths you will try to assure yourself what your seeing as real, when I called him in my mind, I said his name Jesus Christ, before I could say his name he responded to my thought and slowly turned his head until he was staring right at me, I looked as long as I could and hung my head, his look made me feel something that to this day struggle with, I mustered my strength and looked back up, he was still looking at me, I looked at him as long as I could which was only about 5 to 10 seconds and I had to hang my head again, I belive I felt the weight of sin beneath his gaze, I am a lowly and vile sinner, somtimes I belive that he let me see him to show me his unfathomable mercy and love as he knew then all the terrible sins I would commit but still his love was greater than anything I could ever do, other times I remember the strong thout that struck me that evening in my aunts house, that maybe it's for somone else, someone who needs to hear my testomony of the realty of what happened that day, what I can tell you with total faith, is that Jesus Christ is real, you need to know about his firece side that some girls and I saw, I can tell you that I think of that moment many times throughout the day, my one regret is that I didn't throw myself facedown on the ground I front of him, look up Mount Mellary apparitions on CZcams, there's video from the week during the visions and eye witness testimony, hope this helps you in your journey too the Father through Jesus Christ, Ave Maria

@NoFear1979 okay, & what is your point for quoting this absolutely
      random verse?
Didn't they teach you in elementary school to start reading from the BEGINNING??
Yes! Start from the beginning of chapter 18, or else you'll be lost & not know the context of which you read
1 sentence, at random, then tried to discredit the divinityof Jesus.
Man, you must be an idiot, and the Christian that believes you is more of an idiot, and a lazy Christian at thatA
Open your bibles Christians and READ FROM PAGE 1!
      Okay little sonny boy,
Lets give you a Bible lesson.
      Start from point 1!
Chapter 18, verses 1-32 Ezekiel, is actually beautiful!
It states what Jesus was teaching, to REPENT & your sins will he forgiven. This chapter points out an individual who "walks in the statutes of God", and another person who does not.
Now, if the person who's whole existence is sin & hatred for God has a son, and the son sees the wrong his dad does, so decides to live righteously, that son doesn't take on his fathers sins. THANK GOD!! Each individual is responsible son for his or her own choices, free will, to live righteously, or live a sinful life.
      YOUR CHOICE!!!
This may allude to the early old testament where God said that iniquity will be passed down 3 to 4 generations.
The one who follows Gods commandments will live, meaning, eternal life.
The one who breaks all the rules will surely die. Meaning, that person will exist without God. A separation from God, by our own free will, our own choosing to do so. Nobody forces us to sin.
Jesus said He is the Way, Truth, & the what?? LIFE!!!
      SIN IS DEATH.
You either love God, or hate God.
If you love a parent, you OBEY THEM.
Then the prophet Ezekiel puts together next that the righteous person lives, the one that breaks all the commandments will die. Now, if the individual who is a sinner, and the son chooses to not follow his fathers ways, but instead live righteously, that son will LIVE!!
Bc he is not guilty of his fathers sins, biologically!
MAN, you're either an instigator or a lazy IDIOT!
I tell you this, unless you repent and soften your hardened heart,
      YOU will surely DIE YOURSELF!!
Even the lambs that are lead to slaughter don't know they're about to die until they see the barrel in their face.
      No fear?
That foolish animal is you. I implore you WAKE UP!
      Good luck.

    • @adamkinsey3139
      @adamkinsey3139 Před 2 lety +5

So, to follow Christ, you have to let go of your intellectual mind?

    • @josephmiller997
      @josephmiller997 Před 2 lety +5

@@adamkinsey3139 Not exactly. And I don't blame you for the question. It's legitimate. There are two parts to this, and neither of them is ENTIRELY logical, although there's more than a little logic in all of it.
First, to believe in Christ must necessarily be an engagement of faith. Logic and study can lead you to the precipice, but you cannot ever prove scientifically that God exists. And even if you decide that He must exist, there's the question of what that might mean for you. Does that mean you must submit to Him? Will it profoundly effect the way you live? These are questions Jordan trembles at, and well he might. Christians ought to tremble more. It's embarrassing that he sees this clearer than we.
Those are the essential questions. There will always be some element of faith in that decision. You must decide whether there's enough evidence for you to first believe, and then decide to put your trust in Him. And that can't be done strictly logically. This is where Jordan hesitates IMO. He sees the shadows; the footprints of God, but he can't see HIM. And he won't believe in what he cannot see. It's in his own formidable mind that he puts his ultimate trust.
Second, once you're a believer, there's the question of who is to be the boss. God gave us our intellect, and science is just man's pursuit of truth. It's a very good pursuit, and worthwhile. BUT. One must realize that as smart as we are, there is a limit to what we can understand. As a believer, you know that God alone holds and understands ALL the Truth.
At that point, You must bring your mind under what Christ has said. You do not take it upon yourself to correct Him. He is God, you are not. You definitely continue to engage your intellect. But you do it within the bounds that He's set for you because there are some things too large for our minds.
That's too big a leap for most people, especially intelligent ones. This is what I meant by the OP. God, if he is God, must be GOD. If you can't accept Him as that, then you can't be a Christian. That's a simple as I think I can make this idea.
Glad to clarify if you desire.

It's as simple as this. Yes Dr Peterson you have a deep clear understanding of the metaphorical, psychological and symbolic meanings of christs rising from the dead. The thing is if you accept the truth that Jesus didn't just symbolically rise from the dead but did so in a literal sense. That would mean that God is in fact real and your entire worldview would have to crumble down and you would have to learn to "lean not on your own understanding" it's a very hard thing to do, to realize the entire way you thought about reality might actually be wrong or be missing a crucial aspect of understanding that would then shift all the foundations you've built on sinking sand. That's what coming to Christ is like, renewing your mind, learning a whole new perspective, usually accompanied by an intense paradigm shift. I've seen it in you time and time again. God is knocking on your door and in stead of standing in the room debating with yourself wether or not The knock is literal or metaphorical, just open the door, accept that it could in fact be both and just open the door and see what you find. God promises you will find Him. When you seek Him with all of your heart.

    • @nathanaelwendel883
      @nathanaelwendel883 Před 2 lety +6

You're absolutely right! Especially when you quoted "lean not on your own understanding" I think you hit the nail right on the head. I have been reading through his books, and what bugs me is how close his "own understanding" is to the real Jesus, but also how narrowly he missed Jesus. It's painful because it's like a basketball shot that gets really close to making it in but then doesn't. He talks so much about the archetypal story of dying and resurrecting continually in the face of the ever-present truth that exists outside of man, and in a sense he has been doing this because he is continually renewing his understanding of who Jesus is, as you said you have seen it time and time again over the course of these three years. However, he is still so far in the sense that he has not taken the ultimate step of faith and submitting all that he is to Jesus. I really hope that he does this soon, the angels in heaven and the Christians on earth will rejoice when he does. However, I feel like his worldview is very very close to the Christian worldview, and when he does accept Christ, it will be very similar to how the Old Testament law was fulfilled by Jesus: not entirely torn down because we still need to obey the commandments, but renewed and made perfect. I do get what you mean though, that his entire worldview must be crumbling down, because what's at the top of his "hierarchical structure" is himself. He uses his vast intellect to serve the top of his hierarchy, but what's missing is Jesus at the top and he must instead use his gifts to serve Him.
Anyways, I really enjoyed your comment, thank you for sharing!

Dear Sir Jordan Peterson your heart has an astounding intelligence and it's making you search to find the - Truth. The truth about why we exist. The reason why we die, the reason we cry when someone we love dies... If this were "normal" at this point in history we should ve been used to that reality.. Yet we don't accept it, and that is expressed in many ways... So when you look at what the Bible says about the ressurection you are not only looking at part of the answers to two of the above questions but also putting into perspective what God has in store for those who are willing to get to know him as He is. Please check that promise in the book of - Psalms 37:29.

Though you'll never read this, Jordan... Yet, kudos to you for valuing Reason and Logical analysis of the claim... and giving yourself the additional time for acquiring and weighing all possible information and evidences both pro and con to the question... before approaching, step by step, a conclusion. Too many... as seen below in all the emotive faith-based "witnessing" of what NONE of these people actually witnessed... simply rely on feelings having invested little if any time to carefully and objectively studying and researching the historical and spiritual evidences and their cultural contexts influencing all such. You state perfectly the concept of the historical and the narrative occasionally touching, for this is certainly true. But we have to very carefully approach such instances to best determine where, how and to what degree such "touching" might have occurred.
I have invested many years to this key question, having first acquired as best I am able a foundational understanding of the historical, cultural and religious context of 1st-Century Judaism as well as ... most importantly ... how such context acted upon all the parties involved (e.g., the "apostles," Saul/Paul, Saul's disciples [e.g., the actual Gospel Writers]) considering THEIR self-serving motivations and biases in founding a new religion with themselves at its head. For we must both acknowledge and carefully consider the fact that everything we think we know of the historical Yeshua (including most notably His fake name, "Jesus") comes almost exclusively through the filter of Saul and his very-biased disciples, none of whom ever met... much less walked with... the historical Yeshua. Everything we find in the New Testament, with extremely rare exception (e.g, Epistle of James, perhaps), is all HEARSAY. Perhaps the closest we will ever get to Yeshua's actual words and nature... is found in the Anti-Gnostic Gospel of Thomas, which isn't even part of the New Testament.
And as mentioned briefly above... oh, the irony of hearing Christians endlessly proclaim how well they know their "Jesus," while ignorant of the glaring fact that this wasn't even His name! I mean... think about it: How well can you claim to know someone... whose name you don't even know?!
As regards the Resurrection... you unknowingly put your finger on it perfectly, for indeed the historical touches the narrative... but does not merge with it.
Yeshua was the literal begotten Son of God... though exactly who and what the literal "God of Israel" is, is not understood, for here as well... the historical touches but does not merge with the narrative. But... for purposes of this reply... it is sufficient to state that, as also occurred elsewhere in ancient history, Yeshua was indeed a true demi-god (half Human / half "God"), which gave Him very special, even supernatural, qualities, capacities and abilities. Thus... as also evidenced by a careful reading of the Gospels, properly giving more historical credence to the earliest of the Synoptic Gospels, the Gospel of Mark, and next, Matthew, in which there is no mention is of Yeshua's body being pierced with a spear, Yeshua simply ... "died." This is unusual in the extreme because, as history bears out, such crucifixion takes far more hours to result in death than indicated... which is why the bones were broken in the other two so as to hasten death. He is then taken down and immediately handed over to His female disciples. And then, after a day (the Sabbath), Yeshua leaves (as we are told) the tomb on Monday morning (that's only about 36 hours... a day and a-half... not "three days"). Given all this... it seems far better evidenced that Yeshua was not resurrected from the dead but, instead, was revived and never died.
And this occurred for a very KEY purpose entirely missed by the "apostles" and ALL of Christianity ever since... though Yeshua makes the purpose very clear in the Synoptic Gospels. But the "apostles" never understood His parables and, thus, were never given the deeper teachings He gave his TRUE disciples (yes... the "apostles" were NOT part of Yeshua's inner circle), which is why they were only taught in parables they never understood:
10 And the disciples came , and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given .
12 For whosoever hath , to him shall be given , and he shall have more abundance : but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath .
13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand . (Matthew ch. 13, vss.10-13)
Yet... did not Yeshua ONLY teach the "apostles" in parables? And did Yeshua not have to EXPLAIN every single one of those parables to them... because "...seeing (they) see not; and hearing (they) hear not, neither do they understand"? It's glaringly apparent, when examined rationally, that these words were intended for the "apostles," who couldn't even understand the simplest of parables and, thus, never received the "mysteries of the kingdom of heaven." And from that we can only conclude such "mysteries" were given... to others who could and did. And THAT is why these "apostles" live their entire lives anticipating and awaiting Yeshua's "Second Coming"... never knowing that that "Second Coming" had already come and gone... and they were left behind! Yes... you heard right... Yeshua's Second Coming and the true Mystery of the Kingdom of God ... came and went without them.
Yeshua's mission had nothing to do with what the "apostles" and Saul later claimed: He never came to Earth to establish a new religion nor to "save" the world from sin and being an unneeded and unprophesied "Savior" of it and us. ALL of this was concocted decades later... a slow and thorough process of reinvention and fanciful fabrication by the "apostles" and Saul... with them at its head, of course.

When I first read the prophecies in Daniel and Rev., I not only didn't understand them, I thought they were mythical beasts and had no place in the Bible. I was 30 at that time (1985), and throughout all of the church services I went to, not once were those prophecies ever preached.
In 2017, God got my attention, and directed me to reread those prophecies and the others, but this time was different. He gave understanding of what those creatures were and what they meant, as well as understanding the others too. No one can read those prophecies, with understanding, and conclude anything other than that they were handed down by God.
They weren't put there to entertain us. Their sole purpose is so that we may know that not only is God real and the truth, but that His word is worthy of our trust and faith. He proves Himself to us through those prophecies (over 1800 of them), and verifies His plan of salvation through the giving of His Son.
God doesn't want or expect blind faith. He wants people to understand Him through the written word He has given us, and to build faith on understanding the truths that are in it.
For Jordan Peterson, the prophecies are where the metaphysical meets the real world, and prove that God, Christ and salvation are not fairy tales. It is all as real as real can be.

He's like Kanye West, who doesn't know much about God yet decided to preach to others while letting his wife teach girls to be sluts. Jesus said you should take the lowest seat when attending a feast. Famous new Christians assume they have special anointings and go right to the front, where they do a lot of damage.

Seems his intellectuallism depends on his 5 senses. If we reflect on the history of science, we will realize that it is illogical to think that what we see is all there is. Seeing is limited by the instruments we have on hand during a specific period of time.

When truth confronts you, it is scary...it's an irritant but in the best way possible. The only thing that can hinder truth is the dishonesty we are willing to accept to justify the wrong we do. Anyone seeking truth, must be humble and intellectually honest to have any hope in having their eyes opened. Truth...like death, is scary to consider and confront...but what comes after it is a lot better than anyone of us could have imagined. I pray Mr. Peterson continues his study and remains humble enough to accept the truth of JESUS the CHRIST....and the truth will set him free.

Dear Jordan, I can understand as to how your intellect feels as to how it has to explain and rationalise everything. You can obviously recognise that you are trying to capture faith and put it in a bottle. That obviously cannot happen, and we read as to how faith cannot be explained. However when you incorporate the historical events that followed as a result of the resurrection, then it becomes obvious that if Jesus had not appeared to the 500 people over 40 days, then Peter would have gone back to his fishing boat, and he would not have confronted the Roman Empire with an armed force of a few other unarmed men and women. The proof is that he won under the teaching of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit.
Religion has twisted and perverted that, ever since Christianity has been politically bottled since the 3rd century. See David Pawson’s concise history of 2000 years of Christianity for details.
Look inside your heart for the truth. You will find it. What you do with it from there is your responsibility. God has a plan for you, he has given you individual and special talents, it is down to you alone to use them to His glory, not yours. When you realise that, you will be free.
    God bless you.🙏

Confronted the Roman empire? He joined them... how was he never punished and why was he wanted for heresy by his own fellow disciples? He lusted for power and security and got it there.
