  • What is up guys and girls!
    We are coming at you from La Ventana, Mexico this time where Reckless Riders ( www.recklessridersrhodes.com ) is for the winter season, experiencing as much about foiling as possible!
    Today we will be learning how to switch our stance on a wingfoil or wingsurf. Call it what you will...
    Whether your are trying to get into switch stance or out of it the steps remain the same and hopefully the tips I give you in this video will help you get used to this maneuver as fast and as smoothly as possible!
    Some of the key points are:
    1. Head downwind
    2. Get low on the foil
    3. Make a pop motion with your board while switching
    4. Keep the wing higher for stability
    Hopefully this video helps you find that missing piece to master this important step in wingfoiling and if you do enjoy the video please subscribe to the chanel, drop a like and leave a comment with any questions or suggestions. If you think someone you know will benefit from this video then please feel free to share the love and knowledge!
    See you on the water!

    Two main points that made my switches consistent was to always look forward at the horizon, never look down and as soon as you have switched power the wing to pick up speed to keep it more stable as you finish the switch. Hope this helps.

      That is very correct! Looking where you want to go is important in anything you do in wingfoiling. And power always helps stabilize your foil.
      I should note however, that powering up the wrong way out of a switch will have the opposite effect with a lot of beginner. That why I mention keeping the wing higher so that it pulls you more upwards rather than off the board.
      Once you are at a good level of course this doesnt matter.

    nice instructions and demonstrations. For me I did find it better to be high on the foil when switching stance after/during the jibe, as it allowed more time to make the transition ..when the foil was low, I kept coming down back to the water off foil..being high allowed for more errors/ adjustments

      Makes sense but as I said you start low and then throw it up. So at the point of switching you are high on the mast. You could do it either way but the way I showed here tends to help out people that are not fully comfortable yet and the drop feeling from starting high usually has a bad effect. I hope that makes sense. Basically both way are the same I just find this one more comfortable.
      Keep having fun on the water!

    I have watched all of your You Tube video Wingfoiling progressions. A few questions as a beginner on wing size and straps. Would advice can you give me selecting my own wing ( 72KG and senior) and what about starting with foot straps as i learn to water start and ride.

      Hello! I am glad you enjoy the videos.
      Wing size really depends on a number of things. Such as windspeed, level of rider, etc.
      However, I find a 4m wing to be a good all arounder for people your size.
      As for footstraps, they are completely optional. You could be a pro wingfoiler and still not use straps. They mainly make your pumping easier and are necessary for aerial moves and extreme maneuvers. Footstraps however take away the ability to move around on your board and make small adjustments, for example in waveriding.
      A good middle ground can be using only the front straps. This can help with starting sinker boards and pumping up easier but still allows freedom in your back foot.
      I hope that helps! Enjoy your riding

    thx for the great expanations ! I will try hard ! One question is left: I learned wingfoiling with front straps mounted. So my foil is set up for a stance where I stand before my back footstrap (not in use, last back position), same as you show when stepping out of the back strap before switching. If your foil setting is perfectly balanced for using front and back straps, don´t you get into a imbalanced position, kind of front loaded, when switching into this prepare-to-footswitch position ?

    • @kyriakosgiakoumaroswingandwind
      @kyriakosgiakoumaroswingandwind  Před 11 měsíci

      Dont forget there are multiple things that affect the lift and balance of a foil. Position, speed and weight distribution being the main ones. You can adjust either to be nicely balanced in different scenarios.
      Also many times people that have all straps wont actually use the back unless going for an aggressive move. Myself for example I often have my back foot out of the strap when going at high speeds or trying to upwind a lot.
      To not get into this too much my advise to you is dont worry about it and just adjust where you put your weight on the board, changing your foot a step forward or back should not make such a massive difference that you cannot control your board.

      @kyriakosgiakoumaroswingandwind  Před rokem +1

      Learning probably without. With give you many more option to get comfortable and to get used to how the foil reacts to different movements.
      Straps, even at a high level, are only necessary if you want to start jumping or for very aggressive moves. Otherwise they are completely optional

    Switch stance is when you ride on you weak side. What you are talking about is toe-side stance.
