£6.95 from CPC Farnell and replacement tips are 50p or so. A great product but the tip on mine wore out fast. Easy and cheap to get a new tip though. It does stink on its first use.

From what I can see (based on the time it takes to melt the solder), that thing seems to go well above 420°C so, be careful with very old boards. The key with desoldering pumps is to keep them clean, very clean.
Yeah it is a hot iron, probably a lot hotter than a 40w as it was advertised. I've used it a few times since filming this and as long as you are careful it is pretty good desoldering pump to use. I recapped an arcade monitor chassis in half the time it would have normally have taken me. Cheers for watching and commenting.
@@GoodwinsPlace The Anesty ZD-915 would be the next step, it's £70 and works really well for the price. But 70 quid is hard to justify if you're only modding from time to time or you're not selling modded consoles.

I have a separate solder iron and then that pump pen type suction tool, I find that desoldering modern stuff it is practically useless as everything is so tiny...but I probably just need more practice, I have used on on switch and DS consoles, so maybe that's my issue haha, I think flux and a wick is needed for the more complicated stuff. Gonna stick to older tech for practice though from now on, so this tool would be so handy. Great video 👍
If you're doing surface mount take a look at my soldering station video, the heat gun on that is great for the newer consoles and smaller components. Cheers for watching.
I got one of these myself a few months ago and I've used it half a dozen times. It smoked on first use just like yours did, but it has worked consistently well when removing through hole caps etc. Mine has started to get noisy recently, so I don't know how long it will last for.
@@GoodwinsPlace It's the iron making the noise. Still seems to be working OK for now though. Even if it broke tomorrow, I'd still day it was worth £12.99.
Exactly. Everything has an expiry and as long as you get the use out of it then tats good. I'd be tempted to look at what is inside as it can't be that complex.
Stellar idea for a cheap solution. A solder sucker with a soldering iron. just the thing for me.

Yeah that's not bad and the composite output on them is easy too. Not quite RGB but better than the RF.

Yeah for the money I like it. Can't justify spending the big money just yet. It's just a hobby and will build up to something different later on.

Noisy as in the iron or the pump?
I've recapped an arcade CRT chassis and it was great for that.
