    Don't worry about the holder, it won't melt. I have the Anesty ZD-915 which is identical and has served me for the past 2 years with probably something like 600 hours of use. The key is: Keep it clean, very clean and all will be well. Also, if you feel like it's less efficient all of a sudden, check the screwing part, it becomes loose every once in a while.

      Still use it?
      Heating element last all this time without need to replacement?
      Best Regards.

      @@treadmillrepair754 I still do indeed. Heating is fine but I'm about to replace the tip for the 2nd time in 4 years (we're talking a couple of pounds here). I still strongly recommend this desoldering pump. Shame that the price almost doubled... If I remember correctly, I got mine for £70 back then.

      @@SLRModShop Hi, I bought one Hakko 808 many years ago and bought one ZD-915 for replace the Hakko if it fail.
      Hakko never fail, ZD-915 is still in the box, hehehehehe, I bought 30 tips for it.
      Tips last a lot of time.
      Best Regards.

    Literally was just looking at one of these this week as a potential gift for someone! Great timing and great review, it looks really good bit of kit.

    I watched another couple of reviews on this and there was a suggestion that you could have a wee bit of steel wool or similar in the chamber that catches the solder to make sure solder gets caught there

    • @R_T_Ralph
      @R_T_Ralph  Před 2 lety

      thats a good idea, i usually have to clean this out all the time, and if i forget, the part from the tip to the chamber gets blocked. More time on suction is needed, or a hotter temp when using it.

    Having used Pace desolder stations professionally, this looks to a good domestic piece of kit now I am retired. My worry would be getting spares and replacement nozzles. CPC-Farnell do not list a range of different nozzles of different sizes as far as I have so far found. Pace have nozzles of many different diameter bits. Pace also used to recommend a slight oil film be added to the glass tube to prevent molten solder sticking to the tube.

  • @kengrey7263
    @kengrey7263 Před 3 lety +1

    You don't throw the plastic tube away, you just empty it. To remove the tube pull it backwards (away from the iron) and lift it out. The tips have solder at the ends which looks like they are not hollow. You have the spare in case you break it taking it out. I have the same unit..

      Ive done loads of projects since buying it, and i clean it after every use. only once has it clogged up, but very east to clean out.
      If it helps me, i dont mind helping it.

    Great review Ralph. I plan on getting this one. Do you have a link to the extra parts? Thanks :o) I have a feeling some of others you reviewed biggest problem was they did not get hot enough.. Just curious how well does it do on SMDs

    I have the duratool soldering + desoldering combo station. Really useful but a devil to unclog when it gets bunged up

    Just tested the temperature at the tip of mine with an IR camera and disappointingly, it's a lot lower than it should be, the display reading is clearly wrong, On "480c", it measures just 243c... :(
    My Antex soldering shows the specified temperature on the IR camera, so clearly there's a problem with my Duratool

    I would order one if only CPC provided full spares support, especially the tlps and filters. I have yet to find anyone supplying these parts.

      @@R_T_Ralph Thanks Ralph. In the advert for them they only mention the ZD552 desoldering tool. I notice these are 1mm nozzles rather than the 2mm ones used on Duratool's manual desoldering device similar to the one you showed.

      @@mikestrange6969 they do have others, and ive just looked and no 2mm. maybe a modification to a 1.3mm by drilling out the centre a little could help.

      @mikestrange6969 Před 2 lety

      I don't want 2mm as it is much too large, just one of the reasons to upgrade from Duratool D01849.

    While I can't easily find this exact model, I've ordered another "brand", which is basically the exact same insides, just a different outside design.
    I too am fed up with solder wick and solder sucker thingies.
    One thing I'm looking forward to is recycling the solder that is collected!
    I made a small metal solder melter thing where, if I'm working on something where I need to solder a lot of wires, I can quickly flux and tin the wires by first dipping into a little jar of Rosin flux, then dip into the melted solder. Works a charm.
    With this new device, I'll be able to collect a lot more solder.
    Waste not, want not, I say. LOL

    • @R_T_Ralph

      you will love it, unless you dont de-solder, then its just a cocktail stirrer that shocks when plugged in. Joking aside, it has to be retro repairing essential kit.

    What 8s with these people who just don't place the desoldering gun in the holder and then play with it more. He won't have this long when the heating element goes or the vaccum pump dies.
