  • YLLAS LOG CABINS. FINLAND.
This is a quick video to show you a log cabin that we stayed in 19th-26th January 2014, whilst in Yllas finland. We booked through Inghams and had a fantastic time.
If you have any questions about the cabins or Yllas itself, we will try to answer any queries you may have. I am also going to be uploading further footage of our time skiing and skidooing etc!

So I just got back from an amazing week at Inghams log cabins in yllas Äkäslompolo. I can’t believe a year has past since I posted some questions here and the holiday is over already 😪
Much to our surprise we were given this exact log cabin shown here on your video . Daisy I believe is name of the cabin and it is ideal for 2 people very warm and cozy with all the facilities needed for self catering. As it shows in this video . If anybody is thinking of going I’d certainly recommend going . There’s so much you can do from husky safaris, snowmobiling , reindeer safari, skiing , ice hotel (which looked amazing btw )
All which we did and more . The northern lights is a must see it blew us away with the best natural light show you we will never forget . Clothing wise we bought all our gear to go . I had like 6 different jumpers fleece, wool , 2 sets of thermals and 2 ski bottoms . I was plenty warm enough , we had the thermal suites in our package deal and tbh we didn’t need them with what we had was warm enough . Temps fell to -20 maybe lower at night . If anybody needs a good pair of boots I can really recommend salomon toundra pro . I know they are expensive but I was the only person with warm feet the whole week not once did they let cold in with a good pair of thermal thick socks. We will definitely be going back and I look forward to our next visit .

I filmed it very quickly on a gopro and forgot to remove fish eye, sorry!
We felt it was expensive where we were (and we go to the alps every year!)
Get it booked youll love it!!

This is fantastic....too bad you used a fisheye lens (makes it more difficult to get a good perspective), but what a great little place; looks so cozy. I bet you had a great time. I want to go there, now! Is it expensive?

Hi was this log cabin the smaller one suited for 2 ? We looking to go to Yllas would you recommend here , we looking to do most the excursions, husky , northern lights Safari, skiing cross country skidoo ect . any advice would be on the trip would be much appreciated, we looking to go for a week in January .

Hi, this cabin had three beds if I remember rightly. It's just right for two people.
We absolutely loved the place, its beutiful in its own unique way. It's not a place to go out drinking and partying. theres about 4bars/restaurants and they're very expensive as is most of Scandinavia. 9euros a pint was the going rate. it makes the French alps a bargain :-)
The excursions are a must, you will certainly enjoy them. We went as a dedicated ski holiday and tagged the excursions on as extras.
The downhill skiing isn't the most challenging at all but we knew that before we went.
If we were to go back again, it would be for a cross country ski holiday and again, would do excursions aswel as they're just good fun.
In January, it's absolutely freezing. the whole time we were there the warmest the thermometer on the balcony showed was -28C.
You need good equipment to enjoy yourselves. Well worth investing in quality snow boots, Quality down jacket, quality trousers and quality mittens with thin gloves underneath aswel as hat and balaclava.
My partner lindsay got frost nip on her cheek the second day, it blistered up and was horrible. That being said, it was a particularly cold snow stormy day with windchill ontop of the fell that day and she failed to cover her cheek up properly.
I hope I haven't painted a bad picture, it's just that you need to be prepared incase the weather is as cold as we experienced.
on a clear day the views and colours are out if this world. Purple/orange haze on the horizon for most if the day is breathtaking.
All in all its a place I'd certainly recommend to anyone. Just book it youll be glad you did!!! :-)

+MG Velo sounds ideal for us , we don't really drink and we like the quiet I believe January is said to be a good time to go as it's quieter so less people on the slopes ect . So are you saying we should buy equipment before we go ? Do they not provide thermal gear and boots or is it just better to buy these ?

Yes at times there was only us in the slopes, it was magical!!
Yes you can use the provided suits and boots but it's all about personal preference.
We wore the suits and boots on the skidoo and I'll be honest, it's the coldest I've ever been. without exaggeration, it must have been -50c with windchill as it was mega windy(the ski lifts close when it gets windy so bare that in mind if planning on downhill skiing and make alternative arrangements if weather is looking bad on certain days)
Getting off the skidoo was a task for everyone at it was almost as if the fluid in the knees was about to freeze despite the engine providing much needed warmth, it was a strange sensation and funny to watch everyone else in the same predicament!!
It was very quiet when we were there in resort in January but it all added to the experience.
Going out at night with the camera and tripod was something I'll never forget, pitch black stood in a clearing in the woods somewhere, absolutely freezing, flask of tea(plastic don't use metal!!) and snapping away was just fantastic!!
Down on the lake on a night is also a good spot for photos etc.
check out our "action" video and at the end are a series of photos I took.
