  • In this video we show you things to do in Helen, GA. We also found a new place for cabins and camping in the town of Helen, GA. Hearthstone Cabins And Camping. It is the closest campground to Helen located only one mile from the town. It's a very nice and quiet campground with a rustic feel. The maximum length RV the campground can accommodate is 40 feet. Follow our adventure as we tour Helen and show you some of the amazing bars, shops and sights there are in this small German town.
    We also give you a look at a traditional Venezuelan food called arepas and show you how its prepared and served.
    While visiting one of the local bars in Helen, we made new friends with the live band they had and took over the dance floor for some fun. The links for the live music are below. Special thanks to Peter Lornie who is from Liverpool England and also to Reggie Starrett from Taccoa, Georgia for helping make our time visiting Helen a memorable experience.

    You obviously had a lot of fun, and may be one or the other person did have a sip of german beer too much 🤪😉
    Did they speak german in that town?
    It was funny, cause the video started and after two seconds in I thought: Wait a moment, that sounds like bavarian music... And then I saw the bavarian flag (blue/white), and König Ludwig and Paulaner signs.
    And guess what: I do live in Bavaria, about 120km (75 miles) north of Munich. So I'm pretty familiar with the bavarian culture, the music and of course the fantastic bavarian beer.
    So I will have to make a trip to Helen in Georgia, and then I'll try to find someone to speak german with 😄
    Thx for the funny video, the german guy 😉👋🏻

      @RCRVadventures  Před 3 lety +2

      Wow! So this episode must have been awesome for you. Yes, I think we all indulged in German beer. 😂 To be honest, I don’t think there are a lot of German speakers or at least not the staffs. We go every year for Oktoberfest, which is amazing fun, and you will find some German musicians. I’m betting there are more German speaking people there than I’m aware of but since most everyone speaks English they just speak English too. Definitely recommend checking out Helen if you can navigate it. Let us know, maybe we can meet you there and share a drink. Well... not share... I’ll want a full one! 😂😂

    • @5ShotProductions
      @5ShotProductions Před 3 lety +1

      @@RCRVadventures 😄That sounds like a deal to me, we do meet there and have a beer (or two 😉) and then I try my best to not sound like a german speaking english 😂 But it would be very funny to walk through this city and if someones speaks german to join the conversation, of course in german 😉
      I can assure you, the original Oktoberfest here in Munich is something you've never have ever seen before. So if you ever do have the chance to get to the real Oktoberfest, give me a call, and we can team up and have fun together.
      Every foreigner I have taken to the Oktoberfest was blown away, and sometimes a little bit sluggish and "headached" the next morning 🤪
      And, as I was born in another part of Germany, the state is called "Rheinland-Pfalz", I also can give a another tip:
      Every year in September there is a huge festival in a city called "Bad Dürkheim", this festival is called "Wurstmarkt" (the one to one translation would be "sausage market" 😂) and this festival is like the "Oktoberfest", with one major difference: There is no beer, there's only wine (because Rheinland-Pfalz is very famous for its wine), and this "Wurstmarkt" is the biggest wine festival in Europe.
      Very often visited by a lot of US-citizens, because the Ramstein Air Base is only a few kilometers away. And most of the people from the US aren’t used to drink wine out of a so called "Dubbeglas", it's basically a huge wine glass, 0.5 litres or 1 pint (I hope this is the correct comparison), so normally you do end up in drinking at least 3 to 4 Dubbegläser, which would be a gallon. And most of the foreign people can't stand anymore after drinking a gallon of wine, so then comes the time of the MP, and the US Military Police is very strict when they see that a US soldier is drunk (I mean: Really drunk 🤪), so they come with 6 people and literally throw the drunk soldier on the back of the Humvee and off they are.
      I grew up in a town located about 4 miles away from the town in which they host the Wurstmarkt, so I'm very used to see drunk foreigners and after visiting over 33 Wurstmarkt-festivals in my entire life I never had more fun than I had with slightly drunk US soldiers 😂👍🏻 They always were so kind and nice, and it was always interesting for me to talk to them because my Dad is also a retired colonel of the german army (5. Tank Division), so I'm used to see military stuff, military people and can for that reasons talk to soldiers a little bit different than people who don't have a military background...
      Wow, that was a long story, sorry for that.
      So now you know what to do: Visit the "Oktoberfest" in Munich and visit the "Wurstmarkt" in Bad Dürkheim.
      If you ever will be in Germany I insist being the host of your stay here, it would be a pleasure and a honor.
      Kind regards, Philipp

      @RCRVadventures  Před 3 lety +2

      WOWWW! That sounds amazing! I love learning about other cultures. Ok, so if we ever make it out to Germany we know to only come in either September or October. 😂 I agree with you about the soldiers. I come from a military family. My father was in the Navy for 25 years. Retired Lt Commander. My step brother was in the army. Retired Lt Colonel and worked in the pentagon. My step father was in the army and my kid brother was in the Navy. People always ask me why I never served. I tell them I served 18 years under my father. 😂
      Thanks again for sharing with us. You make me feel like a big CZcamsr chatting with people in other countries. 😂 So cool!

    • @5ShotProductions
      @5ShotProductions Před 3 lety +1

      @@RCRVadventures 😂 The question "Why didn’t you served" is very common to me, I heard this question at least a million times. And I tell the people a similar thing as you did and one thing more: My dad served, his dad served as a Major in the German Army during the 2. World War, he was wounded in Stalingrad and came back two years after the war was over. And there my granddad must have seen terrible things as he was never be able to talk about the things he saw and probably did. So I always say: My family has served enough years for the german military, why do I join? My dream job was many many years to be a helicopter pilot in the german navy, but the height limit was back then the problem, because they had a maximum height of 6 foot and 5 inches, and as I'm 6 foot and 6 inches I was just by a little too tall for being a pilot. So I began to fulfill my other dream job: Editing and filming.
      Haha, Matt, you are a huge american CZcamsr talking to his german subscriber, you have every reason to feel cool.
      I will now take my lunch break and watch another video of yours 😉
      Philipp 👋🏻

    • @RCRVadventures
      @RCRVadventures  Před 3 lety +2

      Wow! Yes, one can only imagine what your grandfather went through. It’s very impressive that one of your dreams was videography and editing and now that’s what you do. I don’t think many people can look back and say they achieved their former dreams or goals. You should be very proud. I wanted to serve in the military when I was younger too. I wanted to be a fighter pilot. Admittedly, it was probably because I watched the movie TopGun too much as a kid. 😂 This CZcams journey has been amazing so far. It’s sometimes hard to believe we’re only 7 months in. The race for 1k subs was stressful as that seems to be the benchmark everyone shoots for. Now that we have met that goal I find I am more able to enjoy the process and have fun. I really do love doing this and the prospect of being able to grow this channel and the community we have made is really exciting. Thank you for being a part of it.

    I have a cabin near Helen and know the area well. 15 years ago it was a great place for adults to relax and enjoy the area and it was a little like a Bavarian town. You could find authentic German clocks, Tapestries, beer steins, etc. in the shops and the streets were not crowded. If you were a little tipsy, the police would take you back to your hotel but now they take you to their jail and DUI checkpoints are everywhere. The town has turned into a mass of cheap T-shirt and trinket shops, overpriced poor quality food and families with wayward children. The road (only one main road) is bumper to bumper and the sidewalks are packed. Keep valuables close by because Helen is the #1 city for crime in Georgia. For those of us that knew what it once was, it is a shame to see what it has become.

    Just came back from Helen. Wanted to let you know we were very disappointed with Hearthside Cabins and Camping. We stayed there because we came across your video suggesting this place when making our plans. Yes Helen was great, the town was great, the food was great, but the campground was a big disappointment. Yes it was small but the layout is awful. It's ONE WAY IN AND THE SAME WAY TO GET OUT. The road is NARROW and people with large 5th wheels really had a hard time. We have a SMALL 20 foot trailer and it was hard for us to maneuver down that road and into our site. And the sites were disappointing. Right behind where you park your trailer is a CLIFF so you have to be sure you don't go back too far. And in front of the spot is a LOT of ROCKS and then there is a main road right in front of you with cars zooming by so you really can't walk anywhere. I have 2 little dogs and it was hard to walk them because of all the rocks on the narrow road where you are parked. And like I said, then you have the cliff behind you and the street in front of you. Our highlight was watching people navigate their big rigs into their spots. Lots of forward and backward motion because you just don't have space because you are on this skinny entrance road. It took them a LONG TIME to park. Yes it was only a mile away from town but the road to take out of there was hilly and dark and very narrow. This was actually the worse campground we ever stayed at. We were so disappointed we forfeited the 3rd night stay and left. Also, there is no office on premises and the owner never answers the phone. Very very hard to get in touch with them. Sadly, we won't be back. I enjoyed your you tube and yes Helen is fun, but I have to disagree with that campground. Come to find out there were others which were better. Just wanted to let others know before they make the mistake we did.
