No, Marvel wasn't always owned by disney his question is simply stating after 16 years when Marvel released their first stand alone movie in 2008 (Iron Man) this is their first R rated one.
didnt they cut scenes from avengers 1 because they'd get a higher maturity rating which meant they'd get less money? sounds like they've been hindered by rating to me.
