There is no 3 horizontal dots to tap that I can see, only 3 vertical, but it just says report.
I’d love to have this car, but it would be more than I could afford anyway, some amount in 6 digits for sure. The engine didn’t sound like the 427 435 hp though, that would’ve had a solid lifter cam. The 396 425 hp in the 1965 Impala SS was a sold lifter cam with a factory 7000 rpm tach in the instrument panel, showing a 6400 rpm shift point, but it was in a crappy location for any serious use. And btw, the 427 435 hp tri carb engine wasn’t the most powerful 427 offered, far from it. Although Chevrolet wanted everyone to think so, because they didn’t want it in the hands of irresponsible crazy ass baby boomer’s, but was meant for professional racing drivers, and it was considerably more money, along with no added amenities, and so it wouldn’t have made sense to buy it, when it was rated at the same horse power. It was the 427 L-88, that was deceivingly, rated at the same 435 hp, but at only 5300 rpm,. But in actuality it developed 550 + hp at 6400 rpm, and that was with restrictive exhaust manifold’s, that were immediately discarded and replaced with headers. And so with a little added tuning and tweaking, these were easily 600 + hp engines.

Very nice Chevy! I did not know about the Chevy SS angle- I always assumed that they were Impala SSs.

Same deal for the '66 Nova lineup , the '66 was Not a Nova SS , but a Chevy II SS , not a single Nova emblem to be found anywhere in or on the car . There were five Chevy II , three SS and three Super Sport emblems , but no Nova's .

My dad years ago pulled the same trick on my mother lol My dad couldn't get his high performance car she said we need a station wagon well back then you could order anything so he ordered a 68 Dodge Coronet wagon with a 440 automatic in it and it's still tore up the streets fond of memories now as for me about 15 years ago I purchased a 1969 Impala triple black which originally was a 396 car for the person before I got it scattered the motor so when I purchased it it had a 454 in it should have never sold their car what a nice cruiser it was and this one had power windows power brakes power steering air conditioning all the creature comforts

During the years that cars like this could be seen on the street, I only saw three full-size 427 Chevrolet cars. One of them was a Biscayne, and the other two were SS 427 Cars. One detail that I didn't hear mentioned is that the front seat is a "Strato-back" bench seat. It's a bench seat with bucket seat backs, so it looks sporty, and with a wide center fold-down armrest for added comfort. So, that's why it has a column shifter. So, while most Super Sports came with buckets and console shift, the Strato-back bench was an option on any Super Sport and Caprice. I have a 67 Impala SS with the Strato-back bench, and it's my favorite seat for those cars, since it gives you a comfy place to rest your right arm, or you can flip up the armrest and sit next to your date if you want to.

My '67 Caprice 2 dr hdtp had the 327 w/400 auto trans posi traction buckets/console factory A/C, blue/black vinyl top/blue interior (blue was fading so I painted her black like this one). My dad (our garage) had a 67 ss 396, it was good shape no rust, no dents, in the 60's 70's 80's we ran a garage and junk yard we pulled the engine and crushed it. Watching this is hard to do after what we did. We seen all muscle cars come and go just like other cars. 64.5 mustang nice we sold for $1250. 66 and 67ss chevells came and went just as easy. Why couldn't we see into the future just a little bit. Dad sold a 57chevy in good shape for $625. It's so sad we remember those things...

@@leeketner6488 uhm in the 67, if you noticed, the C pillar of the Impala 2 door, became thinned out and more angled compared to 65-66. One of the reasons I admired the Impala’s design cues is that it corresponds with the era of the United States. This is my stricly, MY OPINION, the 58-64 Impala designs signifies the last remaining era of a wholesome America. And when the 65 redesign came out, it’s new rebellious style is a far cry from the conservative 64. That design cue just says America is losing its wholesomeness unto a new generation of chaos, destruction etc..

Many people get the SS427 confused with an Impala Super Sport with a 427 bbc. That hood only came on the SS427, and they are very rare and expensive if one is found. Btw, unusual that it's a column shift car. Every one I've seen were floor consoles.

Because the seat is a bench, it has a column shift. That seat is a bench seat with a center fold-down armrest, and is called a "Strato-back bench" because the backs are the same as the Strato-bucket seat backs. So with the Strato backs, it makes this bench seat look sporty. And the center armrest adds comfort. While most Super Sports had buckets with a floor shift console, the Strato-back bench was optional in any Super Sport and Caprice. I had one in a 67 Impala SS fastback. It's my favorite seat for these cars.

Hi Lou this is one of my favorite Classic Chevys :-)
Of note; the 3 carburetor version of the 427 was L72, not L71. Even though this 425 horsepower monster motor wasn't available in 1967 for the.big Chevys, it WAS available in 1966, 1968 and 1969.
Also, this car features the optional "Strato-Bench" front seat that was styled like the buckets. When you ordered the bench seat and the automatic, you got a column shifter and no center console...like with your featured car

The 1967 Chevrolet was a rather odd year, as well as the following year 1968. I never realized that Chevy made a Super Sport package that was not an actual Impala. I was surprised to see it equipped with a column gearshift rather than the floor console gate shifter. That 427 engine sounded healthy as well. I didn't know that they only made the Super Sport SS package from 1967-1969. Perhaps that's why I never saw a 1970 Chevy in a fastback style. Looked awesome in its Tuxedo Black paint job! Interesting car Lou!

I had a 66 Impala Super Sport with a 396 and turbo hydramatic on the floor console. Wish I still had it and it was restored like this one

Beautiful car and thanks for sharing. These were very rare to see along with the 68 and 69. Technically they are Impalas. Chevrolet sales literature indicated the SS427 equipment could be added to the Impala Super Sport model. It was devoid of the Impala name although the logo is on the rear speaker. In 1969 the SS427 also carried the Impala name. Either way fantastic car that was a delight to see featured.

It came with the Window Sticker as well- it had the bucket seats / 4 speed / console / posi and was Marina Blue with 85,000 miles. Wow Lou, Ron's a very knowledgeable owner! I was just getting curious about these 67 SS 427s and why they offered the 4-barrel L72 425hp 427 in 66, 68, and 69, but left these cars with the same "base" L36 375 hp 427 available in all the normal full-size models. The special hood always hinted toward "Tri-power" of the 435 hp L71 but now it all adds up! I can't wait to see his gold tribute car. Sounds like a prime candidate for an L71 to me.

    • @acarlovonsexron1994
      @acarlovonsexron1994 Před rokem +3

@@loucostabile Thanks Lou, but Ron explained it very well. Essentially, the SS 427s were supposed to be the special model with the hottest version of the 427, the L71. (The L88 was a race engine only ever intended for the Corvette.) But Nader got GM brass to put the kibosh on that engine last minute, so the 1967 SS 427 was basically a special car but without its' special engine.
The engine it got- the L36- could already be ordered in all the full-size models- Biscayne's, Bel-Air's, Caprice's, sedans, station wagons, and confusingly...Impala's with or without the "Super Sport" option. Fortunately, in 68 and 69 they semi-reversed this and allowed the SS 427 to have the L72- basically the L71 but with a single 4-barrel instead of three duals.

Second to last year for fullsize fastbacks. I believe '69 and '70 GM fullsize were all formal roofs. Ford however continued until '70
Those '67-'68s are beautiful cars. I'm surprised that there is no SS or Super Sport nomenclature on the sides of the car. The only problem with black paint on that car is that it kind of hides the SS specific blackout treatment, like between the taillights, and the center of that bright trim running across the lower body side. I've never seen/noticed that bench front seat with the bucket backs and armrest in any GM product!
I do actually remember seeing one of these cars in the early '80s as a teenager in Dayton Ohio. It was gold, and had a black vinyl top, and was sitting for a few weeks or months in a parking lot on Catalpa Road. I distinctly remember seeing the SS 427 badging, and that being the first and only time I ever noticed it on any Chevrolet out in public. One of my friends had a brown with white vinyl top '74 or '75 Camaro which sat broken down in that lot around the same time.
