  • Walthers Mainline continues to be one of the best values in model railroading. Solid great looking products at affordable prices.

I agree about Walthers Mainline products. My only complaint is I wish they made factory decal-applied models (names or number identifiers) since I hate doing my own decals and I am a perfectionist when it comes to this stuff so I always look around for someone who already decaled these.

They do for the proto line. On the box it should read “deluxe” which basically is a complete lights and figures installed ready to run. Of course they’re about $130 a car, ask me how I know this, but they’ve only started this for the special named trains they do each year or so.

Could you do a video if you do pick up the lighting kits? im curious how to take these apart (I bought one years ago and ended up cracking the shell trying to open it up)

I discovered that 85’ passenger cars derail on 22” curves. Are there shorter length passenger cars available? Trying some 72’ foot cars to see if they will run w/o derailing.

The mainline 85’ passenger cars are designed for 18” curves, thus the talgo style trucks. The proto need 24” minimum if you install the longer drawbars, otherwise it’s 26” or 28.”

I’ve never had issues when I ran 22, now it’s 24 and 34 switches. That BLI GS4 didn’t like the Kato “22”, no issues after increasing radius

The thing I don't like the walthers mainline Budd cars is..
They are not really prototypical based on certain roads. Don't get me wrong. They are nice. But in the SP version of these . They are not accurate. Also. That dome is not correct. That's just a santa fe dome slapped with sp colors. I did pre order the rapido sp 3 quarter dome

I like the price, thats what draws me and they are pretty much all thats on the market currently since Scaletrains has been doing nothing with the tooling they have from MTH
