PPG Waveterm A and Wave 2.2 Wavetable Synthesizer from the year 1982.
The Waveterm is the heart of the legendary PPG system and based on an old german computer called Eltec Eurocom II with Motorola 6809 processor.

- storage of sounds on 8" disc
this second WT-A demo video shows a few samples from The Waveterm A library, sample edition and resynthesis.

I really think Waldorf should release a new version of the PPG Waveterm. The Blofeld is nice and all, but it doesn't fully exploit the power of wavetable synthesis.
Imagine this, but using the technology available today. Make it have an immense amount of wave manipulation features, a nice easy to use GUI, and a hands on approach. Oh, and a nice big screen like this.
The Waveterm is a real beauty, and it's a shame it was short lived. I hope Waldorf creates something from it's legacy.

this is beautiful. I cant imagine what it would feel like to use that guy in real life. i am amazed at the power of this guy especially for the time. you never see quality sample synths like this anymore and the editing capabilities are on par with the things you see only in software programs. i would to have a devote unit like this.

Great demonstration! Thank you for sharing. Amazing potential w this form of synthesis. Would love to have such a fine Waveterm visual interface for working w my Blofeld. This is my first WT synth and I am very much enjoying the depth of the synthesis.

This machine generates beautiful artifacts when a patch sounds particularly digital.... Isn't this unit incredibly expensive?
