  • In this video I show you the main types of pipes and fittings available in the D.I.Y stores throughout France. Some materials are better than others depending on the situation.
    This also covers how to make crimp style connections on Multicouche and PER pipe
    In the video is a link to another one that explains how you make up slide on collar type connections in PER
    I hope you find this helpful

    Hi Andy. I was aware that that Grahame had asked you to clarify the plumbing situation. I think you've been able to make simple something quite complex. Although I still find it intimidating I think the information given has taken the edge off of the terror. 😀 I'm going to continue plugging your channel till you get over the 1K. 👍🏼

    Super video. I certainly got caught out by the 14 mm pipe trap whilst trying to re-use old British fittings! At the moment I'm trying to work out how you make the flange at the end of copper pipe for radiator valves.

    The most helpful and honest video I have ever seen , thank you so much for taking the time to issue this video. My father was a plumber in the uk and I thought I was reasonably competent but trying to understand the french equivalent is a new ball park all together. Will you or have you done a video on the waste fittings ?

    Electrical Plugs for power Tools. Having spent two years gradually converting my UK plugs for French ones, I decided to buy the female socket that is on the front of my workshop vacuum cleaner. After an hour spent fitting it, I tried the first tool to hand and the French plug didn't fit! Immediate thoughts were that I'd order the wrong part but then I tried the orbital sander that I'd purchased in France and that fit. Looking around my garage I found that tools tended to have different shaped plugs compared to the house. Once I purchased the correct plugs all is fine but this is yet another minor difference that can catch you out.

    • @ajinfrance
      @ajinfrance  Před 16 dny

      @@PaulTurner-z1x that's correct. It maybe the difference between schuko and French plugs. Handily the white shirt extension leads have a dual use plug and a female french socket so you can convert. It's one to watch for though

    Very informative video. Thanks for sharing. Can you tell me why the red and green pipes often have an additional same coloured sleeve on them. I thought I saw them in your video. I've only used the white pipe for all my water systems. Not had any issues with them in 5 yrs so I guess it works.

    • @ajinfrance
      @ajinfrance  Před rokem +2

      Yeah sure the pipes normally have a conduit around them so when they are in the walls or floors they have some protection and can be removed and replaced if necessary. Yes you can certainly use the white for all applications including domestic water hot and cold. 👍

    Thanks for a really useful Vlog Do french taps with flexi tails have a 1/2" fitting the same as the UK? I think the previous owner of my French property has used quite a bit of English plumbing and i need to change the kitchen taps in the near future.

    • @ajinfrance
      @ajinfrance  Před rokem +2

      No they don't. They have a 12/17 thread. Which is a 1/4" thread. Sometimes they supply an adapter. You can buy a brass adapter bush to convert them though available in most DIY stores.

    Great video Andy thanks for the information , one question is PEX the same ad PAR and can you use the same fittings for either

    • @ajinfrance
      @ajinfrance  Před rokem +2

      PEX and PER can be interchanged and the fittings will work. Just make sure the inside diameter of the pipe is the same.
      The white pipe is actually PEX with an extra layer of aluminium in there which is why they use different fittings. Please test one fitting before you do a whole house system on my advice ! 💪👍

      No problem, Leroy Merlin sell pushfit for PER but you need to buy the inserts to strengthen the pipe.

    Hi Andy - are all crimp fittings the same? I noticed some are H, TH, U etc. I assume you cant use 1 crimp tool for all the types?

    • @ajinfrance
      @ajinfrance  Před rokem

      Hi, there are specialist crimps available for different pipes and fittings. However we are just dealing with DIY store available products here. As such the crimp tool will crimp all types commonly available in 90% of the stores. So if you buy the tool from Leroy Merlin's and buy the fittings from Brico depot they will work. Also if you have PEX and multicouche the tool works on both from more or less any manufacturer. Hope that helps. AJ

      @@ajinfrance Many thanks. Is there a difference between PEX and PER pipe? I noticed from DIY web sites that the compression PER fittings are slightly different!! After watching your video Im going to use the push fit and short runs of copper into my new shower to maintain the water flow (planning to use one of the shower plates to attach mixer tap). Im going ot ditch the idea of using crimp and put the cost of th tool towards push fit fittings. Have you gone with a manifold system as this seems a popular and sensible way of creating the plumbing network. Im new to French plumbing and the array of fittings, pipes and 'bits' can be baffling so thanks again for your really helpful video. 😀👍

    • @ajinfrance
      @ajinfrance  Před rokem

      @@thehinshaws7499 in my own house I use a manifold system in the basement for everything. My brother's house which is more normal than mine there is a manifold per bathroom with the feed to each done in 16mm then 12mm for the toilet and basin, 16mm to the shower. Using pushfit is an easy way just as long as you use the inserts, either plastic or metal. There are chemical differences in PEX and PER mainly affecting temperatures and flexibility but generally speaking it's the sizes you are worried about for the internal dimension for crimps. For pushfit the outside diameter is critical but that is standardised so 16mm copper is the same as 16mm PEX.
      The multicouche (white) is PEX outer, aluminium layer then PEX inside layer for info. The solid red and blue is usually PER. Hope that helps.
