What is the SCALE OF A MAP ? Explanation and exercises. (by Mrs Ruault-Djerrab)

This video explains what a map scale is (topographic, geological). I also added application exercises with map extracts to see how you can determine the scale, or calculate the distance between two points, whether on a map or in reality.
This video was put online as part of the 1st year Geology Tutorials of the SNV License at the University of Guelma in Algeria (Teacher: Ms. Ruault-Djerrab).

Si vous n'avez pas d'échelle sur votre carte topographique, vous pouvez la calculer mais vous avez besoin d'avoir une distance réelle (= D) indiquée sur votre carte ou autour de la carte (en général on trouve un petit rectangle gradué avec la distance indiquée en m ou en km). Il vous suffit ensuite de mesurer la distance d avec votre règle et enfin vous pouvez calculer l'échelle en utilisant la formule E = d/D.
