  • One of the most frequent questions our customers ask is how we organize our streamers before heading out on the water. In this video, Kelly does just that and breaks down the various options of fly storage for boat and wade fisherman alike.
You can find most of the fly boxes that Kelly talks about in this video here: www.slideinn.com/store/fly-bo...

Kelly (or Johnny). You should sell Kelly’s two boxes with his favorites as a bundle. I imagine it would be a hit even if it would be a little expensive (a lot of flies).

Good to see I am on track as I have been working on filling the "inventory boxes" at home, and honing in on a more fine tuned streamer box on the wade. I have found using a couple small boxes with used/wet flies has been good, with white flies being in their own cup. I really like that foam addition on the outside for flies to dry, I think I might have to DIY a streamer box like that. Thanks again for all you do Kelly and crew!

Thanks for the great advice.👍👍 That’s an impressive collection of flies! I have 1 bag with about 6 small boxes of big flies..but I’m working on it! I’ll get on the vice! 😂 Have a great weekend Kelly and Slide Inn crew. 🎣 (I had to edit because I do have about 20 flyboxes Full of smaller flies..buggers,etc. but I’m starting to mostly go bigger for big largemouth..and it’s working. Your Shovelhead line works like a dream to get my large flies out there and deep. Caught some hawgs lately! Thanks again!)

Lets see, I'm thinking Kelly has a couple of thousand dollars just in fly boxes. Too bad cigar boxes are so hard to come by these days, I could save a lot of money. Good video guys, keep them coming.

Just re-uped on my Peanut envy's, bought 37 of them, love that fly in size 8 the mini version, the fish will come from afar just to tear the shit out of it even if they aren't trying to eat it they viciously shake the crap out of it. Caught two yesterday one was 17in the other was 20 inches , I catch them often between that size the biggest on that fly so far is a 23 incher but I catch at least a couple hundred fish a year that size. It helps that I live ten minutes from my main spot and a decent brown spot is 3 mins walk from my backdoor in national forest land on the Deschutes river.

@@BROWLANDROSS I know I commented a year ago but I caught two yesterday in near Blizzard conditions on the Fall River in Oregon. Since it's a little further down the street from my house, one was 20. The other was like 14. They were both wild. Caught it on the number eight black peanut envy

Best time of year to fish the fish. Don't mind the snow and cold. As long as your guides aren't freezing then you're fishing

I just sorted out and indexed all my streamers and Euro nymphs, I had know idea that I bought the same flies online several times over... just because i would store them, here, there, anywhere... LOL!!! and forget that I alredy owned them! 67 years old... that's my excuse 🙂

It looks like you are only throwing streamers. I'm interested in how you organize your drys and nymphs. By color, type of fly or size? Of course top water flys are in a separate box from water column fly's.

To everyone watching this video in 2023, do not take away that you need to tie and crank out tons of flies. It's almost the worst thing you can do. If you're buying flies, just make sure to consider your waterways and then curate a box from there but keep in mind there are many different types of actions in articulated streamers, and you should cover ALL of those bases before you start adding a dozen of the same fly in the same color. It's a waste of money, and it won't help you on the water.
Make sure to have jig flies, glide flies, swing flies, jerk flies- think about where in the water column or structure you are going to be fishing and choose appropriately.
I love Kelly's patterns- but they aren't a one fly solution to catching trout on streamers. Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
If you're tying flies- you really need to go even deeper because you have the ability to custom tune each of those flies. Don't sit down and crank out 12 size 2 Peanut Envy's because what if they aren't biting jig flies? Russ Maddin has a great lesson about this (old friend of Kelly- originator of the Circus Peanut, Kraken, South Bound Trucker) and the first commercially available articulated streamer. It's weapon design. There is nothing generic or generalized about it.
All that to say you need to have that 1 fly when you need it. It doesn't matter if you have 6 boats full of flies if they aren't the right flies at the right time.
