I am HONORED to have watched Pete Rose play the game of baseball the way it was intended to be played (100% intensity day in and day out while displaying an incredible skill base).

To be perfectly honest I believe Rose being in limbo of the Hall actually keeps him relevant and on everyone's mind so if he doesn't make it for now isn't a huge deal because we are talking about it 35 years after his banishment from baseball. He is the Hit King and in most people's opinion he is a HoF'er already so.

There’s the irony. MLB is obsessed with everyone betting on baseball to benefit themselves. He’s not in the game anymore and hasn’t been for a long time. It’s time to forgive and put the hits king in the HOF where he belongs. Do it now before he dies.

Pete claims to have only bet on his team to win, but he’s also a consummate liar.
For argue’s sake, let’s take him at his word.
What does not betting on your team tip off to the mafia?
Also, betting on your team to win a single game could cause tremendous damage to your team in the long run (playing a hurt player, keeping a pitcher in longer than necessary, etc.)
Personally, I think they should let him into the Hall of Fame but have half of his exhibition document his achievements and the other document his failures. Don’t sugar coat anything. Use it as the ultimate teaching example.

Doe he belong in HOF HE says NO! Baseball HOF has character, integrity and sportsmanship and it matters. Betting while being a manager is I think worse than betting and being a player. But betting on baseball has been the "death penalty" crime in baseball for over a century, the one thing that people in the game CAN NOT do.
Rose did bet on baseball, lied about it for years, and only came "clean" when he was trying to sell a book (My Prison Without Bars).
And after all these years, he still doesn't get it - at 1:38: "All I did is bet on baseball" - the "death penalty" crime!

I know there are Pete hater’s out there. So let me figure this out. His gambling must’ve affected his hitting since he only has 4,256 hits and three batting titles (more hits than anyone else). Surely it affected his fielding since he only won two Gold Gloves. Had to affect his desire to win since he only has three World Series rings and Season and World Series MVP awards. All that bad stuff and they had the nerve to nickname him “Charlie Hustle”🤨

Subjective. Point is that he violated Rule 21 which is prominently posted all over dugouts and clubhouses and then lied about it for 10 years. He also agreed to the lifetime ban. Read “Charlie Hustle” by Keith O’Brien. It is the best book ever written about Rose and it tells the truth. Bottom line is that he will never get in during any of our lifetimes.

In my opinion, it’s not really about gambling so much as it is the way he’s handled it. Yes, he finally admitted to gambling but it’s some of the stuff he says and does to this day that I find suspect. There are some things that he’s still not truthful about, or it’s always somebody else’s fault regarding this or that. I don’t think the sincerity/humility chips reside in his brain housing group. After watching this documentary, I kept thinking to myself he just doesn’t get it. JMO

Considering the way all the sports leagues embrace gambling now, I would have to say that it's probably time for Rose to be made eligible again.
    BUT.
Then you have to take into consideration who Pete Rose is. He's still a lying con man who does whatever he can to make a buck. He's a consummate hustler. I don't want him to be able to profit off being able to add "HOF" to the end of his autograph. I also don't want to hear him deliver an induction speech, which will be self-serving and full of denials.
So make Pete Rose eligible and induct him into the HOF. As soon as he's no longer around.

I don't understand why Pete has to be reinstated. He knew the.rules, broke them, then lied about it for 15 years. He deserves the banishment from baseball. The real issue is with the HOF, which is not part of MLB, making a rule after his banishment that no suspended player can be voted in. Pete's records are legit, and he belongs in the HOF. Put pressure on them to change the rule made up after the fact, not MLB, which had their gambling rule in effect since the 1920's.

It's a far cry for MLB to throw around the word integrity. Rampant racism, steroid use, and greed have plagued the league for decades.
I'm not old enough to remember Pete playing. All time hits leader (aside from Ichiro) should mean something, but he also knew the rule and chose to disregard it. Pete had the cake, but threw it away instead of eating it.

    • @bobculwell5375
      @bobculwell5375 Před 7 dny +1

Yes. It’s never been against the rules for fans to bet on baseball.
For more than a century, it’s been abundantly clear to everyone that players can not bet on baseball and to bet on a game in which they enjoy a duty to perform will yield a lifetime banishment.
There’s no incompatibility between saying people in the game must refrain from behaviors permitted to the fans.
Airlines serve alcohol to their passengers during flights, but the pilots may not imbibe.
That’s not hypocrisy; it’s common sense.
Baseball does the same thing. A fan gets in too deep to organized crime and it’s lamentable, but the game is uninjured.
A player, manager, or umpire gets in deep to the Mafia and the honesty of the game is gone. That happens, and the game will die.

The national baseball hall of fame is a museum. A museum by definition from goggle is a building in which objects of historical, scientific, artistic, or cultural interest are stored and exhibited. Pete rose is significant for what he has done in baseball as a player and what he has done as a gambler. He should be allowed into the hall of fame to complete the missing piece in the big red machine.
