Tormented Souls is one of the best survival horror releases of recent years, combining gorgeous visuals, a grim atmospheric setting (creepy, dark hospital) and gameplay that reminds you what survival horror is all about (inventory management, tense combat and fixed camera angles). I honestly could not put this one down until I finished it.
I loved playing through tormented souls this year. It was genuinely a great experience.
For anyone who really wants to go retro with a spooky title, one should try the wacky point-and-click mystery "Maniac Mansion" on the NES.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre came out in 1974 boys
I can’t believe they put that scene in one of their videos 😂
They showed Black Christmas which also came out in 1974
..if you wanna get North American about it
I misread your comment. Whoops...
Maybe in Europe it came out much later. Which now that I think about it how didn't we get sequels set in different locales? Lol "The Miami of Ohio Chainsaw Massacre"
Bendy’s Ink Machine does a good job at making a somewhat creepy format super creep show
Little late to the Halloween party on this one, but if you want to try something a bit different but still pretty scary I'd recommend Endoparasitic. Cliff Notes version: You're a scientist on a research station in space that comes under alien attack, and you have a real good news/bad news situation. Good news; you survive the initial attack that killed pretty much everyone else. Bad news; you've lost all your limbs except for one arm. You have to drag and pull yourself across the station to try and save what's left of your research, and pretty much all your actions have to be done manually. Need your gun? Reach back and grab it off your back. Time to reload? You'll have to stop and pull out the spent shells/rounds manually before loading in new ones. Better hope you don't run out with an alien bearing down on you, or that you got some really fast hands... well, hand in this case. It's a little weird, but also really tense and spooky.
Recently found a copy of Clock Tower for the SNES. With that, playing through Scorn, and replaying Soma - it’s a good month of horror for me
Soma ❤️
Murderhouse is awesome and Puppet Combo are horror gods.
Murderhouse is available along with Lost in Vivo and others in the Masters of Indie Horror collection on Steam right now for anyone interested and it's definitely worth a look.
Played, finished and loved all the games they've published.
Gods is overselling it. Murder House is a fun but very janky game that rides hard on its influences, and I'm sure they could do better.
8:56 Umm, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre came out in 1974!
Amazing video, will definitely have to check these out!
I recently played Cold Fear PS2 on my Odin Pro and thought it was pretty good. It’s basically early 00’s Resident Evil on a boat (yes I know Revelations exists) but it’s still great.
Some of these are really good. Good job guys and gals. Oh not to sound repetitive but your newest episode of Main Menu still hasn't been uploaded... I'm sure it's on the way through right lol
Thank you for mentioning The Beast Inside. A fenomenal game with genuinely fun gameplay.
I love this time of year! Spooks! 👻
In Sound Mind truly deserves more attention and with it recently joining the Nintendo Switch library and being ported to consoles earlier this year, this is the perfect time.
I'm 37 years old and I've beat Resident Evil REmake for every year I've lived, starting a run on Halloween and having to end by my birthday in June. I will never get bored of that game!
Lol why does it take you that long to finish?
Guessing limited screen time that can be dedicated to gaming?
@@jamespaul6315 Honestly because I've memorized it so it's fun...But not that fun anymore.
I played the original version of Downfall, which was made available for free and had a more traditional full point-and-click adventure game engine with old-school pixel graphics rather the remake's use of The Cat Lady's 2D engine and pencil sketch art style. It was a _deeply_ disturbing game, albeit rather short. I bought the remake, but never got around to playing it, putting it somewhere pretty far down on my "games to play later" list (which has literally about 500+ games on it). Maybe I should go play it again.
To clarify a bit on the topic of White Day, in Asian cultures Valentines Day is when women give valentines to men, exclusively. White Day is when the men reciprocate.
And then the men give valentine gifts to the woman the next year
@@charlottestreet3301 ...nnnnno.
Sorry to be that kind of person but when you said a certain selection of slasher films came out between 78-84, you include texas Chainsaw Massacre however this came out in 1974.
Again sorry to be that person.
Fantastic video by the way
Love the spook season uploads!
The Cat Lady is a great Point-&-Click classic, glad to see it got mentioned.
It's pretty brutal though. Nice calendar by David Firth.
The monsters aren't under the bed, no - the monsters are inside your head.
Love the video. Keep up the good work Team Triple Jump
Planning on playing Silent Hill 2 and Cold Fear this year. 😱
The Cat Lady is one of the greatest games I've ever played
Pretty sure the whole razor blade thing is an urban myth
The video turned out great.🤩
Peter'll probably dress up as a Naughty Wilson.
Yo. TCM and Black Christmas were released in 1974 not in the '78-84 period you say
For White Day A Labyrinth Named School you missed the original 2009 mobile remake, the 2017 console ports based on the 2015 mobile remake, as well as the 2022 modern console ports
I'm pretty sure Ubisoft's first horror game preceded Cold Fear by nearly 20 years since their literal first release was 1986's Zombi.
Lost in Vivo by KIRA 1 of the most underrated met survival horror of last 10 years probably and 1 of rare true silent hill inspiration, absolutely BLAST, just PLAY IT, and u need to completed 1st not so good part of game, like 1/4, but after that... jeez this game is unique. And i recommend strongly instead of all of this try 2 game from Red Candle, Taiwain Studios - Detention and Devotion. If they not 1 of the best horror studios with deep themes and meaning .. that people forget that true horror is, not resident evil either.
Murder house was so good, if not a bit short.
4 - Glad (a) Puppet Combo (game) got a shout out here. They have quite a few games, that all have the same style of graphics and game play, so, if that's your bag of tea, you should give their other games a try. Not all of them are winners though, admittedly some of them are quite weak, especially when compared to their other games, but overall, they do some good stuff.
Also, check out games by Chilla's Art which is the same style, but Japanese.
To anyone looking for more recommendations here in the comments, SIGNALIS just came out and it is GOOOOD!
2:30 “It’s suppose to say, THE DAY KRABS FRIES!”
I thought White Day was for girls to give guys gifts after the guys gave girls gifts for Valentine's. A common traditional gift from girls to guys is homemade chocolates, the more elaborate the better (also using things like candy molds for melted chocolate).
The Cat Lady looks absolutely gorgeous. Too bad ill never play it cause id like to be able to sleep again. That ones a nope.
Spoopy
Probably not "Hidden" since they both got sequels but Parasite Eve (And PE2) are great, as is Koudelka. (And probably the Shadow Hearts series that continues from Koudelka but I never played that.)
Games list:
10) World of Horror (2020 early access, due 2023. Polish, not Japanese game.)
9) White Day: A Labyrinth Named School (aka. 'The School: White Day'. 2015.)
8) Cold Fear (2005)
7) Maid of Sker (2020)
6) The Cat Lady (2012)
5) Downfall (2009. Same 'Devil Came Through Here' trilogy as The Cat Lady.)
4) Murder House (2020)
3) Unforgiving: A Northern Hymn (2017)
2) The Beast Inside (2019)
1) Lost in Vivo (2018)
Notes:
Beware of that White Day game (#9 spot) with over 40 costume DLCs (very pricey)!
According to an Adventure Gamers review for one of the Downfall editions, that trilogy's unrelenting bleakness and explicit gore & abundant scares will not be for everybody.
Murder House is from notorious company Puppet Combo, renowned for the brutal content in their retro games (of which TripleJump showed some clips of. Beware.).
At least the 2022 modern console port has the costumes dlc embedded into the disc itself
I wish I was brave enough to play this games
I’ve bought Tormented Souls to play through on Halloween. As a horror game lover but utter coward, I may regret this decision. (Hopefully not for performance reasons on my Switch)
Hugs and kisses xoxo
If feel like most Japanese PS2 horror games could be on this list; Haunting Ground in particular. Those games got terrible Western releases and, as such, are criminally underrated.
Ubisoft should really remaster Cold Fear for PS5 & Xbox Series X/S....
Detention shoeld be on here
luv u triple jump
Worth noting, only women get their boyfriends gifts on Japanese Valentines day, because on White day the men get their girlfriends a present that is 3 times the value of what they got.
What about hello puppets midnight show?
I think the original White Day is the superior version personally
Does the UK actually have a Spooky-Only mandate for Halloween costumes? TIL.
We get all the same not spooky stuff, we're just more likely to point it out as being against the spirit of halloween... when the kids are out of earshot.
Why do we now have to warn people about games, or media, that contain suicide?
I don't like maggots. Should I request a warning when bugs show up?
Seriously, please explain this to me.
Cheers.
👽
You kinda sound like squidward
SNAXX
Yee hee
Just a suggestion, you shouldn’t have a minute long intro on every single video, just get into the list!!!! Lol
I got to reply and correct you. Texas Chainsaw Massacre was not released in 78-84. Do your research, kid.
I live in illinois and work at downtown Chicago resturant and put the food we serve on strings and hide the hidden food under my clothes so as to walk around and sweat on it (season it) all day before taking it out and heating and serving it. Sometimes I have about 60 different articles of food underneath my clothing at any given time. No one knows I do this and luckily you don't know what resturant I work at hehe
lol of course you do, honey. Of course you do.
They don't have to tell us not to commit suicide.
Black Christmas and Texas Chainsaw were both 1974. In fact, the title card you use from Black Christmas even has the date 1974 written on it. This is painfully lazy. Did you just list horror movies in the office and write them down?
Lost in Vivo doesn't look anything like ps1 Era just sayin
What is The Cat Lady on? It looks like a PC game and I don't own a PC. Is it on the switch? That looks awesome and is my kind of game
I just wish there were more horror games where
1 - you don't play as weak helpless little pussies incapable of killing enemies
2 - you play as the monster/killer
Carrion and manhunt kinda
maid of sker wasn't very good and was pretty unscary and boring and repetitive, was super disappointing. Not a hidden gem at all and if you look at recent reviews a ton are negative. All of this goes for Beast Inside as well. Both are just mediocre horror games not hidden gems, think you guys missed the mark on this one.
Seems several titles listed are chosen as filler to fluff up the countdown
I would of said dead space but they remade it now
Dead space is hidden gem?
@@morkgin2459 everyone I used to ask said they never heard of it
@@rustyspoon4911 then those people are strange.
@@rustyspoon4911 that doesn't make it a hidden gem. then I wonder what indie games will be? games which caveman plays?
@@morkgin2459 how are they strange? Just because they haven't heard of a game that came out ten years ago? Yeah go try and reach a caveman to play a game and do something productive
Cold Fear was clearly inspired by Resident Evil 4 and Dead Space was clearly inspired by Cold Fear
I've only seen Pewdiepie play White Day and it didn't seem that scary 😂
Maid of sker is unbelievably terrible and doesn't belong on any good horror game list. Hardly anything happens in the game it's so boring and the story is predictable and dull. A paper bag with "boo" written on it is scarier.
What about outlast 1 or 2???
Did you watch the beginning of the video?
