Agreed. It’s so well painted already, it looks like Sean may have to sand it down. Not worth the hassle as it is historically coloured .

I've only ever seen them in 4 colours (I'm sure there's more), the blue that Sean has, a paler blue, lemon yellow and a pastel green. I wouldn't paint it either. I use my grandmothers old pale blue one for all my art supplies.

🧛‍♂️ l worked a shift once which ended at 1am, so l drove to Stonehenge on the Solstice, whilst it was closed to the public.
I stood by the Slaughter Stone, the rising Sun hit that, as l remember.
I was stood there all alone, in my work polo shirt and shorts, there was even a frost!
Driving home from Salisbury to Swanage, l saw the milkman start his round, l felt like Meatloaf chasing home before the Sun rose, to go to bed, only to wake up at mid-day to begin my 'day' once more, lol.🧛‍♂️

I think once your shed is up and you can sit there listening to the river, you will spend more time there and develop the plot a little at a time. As for the solstice, just go to the mountain at sunrise, no need to go to a 'sacred' place. Nature is sacred and all you need to feel the energy of the changing seasons. Could even just go down to the homestead and wait for the sun to come up then do a little dance around your land!!!!

Hi Sean, you would be mad to paint the kitchen unit,The colour that’s on it is classic of the era, also the unit would have originally been spray painted and won’t take Gloss paint that well,it tends to leave streaks..just a heads up..

Some very wise folks have said that when you have a list of chores/activities you want to do, start with the one that you are the most drawn to or excited about. Then, let that lead you to each successive one. That way, you're always doing something that gives you joy. Sometimes you'll even find you get the most joy from doing a task that has been nagging on you as something you really need to get done. So joy comes in different forms...pure pleasure, or knowing you're getting something done that really NEEDS to get done. Either way, it's a great way to live your life every day. I imagine the principle is part of Zen as well. But it has sure changed my life. Helps you love living in the present!

  • @alig8691

Hi Sean. As an allotmenteer and someone who does lots of things all at the same time and has great intentions (until life gets in the way!) I found since taking early retirement I got even less done.
I solved it by sitting down with a cuppa and a large blank journal and a calendar and committing a whole afternoon to "planning" and have ended up coming up with a much better way.
I start by looking at the end of the year when the season is coldest and darkest and work out what can't be done then and what actually needs to be done by then. Then using a pencil and eraser , slowly work backwards on the calendar putting on essential stuff and events where dates are fixed . This way it becomes clear where you are trying to fit in too much. Overwhelm steals time from you so if you pace out tasks it feels like you are actually living and not constantly trying to catch up. It works for me where ever I am in the year and doesn't have to be from January -just start from "where you are ". Sometimes has to be slightly altered as you go along as other invites or matters can or need to be slotted in.

If you leave one of your trolleys out back and cover it up, and take the other one down the homestead to leave it there, if you need to take anything down again you could use the one at home, and then bring it back with you, to save you having to carry things.

Good morning Sean, I did laugh about the hangers,im the same too! I don't put the money round the same way though,it never stays in my purse long enough to worry about it 😂 its a shame that people spoil other people's enjoyment of the sunset/sunrise at stone henge, still at least you have the mountain to go and watch the sunset from, beautiful ! what a lovely green you have chosen, having white walls does you a favour as you can add your accent colours to brighten up the space. please be careful if you sweep the base of the chicken coop and wear a mask, the dust from the poop can be bad for your lungs if you inhale it 🥺 I'm going in the garden now to mow the grass, after a cup of tea of course! Take care Sean, bye for now 😉 💜

Maybe start making lists on paper to prioritise jobs. Like making use of the drier longer days putting up the shed before it gets damaged. Then you can store your tools and trolleys in there out of the house freeing up space. The cupboard is usable at the moment so that could be saved for a wetter day. Just a suggestion on how I get my head in order. If I make a mental list I can’t focus on anything but a pen and paper list gives me satisfaction & motivation to see things getting ticked off. X

I had the same thought about the light switch. I'm sure when it was installed, the door swung the other way. Probably it was switched because of the room layout, in order to give more space on the side without the switch, like for a cot or desk or something.

There are hundreds of stone circles around the UK. Most are village secrets to keep the Stonehenge leftie chanting loonies away. It’s as quiet as a mouse during solstice events. Magical weddings. Occasional plays that the circles help evoke the mystery of theme.
Stonehenge is essential to keep the oddballs entertained and away from ruining our own circles.

Solstice is obviously different for everyone. I'm from Latvia and what you may call a Xmas we call "Ziemassvētki" which is Winter-fest and even it would be celebrated on 24th evening we actually do winter solstice more than anything else. For me it's a family time around the fir tree 🌲 with dinner and everyone's performances (you can't get your present 🎁 without a little performance). Summer solstice also is linked nowadays to a date rather than an actual shortest night, it's 23rd evening. And it's a fire-pit outside whenever possible and songs. Traditionally should be a beer and caraway-seed-cheese. But I'd skip beer and we'd rather do barbecue if you'd have fire 🔥 already 😅

Yes Sean, that is comfrey, and there are nettles too. Stick em in a plastic bucket with a little water and put the lid on. I use empty blood, fish and bone bucket. Makes excellent liquid feed.
I live right on the beach so I use seaweed tea for my leeks and tomatoes. You get big leeks! I have just gathered some more, and you don't need much, for next year.
Hens + river will = rats, you might want to think about that.

I use two wheelbarrows every day. They are very different, though. One has a shelf and two wheels in front, and is deeper than the other one. The second one has two wheels in front, is lower and has lower sides. That one is great for unloading heavy bags from the boot, and is more maneuverable in the garden. I have “stuff” in both, and I can push one and pull the other if necessary. Don’t think you can do that with the design you have but that’s a blessing in disguise, having two.

The big 2 man saw....is like the ones we have around Oregon because of old time logging....I sanded the rust off 2 of them, spray painted them black with paint to prevent rust, and then painted them both with acrilic paint......they were perfect for, big tree forests with deep moss, creeks little waterfalls, ferns and animals hiding....one for each of my kiddos....they work purfect to hang on the wall pointy edge up makes the tops of trees...and for Christmas the tiny lights can be between the saw gaps and the extra cords tucked behind it. Or perhaps you could sell it as is some are collectable. Love your videos, Sean.

That’s a lovely amount of space on your homestead for growing the bigger stuff, pumpkins, potatoes and courgettes come to mimd. It’s going to be worth the hard work in the end. Totally agree about watching the sunrise in silence. I was going to mention pairing those socks up as it saves time later but I see others have already done it 😂

200 square feet of homestead. Probably less space than a 10 pole allotment. You should have that sorted by the start of the growing season next test. Are you doing the cardboard and compost method of Charles Dowding or digging out beds leaving grass paths?

That looks like Himalayan balsam on the River Bank ...not comfrey... which is sadly invasive but very pretty!! And I used to go to the equinoxes and solstices at Stonehenge (free festivals) and Avebury...in the 80's and 90s when I was s dready hippi in my old ambulance 😁 ..now we go to castlerigg or long Meg in my adopted home of Cumbria for the sabbats, being a pagan who's into nature and earth magic!!

~chuckles~ here in the southern coast of North Carolina USA, summer starts when we hit 80°F during the day which usually happens around the first of May. Our “beach season” starts at Easter and runs until end of October-ish. Our autumn doesn’t start (defined by 60° F days and 50°F nights) until end of November. We often don’t have our first frost until mid-December January. First field planting (and garden peas, spinach, potatoes) starts around February 15th. We rarely have more than two or three hard frosts or below 30°F nights.😂

Hi Sean. I'd get rid of the lot, and go and get your glass n roof felt. Put your plastic base down and get cracking. You can put some plastic netting over the roof. Seel the neaails with bitchimin. Preserve it with engine oil. We do ours every 3 years. Better than paint. Xxxxxx
