I had a time where we were in line for Millennium Force and I started feeling like I was going to pass out. We were right by the area where the ramp starts and there's a path to exit. Thankfully there was an employee in the booth near there. He allowed me to sit in the air conditioning and gave me water. Once I was feeling better he allowed us to get back in line where we had been. I was very grateful for this (truthfully still felt a little guilty though..)
I once felt sick in line for Congo falls and right before I got on I left the line and hurled in a trash can in the station, the employee was nice and gave me water too :)

@@RiteanDan Unfortunately there were a few dirty looks, yes... even though we were escorted by an employee back in line. Guess it's to be expected, but still didn't feel good..

14:37 this also happened on splash mountain, in 2000 a man said he was "feeling ill" and attempted to exit the log and reach an emergency exit, he instead fell out of the log and into the water, and was killed when he was struck by another log. A similar event occurred on Disneyland's Matterhorn bobsleds in 1964, when a 15 year old unbuckled his seatbelt and attempted to stand up at the top of the lift hill, he would be thrown back from his bobsled and suffered severe head and rib injuries and would die 3 days later. I don't care what ride you're on or where in the ride you are, if they tell you to remain seated PLEASE REMAIN SEATED.
Legit I was a dumb kid and stood up on a log ride. If it wasn’t for my girlfriends brother at the time catching me I would’ve been kaput. Ever since that experience I’m thankful and take safety very seriously. I was one of the lucky dummies
I couldn't imagine standing up on either one of those rides. I can't stand the sensation of free-falling, so the height of the drop on Splash Mountain is pretty much my limit. And right before the drop I'm always hunched over, trying not to see anything. I do love the Matterhorn, but the mountain's entrances are low enough to give the illusion you could hit your head if you didn't duck down as the bobsled ran into caves.
Was young stoned and a friend of mine and I got off the back of the boat on Pirates of the Caribbean to play with the treasure. All glued together. We jumped into the back of another boat and then got nailed as we came into the load unload and escorted under Disneyland CA amazing underground where we were stamped with a indelible Micky X as they called it and tossed out. It ruined half a day but they did not stop the ride and we got to see the underground part. II would never screw around on a coaster or on anything again after somebody popped out of the giant wood coaster Colossus at Magic Mountain and landed in the parking lot.

Never ever EVER enter a ride restricted area while the ride is operating. Employees who do enter these areas have Express permission and special lockouts that prevent people starting the ride. Every time we go into a ride area, we have to talk to ride ops and maintenance to make sure they know not to start the ride while we are working. One if the very few confirmed deaths we have had at the park was due to someone not tagging out a ride.
NEVER ENTER A RIDE RESTRICTED AREA.
Why would it not be a real job? I know it sounds ridiculous but someone needs to design and/or install the stuff.

Yeah, story one time from Dad. A kid at 10 lost his baseball hat on a Six flags ride. And the kid went in that area, the ride had a hast going downhill dip which is where the kid is and Wham. The kid was decapatated.

Cedar Fair hires kind and helpful people, Disney doesn't want to be sued, and Dolly Parton will show up personally to make sure your kids are happy.
Dropped my hat on the brake platform of the Gemini - maintenance retrieved it after the park closed.
Kid stepped on glass at Epcot - free everything.
Dolly is a sweet and wonderful lady who hangs out at her own park.
They really are there to help.
As a CF Seasonal employee at Dorney Park I can say all of the Ride Operators are certified by IROC

Another thing not mentioned - please for the love of god do not pressure other members of your group to ride things that are way outside of their comfort zone. Amusement parks are for having fun, not giving people panic attacks and possibly shutting down the ride just because you think someone's reaction to fear is entertaining
I think I should make it clear that I don't think "getting over your fear is bad," I just think there's no need to drag mfs out of their fear of roller coasters considering that doesn't get in the way of shite

For #6, you forgot to mention you can get kicked out for it. We watched multiple people get escorted out of Cedar Point during our opening weekend trip for line cutting. Parks aren't putting up with it anymore.
i go to cedar point like 3 times a week and i NEVER see them do anything about it lmfao, only a few specific workers actually do anything
As it should be. Also, if they happen to be pass holders, their pass should be revoked.

Its crazy to me that people really do line cut. I mean if they cut in front of me. Im clearly gonna say something and get them removed from the ride.
No they’re not. And neither am I. Several people tried to line cut me when I was at Cedar Point and I told them off. Cause ain’t nobody gonna cut the line in front of me and get away with it. I’m done falling for people’s crap. It’s not fair to me. And they were doing it solely for the purpose of pissing me off.
My family's guilty of number 7 unfortunately. We took a trip to SeaWorld Orlando and my mom, dad, and younger brother wanted to ride the Manta. I was very afraid of roller coasters at the time so I refused and decided to just wait for them. My brother though, did want to ride it, but was a few inches shorter than the minimum height. My parents tried stuffing tissues in his shoes but he was still an inch shorter, and the park employee was very adamant about the height requirements (good for them). Unfortunately my parents still managed to simply sneak my brother past the employee when they got distracted and he ended up riding the coaster anyway. I'm really glad nothing happened to my brother obviously, but I'm still kind of bitter about how reckless my parents were for doing that

I recently went to SeaWorld myself and I can say out of all the roller coasters there, that's the only one I don't like.
Mainly because it tilts you backwards and makes you constantly face the ground.

We've got a lot of trouble caused by guests and most of the time when a ride is down it is because of people behaviour.
At least at the park I work in.
Oh and I work at Disneyland Paris.
We have cameras everywhere. Not only in lift hills.
And getting your phone out during the ride makes us completely stop the ride, which means in most cases we have to e v a c I a t e the f* whole ride and queueline.
Yikes.
(We can't reset an e-stop with guests onboard on most rides)
I remember evacuating the smiler queue for some reason and i was queueing for like an hour so ik how f***ing misrable it is I LITERALLY JUST ENTERED THE STATION OF THE SMILERRRRRRR and then WE HAD TO EVACUATEEEEEEE i managed to ride it in the end but it took like half an hour longer
i was at Disneyland Paris this year and just as I entered the queue to Hyperspace Mountain they closed it. so maybe that's why.
In 2018 my husband rode the RC racer and at the time he was in it, some random girl started recording with her phone. The ride was stopped immediately and she had to leave the ride. My husband waited over an hour (it was saying 25 minutes Dx) and because of that, it took him even longer … that’s annoying for all the other guests, if that happens more often (and I was pregnant and also had to wait a few minutes longer for him 😅…)

I'm actually SURPRISED that no one said, "Smoking or Vaping in queue lines and outside designated areas." That's especially true at Six Flags Great Adventure.
Yeah, nobody in line wants second hand smoke, not only is it unpleasant, it can also have some negative health effects, sometimes just as bad as actually smoking the cigarette.
Bro i was on Krake in Germany last month and a guy befor me just vaped while riding. This shithead just pushed out his stupid smoke while we were on the fucking Dive Drop. This man, we still laught over this adiccted shit head.

We were at Disneyland in the queue line for Space Mountain, some guy was smoking pot. Now you know the line for space Mountain is a very long path through a narrow building. This is the amazing part door opens in the wall and a guard comes out and removes the man in the line. Next time you're in the queue line for Space Mountain see if you can find the hidden doors, sure surprised us but were glad he removed the man and his smelly marijuana smoke.
For #2, there is a difference between being snug and being stapled. But also, I have been on rides where the ride ops barely even cared to strap me in. If you don't like being restrained, go to Camden Park in West Virginia. The most dangerous, hilarious, and fun amusement park I've ever been to. It also has the only still-operational original Haunted House coaster in America, and maybe even the world.
So, what exactly is your evidence for Camden Park being "dangerous?"

It doesn't even increase the amount of airtime/intensity of airtime. Just makes you feel less secure.

The restraints thing actually scares me and when i here about enthusiasts purposely making them looser i get so concerned. especially when its just a lap bar on a coaster with inversions. I get not wanting to be stapled but purposely having space is going to farr
i did it once on hangtime (little ashamed of it) and the restraint ended coming down all the way on the drop so there wasnt even any purpose unless one physically holds the restraint up
I get wanting an inch of room for airtime, but that’s all you need to be safe and comfortable - no more, no less. No idea how people think getting 3+ inches on a ride as intense as Fury is a good idea. Not to mention that having that much room would also make the transitions from airtime to positive G’s far more painful.
On the flip side, stapling extremely tightly is no safer than having an inch of room, and the only accident mentioned here was an extreme case where someone was literally able to stand up on a sit down roller coaster. Although extremely risky, being able to get away with 3+ inches of room on Fury just goes to show how safe roller coasters are, and if someone can somehow get away with that, then I don’t think an inch of room is unsafe at all.
Speaking as someone who tends to be very nervous when riding any roller coaster for the first time, I tend to put the restraint on incredibly tight so I don’t get thrown out of the ride vehicle.

I've sadly experienced A TON of line cutting across Danish parks, often just swept under the rug by anyone and everyone, including the ride staff. But its thankfully not as common these days or at least on more recent park visits, but a few weeks ago I did experience a group of teen girls line cutting right in front of me at Tivoli Gardens for Dæmonen, their B&M Floorless. I swiftly told them that its against the park rules, and that there is an employee at the top of the stairs we were waiting on, and that if they were spotted during this by them, they'd be kicked out of the park. Sure enough that made them go back to the back of the line. The people I mostly see do line cutting these days aside from rowdy teens, are migrant families who don't know how to queue in a line.
Oh, they know how, they pretend or act dumb like they don't understand. I see that all the time.

I have an honorable mention that only applies to dark rides and other indoor attractions. No flash pictures! While it's not dangerous as some of the things on the list, I find it really annoying, and I've noticed that Disneyland, for the most part, is clamping down on them. I refer to them as "flashbugs" (combining "flashbulb" and "shutterbug").
I agree there’s nothin I hate more than someone taking flash photos on a dark ride. When I rode Na’vi River Journey for the first time at Disney World, some middle aged couple ruined it by taking flash photos. What made it worse was I know those photos won’t even come out good bc the bioluminescent effects won’t show up on a FLASH PHOTO. Me and my family are going the Disney for Mardi Gras, so this time I plan on calling a rider out if they start taking flash photos
One of the scariest experiences I’ve ever had was riding Intimidator 305 with my 10 year old niece (who has been tall enough to ride since she was 8). Several seats in front of us, an iPhone Plus ejected from someone’s hand or pocket on the first hill. I instinctively covered her head with my hand, even though it wouldn’t have done much good if that phone had hit at 90mph. It’s just not worth it. Someone lost a phone on each of my 3 rides that day. It made me want to try to sit closer to the front in the future, even though it’s not my favorite place to sit.
@juiceboxer100 Because if it hits you in the head it could break your facial bones or even give you brain damage. Even if there wasn't a risk of getting injured, you wouldn't be able to catch it at 90mph

You missed "Don't open an umbrella on a roller coaster." Happened when I was a ride op at SF Great America back about 20 years. It started pouring right after we dispatched American Eagle's two trains. While headed up the lift hill, someone opened an umbrella so we had to estop the ride thus trapping over 50 riders out in the pouring rain 🌧

Where I live, whenever it's pouring rain, (and that almost always happens when the Red River Ex comes to Winnipeg; it's NEVER always perfect weather at that time) all rides come to stop, and they don't start up again until the rain stops and the storm clouds break up. A lot of rides run on electricity, and some riders can get electrocuted in the pouring rain if there's nothing to protect them.

In addition to being killed when jumping the fence, there's a damn good chance that you're going to seriously injure and traumatize riders when the car slams into your body. They came to the park to have fun. Not shatter their bones when some jerk's severed head flies into them.
16:45 one time I accidently gave myself too much room on the Phantom and the last airtime hills made me feel like I was about to float completely out of the restraint. That was the "oh shit" moment for me.
Also what I noticed theme parks usually only sell heavy greasy fast food that are hard to digest. You'll feel that BBQ chicken pizza or double beef alpine cheese burger after 2 roller coaster rides. I dont like drinking too much because I wanna avoid the need to pee while standing in the queue line
Drink when your thirsty problem solved because if you drink when you need too you’ll be fine
Overeat anything and that will be a problem. Beef has nothing to do with it.

I went to Silver Dollar City this past weekend. When I was in line for Thunderation it had to be shut down and medics had to be called in two cycles in a row because a couple of people in line passed out from dehydration. The wait ended up being around 30 minutes when it should have been a 10-15 minute wait. Stay hydrated people
I love this video and it is an important one. I remember the incident at my home park with the restricted area. This man lost his phone on Raptor and I think he was drunk and then lost his life.
I was not only horrified about his death, I was legit angered that he traumatized so many people because of his ignorance seen a man die at first hand. Imagine.....you're taking a niece or nephew, son or daughter on their first coaster and your train killed a guy?

I'm posting this because it happens to me sometimes- EAT ENOUGH!! I've almost passed out in line because the heat mixed with being really hungry, make sure to eat throughout the day and just let your stomach settle before riding something. I get that you want to get on as many as possible but wait, and eat. Also have a story of disregarding the no phones rule. cedar point is my home park and I was in line for the mini swings with my little cousins and a phone flew off of maverick and landed on the concrete FEET away from water. the case popped of on impact and the back was shattered.
One of the things I did at the parks (Geauga Lake, mainly) was check the restraint (lap and shoulder) by trying to "get out of it" . This habit may have saved my life. I was on the (Mean?/Blue?) Streak at Geauga Lake and was getting ready to ride. The lap bars came down, but all the operator did was look at the bars. He didn't touch them. As is my habit, I checked to see if the lap bar was locked. It wasn't. I stood up quick and screamed "MY LAP BAR ISN'T WORKING!!" The operator checked the bar, then I got out of the ride. When I walked back a little later, the ride had been shut down. I don't remember much else (I was 12 then and I'm 53 now) but I know my habit might have saved my life, and maybe other people's.
I also do that and I try to understand the basics of how the safety on the ride works

The timing of this video couldn't be more perfect. I kid you not, when I woke up this morning, the first video to pop up in my recommended list was this: "8-Year-Old Injured on Roller Coaster by Falling Cell Phone" by Inside Edition, and it wasn't an old video - it was uploaded this morning. And it happened on Twisted Colossus. The little girl had to get stitches, and to top it off, the cell phone user told her "to stop making such a big deal about it." Class act gentleman.
When I was a ride operator at Lake Compounce, I was very strict about No Loose Articles. You won't believe the number of phones I've seen fall from Phobia each day. There were days where I saw 10 phones fall off and hit the station roof (which sounded like a gunshot).

1:42 i have noticed that. one day i was walking towards the break room from green lantern when two girls ran up to me and informed me that someone collapsed due to heat stroke. i was only 14 and it was my first week on the job
4:47 10:42 if that happens it can kill someone. New Jersey actually has a no loose items policy on the rides. if you approach the ride with a phone, Wallet, or any loose item they will kick you out of the line to put the item in a locker or leave it with a non rider. the number of angry park fans i had to escort out of lines is almost comical
5:01 i've had that before. little kids try to stand on their toes to try and meet the height requirement
6:47 oh my god. i remember working at Kinda Kah and this lady held up the entire line waiting for her husband to come back. i had to get security to remove her from the line because she wouldn't move or let anyone pass her. eventually she was kicked out of the line
12:31 that was actually my first job. i was the person in the photo stations. if we saw a picture with a phone we block it from being seen. then we print out a copy of the photo and give it to a security officer who then finds the person with the phone and escorts them out of the park. i've gotten plenty of people kicked out for breaking the rules
19:00 yep. i've seen that happen too. at green lantern the fence is so low that guests tend to jump over it and go to the alternate pathway just because they dont want to walk the que line again. i remember catching someone attempting to do that and i even warned the person to not do that or i would call security. she didnt listen and walked though the restricted area. i reported it to a security guard and the woman and all her friends were eyeballing me the entire time the security guard was getting all their information. just minutes later they were kicked out of the park

@@TakBonez Hard disagree. I used to work at a waterpark and a I remember one incident where a large group sent one guy to get tubes for the whole group. Then they realized they didn't get enough tubes and tried to cut the whole line to get more. I wouldn't allow it and the guy demanded to speak with my manager. Ultimately, they were allowed to ride, but with a stern warning that anyone who was riding had to wait in line, and they couldn't send one guy to get tubes for everyone again. If you want to go on the ride, then wait in the line. It's not that complicated.
Oh man....first ever ride on Twisted Timbers I was INCHES away from getting smacked by someone's loose phone. I heard it whizz past my ear like a bird flying by. The problem at the time was that Cedar Fair was FORCING you to put them in lockers rather than being like some parks that have the free bins on the side of the boarding platform, and this encouraged people to try to cheat the system.

A follow up to the height limit thing from my experience working at Cedar Point and Bay Beach: whether it's a minimum or maximum height limit, if you're a ride operator, don't ever give into it. EVER. not only are you potentially putting them in danger, but you're also making it even harder if they decide to return to the ride and a different person takes their spot
No. Espically at Cedar Point. Maybe do your fucking research and realize that a 48 inch tall kid can ride Steel Vengnace and Maverick if i worked there I would 100% let into a parent being upset that their 50 inch tall kid not being able to ride Steel Vengance. Because RMC and Intamin were like "yo cedar point i hate kids and maverick is now too scary to let 48-51 inch tall kids ride so just make it not allowed" This is extremely stupud and idiotic so yes, Definelty cave in and let a 48-51 inch tall kid who really wants to ride maverick or SteVe ride maverick or SteVe. do reasearch before spreading misinformation and ruining some kid's day.
When I rode Xcelerator for the first time, a person about 2 rows ahead of me dropped their phone and the guy in front of me caught it.
Before you ride a roller coaster and think, “I can’t drop my phone, I’m holding it so tightly!” No, you can’t.
Whenever I was younger, I was so bummed that I was 1 inch off from being able to ride all the rides at Six Flags in Missouri. I told my dad this: “I know how to get on the ride! I just fold up socks, put them in the shoes and stand on them, and I’ll be tall enough!” It did work, but now I see why I shouldn’t have done it

I’ve had awful stomach problems in twisted colossus’s queue before. Thankfully I was allowed to leave and come back after a trip to the bathroom. Ironically, the coaster seemed to help me a lot

i remember the first time i ever went to six flags i was 8 years old and my mom took me and my brother with my best friends family, we were at great america and we were all pretty little so one of the only big rides we all were tall enough for at the time was the demon. well we went on it and my friend's dad forgot to take out his car keys and they fell out, which we realized as we were leaving so we went and talked to someone at the guest relations thing and ended up having to wait for the park to close for the day before someone escorted him back into the restricted area to find his keys. he eventually found them but i remember it was a weird and kind of cool experience being in the park after everyone else had left.
I found it interesting that you think the restraints on Sky Rush are tight. When my son was finally tall enough to go on it, I was nervous about how loose the lap restraint fit him. He was obviously fine, but having no backup restraint always gets to me on that ride. And it was nice to put a face to the voice!

Loose items contributed to the downfall of Dueling Dragons, as it meant that the ride could no longer duel as it was designed to do. I've also been hit by coins (thankfully not a goose) on Apollo's Chariot, and have photos of a guy losing his phone on of the airtime hills of Goliath at SFOG
Dueling Dragons could’ve been relocated separately to other parks but sadly Universal decided to scrap the whole thing prematurely. I mean I understand they couldn’t duel anymore because of loose articles and all, but that didn’t mean they had to scrap it.
PS. I’m not buying that “End of service life” bullshit excuse they had for Dueling Dragons’ permanent closure because most of the other B&M’s from 1999 are still running nicely to this day, and therefore Universal had absolutely NO EXCUSE to scrap the ride prematurely whatsoever. I just hope they learn from that idiotic mistake in the years to come.
The following ride, which appears at 4:37 is equipped with metal detectors. You need to empty your pockets before riding so that you don't lose important stuff.
Number one I've seen first hand. A mom was talking to her friend when her son climbed over the fense to see Raging Bull pass by. This was around the Viper cue line. I wanted to mention it to the mom even security, but was stopped. Idk why I didn't ignore and did it anyways, but luckily someone else did. The mom was unfazed and continued to talk to her friend as if nothing happened. If I were the mom, I would've took my kid back home and would banned him for a year from any theme parks
there is ONE flaw there. parents cannot ban people from theme parks. only the theme park staff can do that.

#6 I can absolutely vouch this is a huge problem that has become worse over time. I've had numerous instances where I've had to tell people to go back to the end of the line and be respectful of others and follow the rules.
#4. Last winter at SDC a kid was holding their phone on Wildfire and I shouted "put your f****** phone away!" He never did, but the operator did chew him out when we returned to the station though.
Not everyone needs to suffer the waiting game. However there are limits, like if it's a group of 5 or more. That's definitely pushing it. However one or two people understandable.
I was wearing my coasterholic hoodie (from energylandia) recently at a themepark and the ride op gave me just that tiny extra gap of airtime/hangtime. The ride's safety systems (gerstlauer infinity) allowed it, but it didnt feel entirely safe so I pressed it down just a bit more,
My friends and I were on DCA Tower of Terror (last op day before retheme) one of my friends stalled the ride by trying to cheat the belt restraints. The voice on the loudspeaker said someone broke the rules, the lights came on, doors opened, and a CM (still in character) walked right up to my friend, glowering, and asked her to exit. It was SO EMBARRASSING. BTW… I LOVED the animations. Excellent video!
I believe it is worth noting that some coasters like Pony Express at Knott’s Berry Farm have storage bins at the station where they can store their loose items. That way, park guests can enjoy the ride without the risk of losing their wallets or smart devices.
Yes, though some bins are better than others. If the bin has a sliding door that prevents theft, then its totally okay. If not, then definitely get a locker or get secure zipper pockets.
The worst was when Six Flags (at least New England) tried removing the bins at the station while installing PAID lockers at the queue entrance to their major rides. I think this lasted a season before they added back drink holders (that mainly fit only the souvenir bottles) in the station, and then the following season had the cubbies/bins back.
@@ThemeParkCrazy Might be different in the US, but every time I’ve been to a theme park in the UK (minus the small beach front fairgrounds and the like), there’s always been one or two park staff keeping an eye on guest’s bags. Some rides, like Thir13een (Thirteen) at Alton Towers (btw, great coaster for those who want a thrill but just aren’t quite ready for the big boys like Nemesis, Oblivion and The Smiler), have booths where you can hand in your loose items and bags, and each guest gets assigned to a numbered cubbyhole and given a matching numbered wristband. That way you can only claim the items in the cubby that matches the wrist band
I believe all Six flags parks have storage bins cause there's at least one place to store your stuff at every ride.
Or for example F.L.Y a rolercoaster in Phantasialand Germany. Where you get storage lockers and people that check you to look if you have loose items cause it would be way to dangerous otherwise.
About the hydration, listen to my story
Summer 2020, first time at a big theme park (where i can actually go on the extreme rollercoasters) in Energylandia, Poland. It was with summer camp, so we were sticking together in groups, most of the time. We had a lunch break, following the hybrid coaster Zadra and flat ride Aztec swing. I didn't drink much at the time. After going on Zadra, I felt so sick, i didn't go on anything for the rest of the day. It was partially because of dehydration. (When i am dehydrated i get oozy and sick).
@zolin2479, that's how I am with being out in the heat for too long. One time, I was going back to school shopping with my mom when suddenly I felt sick. It was hot that day and I had to sit down in the store we were in. Once outside, I almost passed out in front of my mom and she got me water. That night, my stomach still hurt a little bit, but, otherwise I was okay. Scary moment. If it weren't for my mom that day, I wouldn't be here today.

Thanks for introducing the "Go Pro" mini cameras contraptions as a solution to filming safely on rides. I would also like to add that a helmet with a built in camera (complete with a record button on the side of the helmet that one can push to start and stop recording without taking it off) would also be a good idea, and if this hasn't been invented or patented, someone should get right on it. Another probably good contraption that Go Pro can make would be one they can put around their necks, like a brooch, a necklace or a keychain. The neckpiece and the helmet would be options I would go for if this was something I was into. But for the parks that outright forbid all filming, despite people owning these contraptions... seriously, have there been THAT many incidents of cameras flying out while recording, that it's a classic case of "spoiling it for everyone else"? And does this also include filming the ride when you're off it? It would sure bite if it did.
As for cheating the height minimum, I would think that in the case of many rides, children and youth who don't meet the required minimum would not be able to ride UNACCOMPANIED. If parents or older siblings cannot ride with small children, I think one good solution here would be for the park to hire RIDE BUDDIES to ride with them, especially rides that do not allow single riders in a gondola/car. These Ride Buddies would be between the ages of 15-28 years old, meet the minimum required weight and height standards set by the park, and would have to submit criminal background and child abuse checks in order to be eligible and chosen to work at the park. They would have to go through "ride tests" to see which one they can handle and which ones they can't, though I think most of them would be able to handle all types of rides and coasters. They would also wear a certain colour of shirt to differentiate (assuming that's the correct term) themselves from the other park workers. As well, (and this is me speaking as a person with a disability) the Ride Buddies would also assist guests who are wheelchair bound in and out of rides, and make sure they are safe and comfortable, so they don't have to miss out on any fun and thrills if they can truly handle rides. This is especially something that would look *great* on a person's résumé if they choose a career as a disability caregiver or working with disabled/vulnerable persons. I think this is something many parks and amusement ride facilities should look into.
height minimums are usually about fitting the safety equipment, so having a "buddy" won't cut it. if a child starts to fall out of a ride you can't rely on someone grabbing their shirt to save them.
I don't use a wheelchair (cognitive disability not physical) but I would imagine many who do would be concerned about a stranger without carer qualifications being expected to transfer them from chair to ride without dropping them or moving their bodies in dangerous ways.
@@isthatrubble Safety equipment on most rides usually consists of harnesses that fit around the shoulders and chest, right? Or a safety bar. I always hold on to the safety bar on rides, and these are usually children who usually don't meet the requirements by a few inches that are accompanied by their parents. I've seen young children getting on and off rides such as Pharoah's Fury and the Polar Express, maybe even the Swing Tower. I doubt they would let a child that was "glaringly obvious."
Furthermore, for most programs working with children, volunteers and staff usually go through something called an "orientation:" a course lasting several days or even a week that teaches them how their jobs are done, including how children and vulnerable persons are to be handled. They're even made to read and memorize a handbook containing rules, regulations and procedures. I highly doubt that being a ride buddy at the state fair would be any different

All points that are applicable to life outside of theme parks are good life advice. Don't enter restricted areas, don't cut lines if you can avoid it, and drink your hecking water!
You forgot breaking into themeparks after they are closed. It is a common thing in Europe, and people that climb rollercoasters sometimes fall to their deaths.

When I went to Cedar Point for the first time a couple weeks ago I saw a woman from the queue jump into the pond under the ride to retrieve her phone. I really don't understand how someone's phone could be important enough to go into dangerous, restricted area just to get her phone back even though it would obviously be destroyed by then. They had to shut down the ride for about 30 minutes because of this and she was thankfully ejected from the park.

I am not a super enthusiast. I live in St. Louis and started going to six flags again. I have always love coasters and rides but never had the money to travel to ride at other parks. This is becoming my favorite channel to watch! Funny, informative, and family friendly.
It's funny that you bring up emergency bathroom usage. I've been working at a Cedar Fair park as a ride operator, and one day a woman in the front of the queue just let her child take a whiz outside of the fences in the soil. After they were done, I told her politely that it was against the park rules and she responded with "well he had to go" and I told her what you said in the video about how she could have asked me to let them out of line and be guided to a bathroom, and I would be understanding of it.
As for checking heights, we are trained to look at the shoes to see if the guest looks taller with them on, and if they are we ask the guest to take them off. I've also dealt with parents that say their child rode a ride with the same height requirement, I just tell them that they got measured wrong and most parents get it but some don't and will try to fight it. And that's kind of a theme like you said in the video. Most guests are understanding and awesome but the 1% of guests are the ones that we are trained to deal with. If a guest is being rowdy, don't let them ride. If a guest is swearing and threatening you, call security.
And for those who are thinking of becoming a ride operator, absolutely do it. To quote ElToroRyan, "there's so much to learn that you can't as a regular enthusiast." Plus it's a great opportunity to meet new people, and depending on the park, enthusiasts.
We went to Disneyland as a large group. We had a rule. Everyone got in line at the same time. If it was long, or an emergency, ONE person would leave and return, getting drinks/food for the rest. If it was just a drink run, we offered the people behind us a chance to have us get drinks for them too. Be courteous. Funniest thing was we had a bad boy in our group who goofed off and showed up to Space Mountain late. Sorry bro, you know the rule. You ride by yourself, 45 minutes later. Too bad, so sad.
I also found out about #2 that it can make the ride more painful for one of 2 reasons - Either the restraint comes down harder during the ride, since it has more space to "speed up" down to your lap, or if it stays up then you're butt will constantly slam down hard to the seat after every airtime moment. I had this on Mako and I didn't even try to get extra space. I was surprised of how hard and sudden you come back down to those positive G's.
I used to be a Ride Operator for 5 summers. Great job with good benefits, and this list is spot on for the things that we looked for and dealt with on a near daily basis.
This video definitely deserves at least 100k views. Hopefully more people realize the dangers of doing these 10 things.
Also if you go to a theme park, please clean up after yourself. I worked 7 years doing janitorial work at Universal and it was disrespectful to see people leave their trash everywhere. Also use the bathrooms as you would at your home. It was frustrating to see the bathrooms absolutely trashed.
Great video as always, I've been going to theme parks for years. Man I cannot tell you how many times i've seen people put their phones on the most craziest rides. I once rode hangtime and someone NEARLY dropped their phone on me and a friends face while we where going up the VERTICAL LIFTHILL for hangtime. 100% would've knocked us out cuz that thing is just a flying piece of metal headed right towards your face. Most people use their phones on rides either to get video of the ride, or take photos and upload it on a crappy website. What they don’t realize is that how dangerous that it, like the the recent incident on Twisted Colossus at SFMM where a young girl was injured by a phone on the ride a few months back. I’ve also seen loose articles flying off Surfside Gliders at Knott’s like glasses, hats, etc. that have to be fished out by a net by park staff. It’s kind of sad how people break these rules for clout, most phone videos recorded on roller coasters have crappy quality, or bad audio that is earrape! Since sometimes when I go to Knotts, my mom has to keep our backpack and bag on the ride sometimes since there are no bins on the ride, or we are far from the storage. But luckily, we take them on the more, tamer, non-inverting kiddie rides like Coast Rider or Jaguar. But lesson here, don’t take any loose articles on intense rides or they fall into the ground, water, or a human.

I’ve seen that on a vlog. Someone wanted to film on a coaster with their phone. They were like: It’s not all that fast, it’ll be fine. The coaster is quite fast and has quite a few airtime hills and most importantly; it’s a wooden coaster, which would probably make it more likely for there to be some sort of sudden jolt that will send your phone flying.
You can film on coaster. Buy special cameras to do so. Don’t use the phone. Best case scenario is that you get caught filming. Worst case is that you hurt someone. Just put go pros on your chest or something.
I agree with not using phones. It's dangerous and can seriously injure people. However, with the last part of your statement, a lot of parks in America don't allow GoPros.

I once waited an hour for GateKeeper front seat and was actually in the ride vehicle when the ride had to stop on the lift hill because some idiot took out their phone. It visibly pissed off a lot of people waiting in line + in the ride vehicles. The ride attendant was up on the lift hill for a good while so I can imagine the offender was trying to argue their way out of it.

I often wear clothing with pockets that have zippers. This way, I don’t always have to put my phone or wallet away. Only times I filmed on ride or took pictures, was when I went on a dark ride or when the coaster just finished its layout.
I was at Dollywood a few years ago and a guy had his phone out. The operator told them to put it away like 6 times and he didn’t, when the coaster pulled back into the station he got kicked out of the park in front of a bunch of people. I’m sure that was worth it to embarrass himself. Also regarding people messing with the restrains or going into restricted areas. I don’t wanna say someone deserves to die…but they’re pretty much asking for it at that point.

I've had some horrible line cutting experiences where kids/teens are jumping through queue barriers, smoking in line, and returning from the bathroom and/or with food. One teen verbally threatened me at SFNE when I stood up to him/them because there is no one around to report to. Other two parks where it was just rampant were SFOT and kennywood. I feel like nothing can be done and I think some teen park workers would be afraid of the confrontation too, in that situation. I am thankful for metal detectors and security though even though sometimes they don't check bags.
Two days ago I was in line for ThunderHawk(The one at Dorney Park) and this late teenager or young adult hopped the queue right in front of us luckily there was a very short line so it wasn't that bad.
Something I felt really guilty for doing at a park is this:
I was at Six Flags Great America with my family (and one of my friends) and we decided to wait in line for Goliath. However, the line was really long so we decided to wait in the single rider line meaning that we wouldn’t get to ride together. We got to the station and there were some rows empty in the back of the station. Keep in mind, the single rider lane shared the same line as the people with Flashpasses (Six Flag’s version of “skip the line passes”) Now, when we got to the ride operator who was sorting us out into rows, ignoring the people who have been waiting for an hour in the standby line, let our group go in the empty rows, letting our group ride together. I’m not sure if this ride operator thought we had flashpasses or something, but our group basically cheated the single rider line. Everyone was satisfied that we got to skip the line, but our group also felt kind of guilty in the end
Same thing happened to me at universal in Orlando on one of the hp rides- I felt really guilty lmao

@@brandoncraig8171 I had seen something like that happen at to a group of teenage boys on Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Studios Hollywood a few years ago. One boy in the group had purchased the Express Pass and was in the line when his buddies (who didn't have the Express Pass) decide to jump from the regular queue line to the Express Pass line to join him. Needless to say, they didn't get very far because one of the Cast Members came over to have them all go to the back of the regular queue line.
This has happened to both my sister and I a couple of times at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Florida. My guess is that they were trying to fill in every row and they couldn't find enough parties to fill each row. So they will pull multiple people from the Single Rider line to fill in those rows. I don't think you were actually cheating the system; you were just following the ride operators' directions.

Cutting in line-
The funniest example of this I saw was a group of teenagers trying to cut in line for "High Striker" at Thorpe Park. You're probably not aware of the ride. Even my 2-year old finds it dull. That some teenagers would want to cut in on this ride... was hilarious.
The icing on the cake- the queue was only 5 minutes long.
When called out on it, the teenagers were so embarrassed... :)
I wanna add in to the dehydration point. The more dehydrated are, the weaker your body becomes to g-forces as well. So your chances of greying/blacking out increase when you dehydrated.
There was one thing that happened to me and it felt just as satisfying as the karma to the line cutters part would.
I was waiting in line with friends to go on a rollercoaster (Python at Efteling, to be precise). There was someone smoking in the queue line. That is prohibited. I also have asthma, so it’s extra annoying for me. Suddenly we heard an employee announce on a speaker that someone was smoking and that he should stop immediately. And so he did. Gone was the cigarette.
I have a story with the stupid "staple" restraints! I went to Hershey Park for my anniversary and went to go on the laugh track- which i've RIDDEN before and I remembered how hard the ride op pushed to get the restraint secure- it was uncomfortable (and they had to spend extra time on me) but w/e. Well, THIS time however I got in and they pushed and pushed till all my organs were nice and squished and then were like "actually, we cant get this secured enough, get off. Sorry". Yup! I waited in the whole line only be determined "too big" to ride (im not like.. huge. I fit comfortably in an average airplane seat, for example). Unfortunatly this was also late in the day and that was the only rollercoaster we had time to queue for. Though I have to admit it was certainly one of the funniest amusement park experiences i've had, it still blows my mind.
If you’re over 6’5” you’re probably too big
Don't parks have test seats at the que entry with lights to tell you if the restraint will secure? Cedar point, and Kings Island do. Now, I'm NOT saying this is you, but a couple weeks ago I was at cedar point. Went to ride Gemini, and this lady says to the ride ops "there's something wrong with the seat belt. I can't get it to buckle." No. She couldn't get it to fit around her lard. She then started arguing with the ops that "I'm NOT that big". They finally coaxed her off the ride, I promise you... this chick was about 4'11", and 280lbs. Yes..... Yes, you ARE that big lady. Again, I'm not saying that you're 400lbs or something, but when you said you're not that big, that brought that memory up. At least you didn't argue with the ride ops that you're not too big. Here's a bit of advice, some ride manufacturers build in seats with more spacious restraints in the middle of the trains. Sometimes they're marked, like Gatekeeper at cedar point. There's marked rows on the platform stating these rows are for larger guests. You may want to try riding in the middle of the train.

Thing is, that some of the fattys try to argue with ride ops that they're "not that big" but when they stand up finally, you see that they're about 5'2", and 300 lbs. It slows dispatch times down, and gives ride ops, and riders a headache. I'll be honest here, I have seen a huge increase of severely overweight people trying to ride rides they have no business getting in line for. If you're wider than you are tall, why would you waste the money to go to the park, and get rejected by nearly every ride?
I hope this gives you motivation to lose weight. It's so embarrassing to have to be kicked off a ride for your size.

Great video!! Here’s another one: Don’t take pictures of the on-ride photo displays. It’s taken with very expensive equipment, so you have to buy it before using it. Taking a photo of it without buying is simply unethical. I’ve stopped two people from doing it in the past.

I'm in California and the line cutting at our parks is ridiculous. You only mentioned you would see it 2-3 times, but if you go to a park here on a somewhat crowded day you will constantly see rude people cutting in lines with no enforcement from park staff. I don't remember it being so bad pre-pandemic, but it's unbearable now. Also, the phones out on rides is my biggest pet peeve besides the line cutting. If someone has their phone out, I can't enjoy the ride because I keep thinking their phone is going to fly out of their hand and hit me or someone else on the ride. Can't people just take a 2-3 minute break from their phone and fully be present and enjoy the ride experience?
one of the worst line cuttings ive had was one for a flatride, a few kids from school that never talked to me at school saw me and was super friendly torwards me and cut in the line right in front of me and ended up getting on the last ride cycle and i ended up waiting another line cycle , way to be a good human being!
Good list, Peter. Those are all important things we should avoid at theme parks. Although I’d like to ride Wilderness Run at Cedar Point, I don’t believe it’s right to go up to someone if you can ride with a stranger.

i used to work at Disney World and Splash Mountain was my favorite spot to work at. i didnt work on the ride itself but i've heard plenty of stories of people getting off the ride because they didnt want to go down the drop. but why would they want to get off the best disney ride of all time? if i got on i'd never want to leave. its just too much fun to ride

I’m a special needs child, and I get a “fast pass” in a lot of parks to be able to enter through the exit. One time a group of boys were following me and my friend (we’re both female) and they kept asking if we wanted to date and do dr*gs together. We were ignoring them all the time but they kept following us in each attraction we went in. The park was very empty that day so we just took the normal waiting lines, untill they really started to get on my nerves. We went to a dark ride and instead of walking in the entrance we ran to the exit really fast. The dark ride had a long exit so the boys probably thought it was an entrance because we all ran past the small exit sign. When we arrived at the ride we showed the staff the fast pass and the 2 of us were allowed on the ride. We told them that the group of boys who were standing there awkwardly were following us all the time and asking if we wanted to date and do dr*gs etc. They were sended out of the park. 😃
I will say that my wife and I took our then 2 year old son on the Big Bad Wolf at Busch Gardens, Williamsburg. It was right before closing and the ride operators were too busy chatting with each other, so we snuck him on.
He still holds the family record for the youngest on a roller coaster!

I rode Superman Ultimate Flight at Six Flags Great America and I watched a phone call to the ground and shatter after the pretzel loop. It was kind of terrifying.
I worked as a Rides Operator for Kennywood Park. All I can say is THANK YOU FOR THIS! Do you know how many parents I have delt with where they would try to argue with me about their kid's height? I once had a Karen where she forcefully stretched her kids head to get it to hit the bar and she tried to fight with my supervisor at the time. There is one you did forget. Smoking and Vaping in non-designated areas. I once went to be what they called an "extra" over at the Jack Rabbit we legit went to send the train out and then the person in the booth had to stop the ride because a 16-year-old flat out was vaping. A month later I was in the booth for the Racer and said on the loud speaker that smoking, and vaping are not permitted while in line or on the ride, they didn't listen, they would stare at me and vape and I said something again, and we were kicking them out and the person and her friends refused to leave and tried to start a fight with the attendant to the point I had to call security.
So I will say this I think there should be a part 2.

Another thing that annoys me is people who are too big for the ride and either fail to check the test restraints by the gate or try to get on after failing the test. You won't get on and you'll just delay the ride for everyone else.
That would be interesting if it happened, though they would likely have to trim parts of the video, especially in areas where lines are usually shorter.
I would like to mention here that in my experience observing my larger family members when we go to parks, some rides don't put any test seats out front. So larger guests have to get all the way to the station to check if they fit. I've also noticed sometimes that rides with modified seating have test seats in front that don't feature the modified seat, but just the normal one. So larger guests sometimes take the chance to see if they can fit in one of those at the station instead.
I do agree that the delay is annoying though. But sometimes is can't really be helped.
I’ve always been tall for my age so my parents never had an issue with us being too short. Parents should measure their kids before going to a theme park and let them know which rides they’re too short for beforehand to lessen the disappointment at the park.
Also, I remember I was waiting to get on Maverick and they rolled the car back because someone had their phone out. We had to wait 15 minutes for them to start again 🙄
We regularly measure our young ones before going on a theme park vacation, until we know they are tall enough to ride anything. At this point, we are two weeks away from Disneyland, and my youngest measures an inch and a half taller than the Incredicoaster hight requirement barefoot. When we get there, I'm still making sure with a cast member that she can safely ride. I'm not risking my baby's life for a thrill ride. We know how to ride swap.
Excellent advice. I’ve seen a lot of people cutting lines, messing with restraints and entering restricted areas in my many years of going to amusement parks.
I was yelled at by numerous people for reporting them to park employees or security but I don’t care, I know what I did was right.

I once lost my hat on a kiddie coaster, right afterwards the employee went in to get it with the train in the station, it was only a small oval shaped kiddie coaster that probably went at 15-20mph tops but still, being hit by a train from that will at best give you a broken bone or two and at worst get you in the running for the next Darwin Awards
I have a very funny story that relates to losing items on roller coasters. So Last spring break I was on Afterburn at Carowinds with 3 of my buddies. When we got to the break run, two of my friends were (for some god forsaken reason) playing footsies. Both had tennis shoes on, but one of them funnily enough had theirs slightly untied, and when they lost the game of footsies, they lost their shoe as well😂. I have never laughed so hard at an amusement park in my life, we all had tears of laughter from embarrassment and just the stupidity of it. Hell, the whole train felt our embarrassment too, they were chuckling as well! Needless to say, all we did was go to the ride operator and we just told them about what happened and that it was a silly accident. Although they unfortunately had to send an empty train on a busy day to retrieve it, we did get the shoe back. Yes, it was a dumb and embarrassing accident, but it is not worth risking getting kicked out of an amusement park or even risking your life to go and retrieve it, and it is much better to just suck it up, and wait for an employee to help. And yeah, sure, that ride op seemed pissed about it, and we were all like “good lord if we ride this again all of them will recognize us as those idiots who were playing footsies on the break run💀💀😂”. But the embarrassing and silly moment we had was FAR BETTER than security (or an ambulance) showing up.
Moral of the story: if you drop an item on a coaster, don’t let your pride take over. Suck it up, ask an employee for help, and they will probably retrieve it. Like you said, you will be surprised what a great attitude can get you :)
I really agree with this video. That's why whenever I go to a theme/amusement park with my family (whenever I am on vacation or Autism Special Group), I will always follow the rules and make sure to stay safe while I am riding a ride (example: roller coaster or flat ride). That also applies for taking on phones or stuff animals on rides and roller coasters. Same with height and safety because letting a child to ride bigger rides is super dangerous! And it can get you in trouble with serious consequences if you let a child ride under height. Same with water parks because the phones can be damage while being put in water (unless if it's waterproof). That's what the lockers are here for, so that way you don't have to lose an article while riding on rides such as roller coasters. I hope everyone understands this video and follow the rules while visiting a theme/amusement park.
